Story
Jaya is an amazing survivor. He was likely hit by a car. Then, found hiding in the bushes of a drive thru, people took a picture and posted it to social media instead of stopping to help. It took hours for a rescuer to find him and save him.Once he was safe, he was taken to the shelter for care and treatment. X-rays showed a broken leg and pelvis. Due to the grave extent of his injuries, he had only 48 hours to be pulled from the shelter of he would be euthanized. Boxers and Buddies pulled out all the stops: We found transport to a local airport, a pilot that would volunteer to fly him to Truckee, another volunteer that would drive to Truckee to bring him to Reno, yet ANOTHER volunteer that would foster him and get him to Animal Emergency Center to be seen and evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon.Within 5 days of being found, Jaya was the recipient of a $6,000 surgery that would help him once again be able to walk. Jaya has the most wonderful temperament. He is a calm, but affectionate puppy. His little puppy heart wants nothing more than to be a normal puppy. He is doing so well after his surgery. He is getting stronger every day, increasing his range of motion, and is learning how to navigate the world pain-free.He has been wonderful in every situation that he has been in. He wants to be BFFs with every person and everything he meets. He has best friend doggy friends, best friend kid friends, and best friend adult friends. I have yet to see him meet someone where he is not there instant BFF. He would be BFFs with a lamp if he could! Any of Jaya’s follow up treatments and physical therapy will be covered by the rescue. He would love to find a home of his own where he can recover and grow. As he ages, he may have arthritis and a limp, but the surgeon doesn’t expect any further complications. If you are interested in adding this sweet boy to your family, fill out an adoption application today! We require professional obedience training from a certified trainer for ALL adoptions. You will see first hand how playful this beautiful boy is. He is not a ball fetcher but is a fan of fetching and retrieving toys to then play tug with you. He will drop them only for a treat! After a good romp in the yard he is a good walker who listens well and likes to please. Andy Reid plays hard and crashes hard! Hey there! Are you looking for a great dog? Well, isn't that a coincidence because I am a great dog looking for my person. My name is Max and I am a sweet guy who would love a home of my very own with a comfy bed and some cool toys. I was abandoned so it takes me a little time to warm up to people - I'm scared I'll be left behind again or that you might not like me. It would be so nice to find a patient, loving person or family to help me learn how to be the best boy ever. When you meet me you I hope you will immediately feel the connection...and we can go shopping for treats and toys! Be sure and check out my video and see my stellar walking skills!

His expressive eyes and wagging tail tell the story of a pup eager to connect and create a bond that lasts a lifetime. Once he knows you're a friend, he'll be your most devoted companion, offering endless cuddles and tail-wagging joy. However, Mercury's celestial charm is unique, and he requires a home where he can shine as the solo star. He has shown aggression towards other animals, so a pet-free environment is essential for his happiness and well-being. Mercury thrives when he can be the center of attention, basking in the love and companionship of his human family. Mercury's ideal home is one filled with understanding and a commitment to his need for exclusive affection. A secure and calm environment will allow him to blossom into the affectionate and loyal companion he longs to be. Story
Nina is a high energy, fun loving girl who is always ready to play! She loves to engage other dogs in play and would fit best with other high energy, playful dogs that are as big as or bigger than her. Nina enjoys tug of war, wrestling and running with her foster dog sister. She often brings a toy to get the party started! She plays fetch quite well and this game is a great exercise outlet. Nina is very athletic and agile! She loves exploring, bounding and chasing. This beautiful girl is still a puppy at heart and would love a home with lots of appropriate chew bones and toys. When it is time to relax Nina enjoys cuddling and lap naps on the couch with her humans! She loves fuzzy blankets too. Nina learns quickly and knows many basic commands including Sit, Stay, Wait, Down, Come, Leave it, Off, Drop it, Go potty and House. She is smart, curious and sensitive. It takes her time to get used to new people and situations so she will need someone who is patient and willing to teach her about new things. She is highly food/treat motivated and responds to positive praise and lots of attention. She is crate trained for nights and when her foster family is away, though she prefers to be with her people. She does not have much experience on leash but is very trainable. Nina has adapted well to the foster household routine. She is used to having someone home most of the day and enjoys romps in a large, fenced property throughout the day. If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org or call 775-846-3773.April 22, 2024, 11:27 am

Story
Zora is a spunky young female boxer. She came into rescue from a local shelter, and before that she lived her entire life in a fenced yard with her littermate.Zora is very playful and exuberant, and loves all kinds of toys. But the thing she loves most is being petted and snuggling with her dog brothers and foster humans. She is completely housetrained, rides perfectly in the car, and walks well on leash with no pulling (see below for exceptions). Zora is working on her house manners and crate training but is extremely bright and learns quickly.Because she wasn't exposed to other dogs and new people, she is reactive to both. However, she can be redirected using treats and responds well to praise. Zora would do best with a well-adjusted/socialized male dog. She loves rough housing with the foster family's 80lb American Bully mix, and is fine with their older male Pug (Zora is somewhat more interested in playing with him than he is in playing with her [🙂] ).The foster family doesn't have any cats or smaller pets, but Zora has shown some prey drive when on hikes. This indicated that she may not be ok with smaller pets, birds, or cats. Dog-savvy, respectful children should not be an issue.Boxer experience (specifically female/puppy) highly recommended. Well-adjusted/socialized male dog of similar size required. Zora will require obedience/behavior training to address her reactivity as specified in the adoption contract. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Zora, please fill out an adoption application! We require professional obedience training from a certified trainer for ALL adoptions. Story
Betty is a complete mess! But she is so special and personable, she is the most beautiful soul - inside as well as out.Betty was scheduled for euthanasia. For no reason other than a skin condition. She was missing 90% of her fur, itchy, covered in wounds and scabs. She is looking and doing better, she is on a hypoallergenic food and sees a doggie dermatologist to see if there is anything else we should or could be doing for her. She loves cuddles and bum scratches and is looking forward to having her own fur back so she no longer has to wear sweaters and coats! We still have a bit to go, but we are enthusiastic that Betty will make a full recovery and a wonderful companion! We require professional obedience training from a certified trainer for ALL adoptions.
