Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi! My name is Sparkles and that definitely reflects my personality!  I'm a super sweet 1.5yr old female that loves everyone and everything.  I am a white terrier mix that has gorgeous blues eyes if I don't say so myself.  And don't worry about being too noisy...I'm deaf!  I don't let that slow me down at all, I am doing great learning signs for commands and I have great manners (although I might need some help with reminders in a new home with a new routine).  I learn quickly though and get along with everyone.  I really love playing with other dogs and I don't mind cats at all (my foster home has a really cool one and we are becoming friends).  I am fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped...I did test positive for heartworms but have completed treatment, however there is some continued care I will need to ensure that things are all cleared that will have to be continued in my forever home (continued heartworm preventative and 6 month retesting). My adoption fee is $350 To adopt Sparkles, fill out an application at www.kakf.org/formsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 7, 2026, 10:58 am

Story
Mozzarella is a happy-go-lucky boy who's always ready to make the most of life. Full of personality, playfulness, and charm, he's the kind of dog who brings a smile wherever he goes. True to his cheesy name, Mozzarella is a big fan of food, especially spray cheese. If snacks are involved, you can count on him to be first in line! His love of treats makes him very food motivated and eager to learn, which is a great combination for continued training. Mozzarella loves spending time outdoors and is always ready for a game with his beloved tennis balls. Whether he's chasing after a ball, exploring the yard, or enjoying a walk, he's happiest when he's active and having fun. He walks fairly well on a leash but would benefit from a little structure and consistency to help him become the best walking companion he can be. One of the best things about Mozzarella is his balance of energy and relaxation. He's playful and adventurous when it's time for fun, but he also knows how to slow down and enjoy some downtime with his people. If you're looking for a dog who's equal parts fun-loving goofball, adventure buddy, and couch companion, Mozzarella might just be the perfect addition to your family.

Story
Rory has already left her mark on just about everyone involved in the day-to-day at LCHS. Dogs like her are the reason people get into animal welfare in the first place. Unfortunately, her looks and breed stigma haven’t done her any favors. Rory is a dog who needs the right environment, routine, and people around her to truly thrive. And honestly, she’s not alone in that. Plenty of dogs, even little Chihuahuas, can have similar needs after getting an unfair start in life. Rory may never be the kind of dog who happily tags along to a busy Saturday morning farmer’s market soaking up attention from strangers. But with the people she trusts? She's affectionate, playful, obedient, gentle, sweet, smart… the list really does go on. Some shelter dogs meet their forever family and head home the same day. Rory probably won’t have that kind of story either. She needs time and multiple interactions to feel safe around new people, which is why she’d do best with an experienced dog person and a quieter home. She’s learning that new people aren’t scary, but that’s hard work, especially in a shelter environment where there’s constant noise and stimulation. Rory’s absolute favorite thing in the world is playing fetch with her squeaky ball. Stuffed toys and giving kisses to her people are a close second. Once she’s out of her kennel, she’s immediately curious about everything around her. She still flinches when grass brushes her nose, and she’s never met a treat she wouldn’t gladly sit for. Somehow, through almost two years at LCHS, she’s stayed potty trained the entire time. Sometimes people expect shelter dogs to come perfectly put together, when really a lot of them are works in progress. Rory is no different. She’s 3½ years old, but she’s experienced less of the world than most 3½ month old puppies. Dogs like Rory are also why volunteers do what they do. The bond she’s offered me and so many others is absolutely the kind of bond worth adopting. It takes patience and time, but once she lets you in, it’s a friendship that leaves a mark. (Signed, A Volunteer Who Fell in Love With This Dog)

Story
Indy is in the house! Or kennel that is, and it is breaking his heart. He is a 3-4 yr old owner surrender whose time was up at a kill shelter. We fell in love with his heartfelt eyes that look into your soul. He is dog friendly, ignores the cats and is just too sweet. He doesn't deserve to live in fear. He deserves a home again. He trembles with fear when it storms. He is very afraid of fireworks, so we are coming in to sit with him over the fourth is he can't find a family to comfort him. Can someone welcome him home for and give his own Independence Day? !
