Story
JJ has lived through more in his few years than most dogs ever will. He came to us after being seized from a hoarding situation as part of a legal case involving dozens of animals. Despite the neglect he endured early in life, JJ is a gentle soul with so much love to give! He’s a resilient guy—calm, observant, and endlessly patient. JJ enjoys soft beds, quiet corners, and gentle attention. He thrives in a peaceful home where he can feel safe and secure. JJ does have a few special needs. He experiences seizures of unknown origin, which are currently being managed under veterinary supervision. He also has luxating patellas in both back legs, a condition that can make extended activity challenging. Because of this, JJ isn`t a hiking buddy—but he is the perfect couch companion, cozy shadow, and hangout kind of guy! He’s incredibly friendly with all humans—whether you`re someone he just met or a familiar face, JJ is all about making gentle connections and soaking up affection.Even more heartwarming? JJ gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He enjoys their company and would be thrilled to have a canine companion in his new home. His calm demeanor and easygoing personality help him fit in with just about any pack.Apply to adopt JJ today and give this brave boy the forever home he’s always deserved.

Story
Neoma is a wonderful eight month old Pitbull/GSD/ Malinois/Husky mix with a huge amount of energy. Shes extremely sweet, and well socialized, but she does tend to bark at those passing by. Not out of fear or protectiveness, simply because she is so incredibly excited to see them and wants to say hi! She is isanely smart, and had been training to be a service dog, but her high energy and mouthy tendencies (not biting hard, just gnawing on things) just arent things I can deal with as someone with a chronic pain condition. She knows her basic training and loves learning. She would love to have some sort of job, whether its herding, agility, dock diving, flyball, or whatever else you can think of, shed love to learn. Again, shes extremely smart, but can be rather stubborn when she wants to be. Her high energy and stubborness are the reasons I am very steadfast on the fact that she needs to have an owner with experience training highly active dogs, especially other Malinois.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Rosalee, we’ll keep this short and sweet…just like her! Rosalee is around 11 years old, she is fabulous with all people and doesn’t seem too interested in cats. She’s most interested in YOU! She heard you can give her belly rubs and treats, and those are two of her favorite things!    We aren’t sure what breed Rosalee is, your guess is as good as ours! She is spayed and current on all of her vaccines, she’s also short and stout but loves a good (short) walk! Looking for a calm senior dog? Sorry, this isn’t your girl! Looking for a dog that people will never believe how old she is when you tell them because of youthful she is? THIS is your girl! Rosalee is a total attention hog, so although she can be dog friendly, she isn't polite about sharing love and attention time. Rosalee’s adoption fee is $250 and includes her spay, microchip, current vaccines and preventatives. Rosalee is seeking an indoor only home, if you are interested please submit an adoption application through our website! Our adoption process includes a vet history check and a home visit. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 28, 2025, 3:41 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hello, I’m Jax. I am 2 years old and I’m one of a kind! I had a hard start to life after another dog attacked me when I was just a baby. I am all healed up now after the amazing care I received from my foster family. You can only tell it happened when I close my jaw fast; I sound like a guppy when my teeth close together. It’s super cute, some might even believe I belong in the water. Lately I spend most of my day pretending to be a turtle stuck on my back. Turtle, dog, guppy. I’m still not sure which I am to be honest.  I am very smart, some may call me an educated man. I have taken many classes and I passed them all. Plus, I am still learning every day! All those classes have taught me to be a distinguished gentleman. Everyone swoons when I stretch with my arms crossed. I even lounge on the couch with my arms crossed. I can’t help myself, I am just fancy.  If I could describe a perfect home for me, it would definitely include a brother or sister canine to spend my days with. I have lived with small dogs but I get bored and would rather wrestle with someone my size. My current foster brother is my size and we love playing together. The only thing I love more than  playing with him, is going outside! In fact, “outside” is my favorite word. If it were up to me, I would play outside for hours as long as you sit out there with me. If you go inside, I may try to make my way inside too. I like following my friends so we can hang out. I like older kids that I can lay with, babies are too small to cuddle with, so no thank you.  Now let’s talk about amenities. I am a pool boy through and through. I love jumping in the pool and getting my exercise. A little doggie pool is perfect but I’m interested in bigger pools too. Oh, and if we are being picky, I would love a fenced in yard to chase bunnies and squirrels. I love staring out the fence in wait of my next chase.  When I come inside, I’m ready to nap. I love a nice soft dog bed, but if I’m too warm, the cold hardwood floor is my preference. After a quick nap or three, I’ll let you know when I’m ready to play. A few barks usually does the trick. I only talk when I want something but it is few and far between. I thrive on routine, so if I know what to expect, I’m a pretty quiet guy.  After a long day, I go right into my kennel for a good night’s sleep. After 7-8 hours I might whimper a little asking for you to let me out so I can start my day, but you have to be right next to me to hear it. In the morning, I wait for those magic words: “Are you hungry?” Sometimes it takes me a minute to eat my food because I like to hide it for later. The more secure I feel with you, the less I do that, so after a while I might just stop hiding it entirely.  Since I’m still young, I have too much energy to be kenneled all day. I would do great at day care, but I mostly love being at home with some supervision. I don’t need a close eye, just someone to make sure I don’t eat Kleenex out of the garbage. I will not eat your furniture, but I do love snacking on paper towels. When I get to play outside often, I behave myself, but 8 hours of no exercise breaks would just be too long. A guy has got to play!  I love going for a car ride. There is nothing better than the wind in my jowls. If you look in the mirror, you will see nothing but smiles in the back seat.  I can come across as shy when you first meet me, but once I know I can trust you, we will be best friends. You will know you are special to me when I come lean on your leg asking for a scratch, or sit on your lap just to get a hug. It doesn’t take much for me to trust, just a little patience and daily routine is all I ask.  Like I said, I know I am a one of a kind gem, but I’m looking for a one of a kind home. If you want to meet up and see if we are a good fit, reach out! I can’t wait to fall in love.    Jax’s adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccines, monthly preventatives and a free training course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha. If you would like to meet Jax, please submit an adoption application through our website, Adopthope.org. Last Hope requires that adopters have a history of having kept their animals as indoor pets only, kept altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 6:20 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.DJ is such a happy dude! He had a tough start, he was brought into rescue heartworm positive so has just recently finished treatment to get him healthy. That treatment includes 12 weeks of strict kennel rest so this young guy is all ready to get out and stretch his legs and have some fun as your new adventure buddy! DJ rides great in a car, he makes friends with every single person he meets and while he has good young dog energy, he also calms down very quickly when it’s time to relax! DJ can be dog selective so might be best suited as the only animal in your home, he is not a match with cats. DJ is very people friendly and we think he’s be great with kids, he’s best paired with elementary aged or older. With DJ’s history of having heartworm as a young dog, it’s important that his owner understand the importance of providing year round heartworm preventatives and routine vet care!    DJ’s adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives plus a free basic obedience course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha. Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only and be kept current on vaccinations and preventatives. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi, my name is Kaia, and I came all the way from California.  While the west coast has all the sunshine,  I wanted to see how the mid-west farmers daughters lived.  All the dog volunteers at Last Hope say I am the sweetest little girl, I love to snuggle, and give tons of kisses.  I love to ride in the car and go for walks and I am super good at both! I am a very strong girl and need someone equally as strong.  I am a princess and love all the attention so I will need to be the only pet in the house.  I also need a home that has a privacy fence in case the neighbors have pets.  So if you always wished they all could be  California girls and wanted one of your own, then I am your girl.....  Kaia’s adoption fee is $250 and includes her spay, micro chip and current vaccinations. Last Hope requires that all of our animals be kept on year round heart worm preventative and as indoor dogs only. Our adoption process includes a background check, personal and vet reference checks as well as a home visit. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 6:20 pm
