Story
To help us make a great fit for you, and any of our dogs as well, please include information about yourself(Home, family, yard/fence, work hours, other pets...) and/or use our application at sparrowdogs.com. COURTESY POST---This handsome boy is NOT with our rescue, he is with his family right now and we are helping them to find a wonderful home for Cooper. You can look at his pictures and see that Cooper is a very much loved family member. He has had a wonderful life with his people, and his other dog pal. And he really is an awesome guy, full of life and exuberance. But, that occasional over the top personality is a little too much for a family that just welcomed a newborn. So, no judgement there, they are just trying to make the best decisions for their baby as well as Cooper. Cooper is a 5 year old Pitbull mix. The family had initially adopted him a few years ago from a rescue, he had been left tied to a tree at some point in his life and was also heartworm positive. He has been treated for the heartworms and he is a healthy, robust and fully vetted boy. Cooper has lived with his other dog buddy and does well. Occasionally they play a little too rough(of course!) when they get a bit excited. He also lives with a cat that he wants to play with, however, the cat is not that interested in playing with Cooper, lol. Cooper's family says that he can be a little bit of an energy overload at times, he gets so exited meeting new people and dogs, gets excited about being outside and will jump on people and even has a big waggy tail that can hurt a little bit on the receiving end, lol. He is on some calming meds at this point, but perhaps could wean off of them in a small child free and also an active home to burn off some of that energy. Cooper's family has been working with a trainer and he is doing well. HE knows, sit, lay, shake and is doing well with place training on a mat, as well as a slip lead for a calming control device. When Cooper is not enjoying all the excitement of his life he is also a very laid back guy. If you are relaxing, well, he is right there with you. Cooper is a professional snuggler and loves to be by your side, keeping your feet warm in bed, or cozied up for some Netflix! Cooper will most likely do better in a rural situation where he does not have as many distractions such as other dogs, people cars and such to get him overly excited. Cooper is an extra special guy that deserves all the best. His family is hoping to find an active, loving home, older kids would be best. He lives with another male dog now, but really does well with older female dogs. If you have an awesome home for an awesome dog, please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.

Story
UPDATE! Forge aka "Forged in Fire" is NOW AVAILABLE! We are searching for just the right home for this sweet boy who has been through so much. He is now out of his leg bandage and while he is still on antibiotics, and has topical medications on the leg, he is healed enough to go home. He has also started treatment for lyme disease that we found out he contracted at some point before receiving him and he is doing great. Forge has been neutered and has gained 10 lbs since his arrival (he is currently 45 lbs) but needs to gain more in a home environment. His adoption fee is $150, and includes all of his treatment to date, heartworm and tick borne testing and bloodwork, neuter, and microchip, as well as vaccinations. He is heartworm negative. Please note that Forge is not yet back at the shelter but we are beginning to take applications for his forever home. They can be submitted via email at animalcontrol@Kendallcountyil.gov, and can be found at the following link: https://www.kendallcountyil.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/26/638605331546270000 Please call 630-553-9256 if you have any questions! For those who do not know Forge's story, he was found abandoned with a blanket on the side of the road on Route 126 in Yorkville. He was emaciated, only weighing 35 lbs with a necrotic, sloughing leg wound from what appears to be old dog bite wounds. It was covered in a bandage. Forge has been with our veterinary partner hospital since April 10th and is doing much better. We were able to save his leg and begin treatment for lyme disease and get him on the road to recovery. Forge was a case of egregious cruelty and neglect, but has persevered and deserves the best from here on out!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Odin is just the sweetest male pitty.  He is currently around 50lbs at 4 months old and he is quite tall so he will probably be a big guy.  He loves to play with the other dogs in his home and is great with kids as well.  He hasn't met a cat though so we aren't sure how he will react yet.  He is learning basic commands but as a puppy will still need some work and will need to learn the rules of your home.  He is crate trained, does well on car rides and loves to play with toys.  He is fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $500 To adopt Odin, fill out an application at www.kakf.org/formsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2025, 10:21 pm
