Story
Gump is classified as semi-feral, meaning his contact with humans is limited but not completely foreign. Gump was incredibly fearful of new people, sounds, and environments when he first arrived at Pets Alive, and his instinct to run away from them always used to win. Thanks to our Kennel Staff and Dog Walking Volunteers' dedication, Gump is armed with more confidence today than we ever thought possible. These days, Gump goes for long strolls in the woods and gives gentle kisses to the friends he knows well. His circle of trust is small, but he gets braver every single week. We'll be honest: Gump isn't the right fit for every household. He's a quiet guy who would do best as the only pet. Gump isn't looking for a large family to fold into and would do best as the only pet in a mellow household as he transitions to the good life! If you have the patience and extra love and are interested in Gump please fill out an application with Pets Alive in Middletown NY to schedule an appointment to come meet him! **Please Note** Our pet listings update automatically every 4 hours, so they are as current as possible. Story
Resident sweetheart and longterm resident Violet recently went for a weeklong sleepover with two of her volunteer besties, Amy and Tim! We learn SO much about the pups in our care when they get into a foster home. Violet has been waiting at our shelter for over three years, and it breaks our hearts. Here's what Violet's foster parents said about her during his first experience in a home... Violet's Vibe: We were totally surprised by what a calm and loving guest Violet was. We expected her to be a ball of untamed energy, based on our time walking her at Pets Alive. She remained her loving self but almost immediately calmed down when we brought her home. Violet loved to shower us with kisses! Exercise: When we instigated play, Violet was the silliest goofball. B when it was time to relax she calmed down super quickly. We took her on a couple short walks a day, and she especially loved wandering around the woods in our backyard. She almost never pulled on the leash, and was very well behaved when we took her into town to meet new people. While she enjoyed outside time, she was also happy to relax all day. Toys: Violet would often bring us a toy to play fetch with when she got excited. She also loved chewing on her Nylabone and rope toys. Potty Training: During the whole week she was with us, Violet never had a single accident in the house. Crate Training: Violet would sometimes choose to rest in her crate during the day. At night, we put her in the crate. Looking back, we wish we had given her a chance to prove that she would be fine without a crate. She was never destructive and gave us nothing to be concerned about. Food + Treats: Violet was pretty good at eating her meals. She showed only occasional interest in treats and very mild curiosity about human food. By the end of the week, we could easily sit next to her on the couch and eat tempting food without her giving it a second thought. Fears: Violet was jumpy about sudden movements and sounds, but we were impressed with how brave she was as she got used to all the things in her new environment. "Violet loved her vacation and wasn't ready to go back to the kennel. She resisted going through the front doors of the shelter and it broke our hearts. She was a wonderful guest. ** Please Note ** Our pet listings update automatically every 4 hours, so they are as current as possible. Story
5 year old Mooses absolute favorite thing to do is cuddle on the couch under a blanket. His second favorite is to lay in the sun. He is medium energy and needs some exercise but not a ton. He is ok on a leash and enjoys going for short walks to sniff everything he can. And he loves to play with his toys - either solo or with someone. He basically likes every toy - hard nylon toys, rubber Kong like toys, rope toys, balls, and squeak toys. He knows basic commands and will do anything for a treat. He hasn't found a treat yet that he doesn't like but his favorites include apples, banana, and cucumbers. He's very smart and a fast learner. Overall he's a sweet silly boy and will be an amazing dog for someone with older kids or no kids. Tino is an outgoing and thick guy. He loves to be pet, given treats and be in the yard with his handlers. He isn't interested in playing much, but a nice bed and bone seems to occupy him. We suggest Tino being the only animal in a home as well with their being no young children. Tino also has to be adopted out to people who are familiar and or have bully breed experience.Tino is UTD on vaccines, neutered and will be microchipped.

Story
Petey is a gigantic goof who does not know he's almost 90 pounds! This handsome hunk is as silly as they come and has plenty of energy for any outdoor activity. But of course, Petey contains multitudes... at home, he's a total couch potato and loves the calm and quiet pace that only a home can provide. Petey loves to play fetch and willingly shares his toys during playtime! He takes treats very softly and enjoys belly rubs. Petey loves every adult he meets when he's out and about but needs to live in an adult-only home! According to Petey, cats make great toys... so for the sake of cats everywhere, we're putting a stop to that, too. To recap: Tons (90 pounds) of fun? CHECK Goof with no idea he's 90 pounds? CHECK Rude around kids? CHECK Kind of a jerk to cats? CHECK Not interested in sharing a home with other dogs? CHECK Missed the puppy school class titled "Sharing Is Caring"? CHECK Great couch warmer?
