Story
MEET PONGO! Pongo is a loveable pup who is house trained and great with humans and dogs. He still has a lot of puppy energy and needs an adopter who is game to train a 60 pound puppy and expose him to new experiences in a safe way to keep building his confidence. You`ll get rewarded with so much love and unlimited scratches of his velvety-soft ears. I`d recommend a larger kid or adult only household as he still has puppy energy. He has shown excessive interest in neighborhood cats, so he likely would be best in a home without them. He has been great with all dogs and even listens to the grumpy small ones without reacting! Come meet Pongo at our Brewster location!Pongo is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been neutered, microchipped and seen by our vet team. For more information on Pongo or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY. However, we will be unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements.

MEET RIA!Ria (pronounced Rye-ah) is a bundle of brindle sunshine who has proven to be a favorite among our staff for her radiant personality and entertaining play style. Ria is a pro at entertaining herself with her toys, and it is so fun to watch her keep herself busy chasing her jolly ball in the yard. The staff also love using Ria as a helper dog when testing the socialibilty of incoming shelter dogs, or helping puppies learn how to play appropriately. Since she is out of the `puppy` phase she is cool being left alone and is already house-trained. She would do well in an active home with savvy owners who are comfortable with exuberant large dogs, and while its not required she would do great with another social and active dog pending appropriate introductions. If you are looking for a fun-loving adventure pup or a playful companion for your resident dog, come meet her at the Brewster Shelter!Check out her videos!Ria is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been spayed, microchipped and seen by our vet team. For more information on Ria or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. Story
Isla (formerly known as "Snow") is a 3 y.o., female, gorgeous Albino deaf Pitbull Terrier looking for a forever home. She's very energetic, loves people and the outdoors. She loves toys, chasing leaves, shadows and anything that moves, cuddling, treats, and belly rubs. Isla needs a patient owner that understands her need to be the only pet in the home with no small children. While she is not aggressive toward humans, if scared, she will hide in her crate and can be reactive if someone tries to reach inside of the crate to force her out. Because she is deaf, she can become overstimulated and need to use her crate as her safe space and will go there on her own when needed. Isla is crate trained and will happily sleep either in bed with her humans (warning - she is a bed hog and she wants her head on your pillow!) or in her crate (covered by a blanket). Isla is trained to respond to the vibration on her e-collar to "come" and is working on the "stay" command using hand signals. She knows how to sit and lay and the "no" command (again, hand signs). She is not a destructive dog and will not chew on furniture, etc. While she loves to play with other dogs, she does resource guard and does not pick up on social cues, which frustrates other animals and makes them anxious, and has resulted in physical aggression from other dogs toward Isla and vice versa that is significant and creates an unsafe environment for her and other animals. She is fully potty trained. She has not yet mastered walking nicely on a leash, though she has had a few lessons with a trainer, she does tend to pull due to her high energy nature and visual distractibility. Isla is a love - if you enjoy a funny, playful pup that loves to snuggle and are looking to devote all of your love to one pet - she will be that dog that is by your side 24/7! Thank you for choosing rescue. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US BY EMAIL OR PHONE TO TELL US YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ISLA. We are all volunteers and we cannot move forward without your application. If you would like to be considered to adopt her go to our website and fill out an application. www.sunnypawsrescue.org. Be sure you receive a confirmation email after submission and someone will be in touch promptly.

Story
Roscoe is a sweet and cuddly boy looking for his forever home. He is a social butterfly and will want to hang out with all dogs he meets. When he arrives to a new home, he will need a few hours to decompress but after that, he will quickly show his outgoing personality. In his videos, you can see that he likes to play with other pups in a balanced well and he respects other dogs' boundaries. He especially loves to hang out with females but. Inside the house, he tends to act calm and likes to sleep with his foster parents whenever he is allowed to. Just like every furry child, he is scared of thunder but will feel safe if he is accompanied by his dog friends and his humans. We don't know how he behaves with kittens but he can be cat-tested if requested. Roscoe is crate, potty and leash-trained. Rescue story: Roscoe was found roaming around in an isolated area on the outskirts of East Houston. His foster mom spotted him and opened the door of her car for him. Roscoe was quick to jump inside and this is how he finally became a house dog again. On his first veterinary visit, the doctor identified a hip fracture, possibly caused by a car. After going over his x-rays, the veterinarian said that the fracture didn't need repair surgery since it was "self-healing." After a couple of months in foster, he started walking better (when he arrived, his hip was a little wobbly) and now, he walks and runs without any issues.  This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process). To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com. PLEASE READ:  •    If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Story
This low riding, land manatee is someone's dream come true.  Nova is a chonky potato shaped sweetheart who is settling into foster like she's been there forever.   She walks well on leash, knows to potty outside, and takes treats with a very gentle mouth.   Does she have the grace of a drunk hippopotamus ?  Sure does.  Does she keep her dining area neat and tidy?  Not a chance.  Is she quiet when she sleeps?  If a lumberjack sawing wood is quiet, then yes.  Does she love to cuddle?  A million times, yes!!   If you've been searching for a roommate who snores, snorts and snuggles like a champ, and who has a ground clearance of a few inches, Nova could be your girl. Her Velcro score is 10/10 - she's your loaf-of-bread-shaped shadow. She wants to be where her humans are.  Nova is easygoing & respectful with other dogs, but she doesn't ever feel like she needs to get into the fray of play. She's content to watch the shananigans, but she wants plausible deniability. Nova would do well in a household with another chill & lowkey dog friend, but she would also love to be the only apple of your eye, the only potato on your lap, the singular focus of all your pats and belly rubs.Got chew toys? She is 100% here for that! Giving out treats? She's always ready to receive! Love to run or hike for miles? That is NOT her scene. However, if short but interesting walkies are your jam, Nova wants to go with you!Her short legs and squatty-body were made for looks and love, not for grace and coordination - so while she's gentle as a lamb, she's not a great match for small kids - she might bowl them over from happiness. She is perfect for kids big enough to prep for the impact of her adoration. Nova has lived well with dog savvy cats.  This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. Story
Jugo is a happy, easygoing pup who’s both house- and crate-trained. Calm and relaxed in the house, he loves to explore his surroundings and settle in close to his people for some cuddle time. He gets along wonderfully with dogs of all ages and sizes and enjoys roughhousing and playing with his foster siblings. Jugo is playful and full of energy—fetch is one of his absolute favorite games—but he also knows how to unwind and be a gentle companion. He loves toys, socializing, and being part of the action, making him a great fit for an active home, especially one with another dog to keep him company. Friendly, sweet, and affectionate, Jugo would thrive in just about any loving home. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered.
