Why hello there! My name is Gio and I am a very handsome and sweet boy looking for a fresh start. I may be gray, but I am full of boundless energy and love. Having said that, I am looking for an active home that will give me all the exercise and mental stimulation I need to be healthy and happy. I am also looking for an adult only home preferably, as I am very big and strong. I am way too clumsy and rambunctious to be around small children. I really enjoy playing tug with the staff here at the shelter and tearing up squeaky toys, and the occasional blanket. I’m a rebel like that. I prefer to play with the humans, but I have been in a couple play groups. However I am dog selective and I pick my playmates carefully. Slow introductions are best for me. The same goes with people. I just need some time to get to know you before we can be friends. I think that’s a reasonable request. Another important thing about me is that I do not like the rain. When it’s cold and wet outside I much prefer indoor activities like puzzle games or lounging with my people. Otherwise I love going on walks, runs or doing zoomies around a big yard! I am still working on my leash manners, but the staff here has been really helpful and patient with me. For now I am patiently waiting for the right people to come along to take me home and until then I plan to keep being the lovable goofball I am with the loving staff who look after me.

Meet Chewy! One of our many all-star ball players here at the DCSPCA. Chewy lives for fetch and is looking for his own team to support him for the rest of his days. And hopefully a family that will play his favorite game with him! Chewy was originally a family dog and has patiently been waiting for the right people to give him a second chance. He did live with kids, but would prefer an adult only home or at least kids that are at least 13 or older. Due to his history, Chewy is wary of new people and needs to meet potential adopters several times before he will go home with them. He has to know you’re in it for the long haul before he commits. Once you earn his trust though he is one of the most loyal and loving dogs you will ever meet. Chewy has been working with our staff to improve his leash manners, as he gets very excited on walks and is known to be a strong puller. But he has made steady progress and with continued training he will be walking like a gentleman in no time. Chewy is not a dog to turn down treats either. He enjoys learning new things and is a very devoted student. Always striving to be the best he can be. As a dog of high standards, Chewy is looking for an experienced owner who has the time, patience and understanding he needs to grow and help settle him into a new home.
