Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet COWBOY We pulled Cowboy from the shelter last Tuesday and he’s already settling into foster life like a total pro. This sweet baby is just 9 months old, an excellent listener and mastered potty training in just a few short days. Cowboy is super cuddly, incredibly affectionate and happiest when he’s right by his foster mom’s side. Simply put—this boy just wants to be loved and give love in return. His confidence is growing every day and we think he’d thrive in a home with another dog to show him the ropes, not to mention he genuinely enjoys spending time with his foster sis and bro. Next Thursday, Cowboy will be neutered and officially cleared for adoption. Who’s going to be the lucky family to welcome this love bug into their home? Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 26, 2026, 5:30 pm

Story
Dog Name: Passion Fruit Breed: Bulldog mix Sex: Female Age: 6 (estimated) Weight: 35-40 lbs Medical Needs: Received heartworm treatment recently. Will need HW test mid July to confirm successful treatment. Housebroken: No. She definitely does better on the days when her foster mom is home. For this reason, she is going to need someone who is not gone from home more than 4 hrs at a time or who can make arrangements for mid-day potty breaks. Crate trained: No. She came from a situation where she was made to live in unsanitary conditions so its all she has ever known. She currently uses a crate with a grate floor for easier cleanup. I line the pan below with puppy pads so cleanup is not so labor intensive. Behavior wise, shes very content in the crate. Good in the car: Yes, she enjoys going for rides. Good on a leash: She does pull but at her size she isn’t hard to handle. Energy level: medium Need a fenced in yard: No. Even if you have a fenced in yard, she will still require you to go out with her, otherwise, she will just stand at the door and not go potty. Or maybe you’ll get lucky and she’ll poop on the door mat. Dog Friendly: No If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Nope, she wants to have you all to herself. Cat Friendly? Unknown Kid Friendly: I would not place her in a home with kids younger than teens. She is very mouthy and can get rough when playing. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Teens or older. Are you on the hunt for a furry sidekick to drag to breweries, dog parks, and Petsmart (because let's be real, what's better than a dog in Petsmart?)? Do you have a house party every weekend and need a dog that can keep up? Got kids zooming around like tiny tornados? If you said yes to any of these, save yourself the drama and don't bother finishing this. Passion Fruit is not your gal, folks. This little bulldog bundle of energy is half sugar, half rough-around-the-edges spice. Initially, she's all about personal space, but once you're in, she's your typical sometimes cuddly bulldog. When she first landed in her foster home, would she have taken a chunk out of me during those first few days if I hadn't let her set the boundaries? Probably. Does she nibble on me now? Only when she's playing too rough... which is often. I've got a bad case of cuteness-induced aggression around her, and secretly, she eats it up. Don't get her too amped up, or play gets real - and by real, I mean teeth-y. It's not that she's mean; she just gets overzealous. Most times, a simple redirect does the trick. Once she winds down, Passion Fruit transforms into the ultimate cuddle bug, shadowing you everywhere, begging for tough toys to 'destroy' or gnawing on a bone like it's the best thing since sliced bread. So, if you're up for the challenge of winning her heart and surviving the Passion Fruit storm, get that application in. Dog Name: Snatch  Breed: mixed breed    Sex: Male   Age: 2.5 yrs    Weight: 55 pounds    Medical Needs: None   Housebroken: If you take him out when he comes out of his crate and after he eats. He does great.    Crate trained: Yes   Good in the car: yes   Good on a leash: yes , he doesn't pull but he tries to chase the outside kitties to play   Energy level: low to Medium He has spurts of energy then needs to recharge   Dog Friendly: Yes    If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No   Cat Friendly:No   Kid Friendly: yes   If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend ?   10+ and dog-savvy; Snatch doesn’t do well with wrestling or loud commotion and gets overstimulated easily. He will also guard his toys, and thinks all toys are *his* toys   Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them: Special traits:   He loves attention! We are working on manners because he does jump to get your attention. He occasionally gets possessive over toys and will need an owner that understands that bully breeds are stubborn and need an authoritative owner.    That being said, once he knows who’s boss (and it isn’t him…), he’s very lovable and stays close by. If you’re looking for a lovable bundle of joy come meet Snatch (he will snatch your heart)   Fosters Location: Dover, DE   Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file, email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app) ##2510516##

Story
Meet Prada Prada is our young, chocolate terrier mix! She recently came to HAP when her owner was no longer able to take care of her. While it's been a bit of an adjustment for this sweet girl, she's starting to settle in and really show her true personality! Prada loves her toys - that's the most important thing to know about her. Stuffies are the way to her heart and this girl is rarely seen without one in her mouth, even on walks! Another thing to know about Prada is that she thinks she's a lap dog and will lean her entire body weight against you to soak up all the love. When she gets really excited for cuddles, her whole butt goes crazy and wiggles back and forth - it's adorable! Prada hasn't met any other dogs yet as we're still getting to know her but we can always do a dog meet to see how she'd do with a current dog in the home. So if you're looking for an active but fantastic cuddle companion, Prada is the one for you! Prada spent some time in a foster and here's what they had to say: "Prada was a joy to have! It did take her a few days to get into the groove but once she did, boy was she such a pleasure to have! She loved running around and jumping from one couch to the other and onto her bed and scooping up toys on along the way and it was such a hoot to watch. She definitely has some energy but it was manageable and expected for her age. Prada enjoyed spending the night cuddled up between my husband and I in bed and would sleep through the entire night! She's still working on house training but within a few days there was a lot of improvement and I think once she's on a consistent schedule, she'll pick it up pretty quickly. Prada will make an amazing dog for someone who's willing to put a little bit of work in to help with her 'puppy-ness' and I'm confident she'll grow into a really great dog!" If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
This friend has just arrived to us as a stray. When animals are found as strays, our staff will search for an owner. If no one comes to reclaim the pet, we will begin looking for a new home. Unfortunately, we rarely have a background on stray animals. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and update their bio with more information as we learn. They are pending interactions with other animals until they have been cleared by our vet. Please note that we are often unsure of house, crate, car, and leash training status upon arrival. Story
Dog Name: Rasputia Breed: bully mix Sex: female Age: 4-6 yrs Weight: 46lbs Medical Needs: She is on ear drops currently, which she has about 2 more weeks of.  Diagnosed with a low grade heart murmur (grade 2/6). Housebroken: Work in progress . She hasn’t had any accidents out in the house and is taken out on a regular schedule. However, she has also shown she doesn’t mind pooping in her crate even if you’ve recently taken her out. She’s on her own time and sometimes would rather nap than go outside to poop on your schedule. Crate trained: Work in progress. See above about potty accidents. Good in the car: yes Good on a leash: when she walks she is, I think she would rather have a fenced yard and bathe in the sun. Wont walk to far but is doing better with daily walks Energy level: low but does get excited when you start playing with her Need a fenced in yard: that would be what’s best for her Dog Friendly: yes If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? no Cat Friendly? No Kid Friendly: yes loves everyone and the tail doesn’t stop If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? She does jump so I would say maybe 6 because of the dogs weight Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Not crazy about going for a walk yet., she is so good with everyone and loves to be with them, she’s a great and happy girl. ** Rasputia needs a single level home. She is not able to go up and down a lot of stairs. She's been able to figure out the few in her foster home to get out to the back yard, but recently had a meet in a two story home, and the stairs there were too much for her.  So for her safety, we are requiring a one story home for her. ** Fosters Location: Middletown Application can be found here: [https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application](https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application...)
