Meet Rocky, our resident tripod, who is excited to find his new forever home. This eight-year-old Chihuahua mix is a little guy (18 lbs.) with a big personality. Poor Rocky had a rough time before he was rescued. His former "owner" allowed a tumor on his front paw to grow so large that it made it difficult for Rocky to walk. The owner's car was then towed with Rocky in it, and Rocky had to spend a month at a city shelter, but his owner never came to claim him. Lucky for Rocky, he was a favorite of the shelter's volunteers and came to the attention of a rescue. After being rescued, we were told by the vet that Rocky's tumor was malignant. Since the tumor was inoperable, it was decided that Rocky's best chance of survival was to have his entire left front leg amputated. Rocky also underwent a series of anti-cancer vaccines, and we just got the amazing news that Rocky is now CANCER FREE.!!! And despite his challenges, Rocky's optimistic outlook has never wavered, and he was up on three feet immediately after his surgery, going on walks and playing with his foster brother. Rocky is a curious little man, who loves to stay active, but he's also perfectly happy hanging on the couch watching TV. He's generally good with other small dogs, although he can be a bit selective with large dogs. He'd be better off in a home without cats or young kids.
Rocky walks well on a leash and loves to ride in the car. He's also neutered, micro-chipped, and has had all his shots. He's also not a "yappy" dog and doesn't bark much.
So, if you're looking for a small dog, who is smart and affectionate, Rocky could be the pup for you. Although he's technically a senior dog, he has a lot of life left in him and a lot of love to give.
