Story
I have had Marcy since she was 4 months old. She will be 2 years in June. She is such a sweet girl, but she needs more attention than I can give her. I work full time and cannot give her the attention and energy she needs. I am looking to give her the loving home she deserves, preferably with kids or other dogs to keep her happy: She loves other dogs and people SO much. She has been trained, and is very food motivated. I had her DNA tested for breed information. She also loves cuddles and belly rubs.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Woody has such a big heart! Once he bonds with “his” people, those bonds are extremely strong.... but it does take time. He warms up faster to women than men, but men are a close second; ultimately, he bonds strong with both. Woody will give the family that’s patient and the “right match” much joy and unconditional love. Woody tends to be insecure, and he can be very nervous and anxious in new situations or around new people. We believe this is because when he was a young dog he was bounced from location to location. He came to VA by way of NC. Once in VA he was at two different shelters and with two different rescue organizations before coming to The Furever Project. Our organization is committed to fining this loving, goofy, insecure guy his forever home. Woody’s ideal home is going to have lots of space and must have a fenced yard where he can run and play (no apartment or townhouse living for this guy). Woody would not do well in a home with young children. When he gets excited (and he does get the zoomies) it’s hard for him to put on the brakes quickly and he would easily knock down young children. Woody would benefit greatly from being in a home where daily exercise is priority. He does enjoy going for long walks and/or long runs and he can definitely go the distance! Woody does take daily medication to help with a mix of anxiety and high-energy. Woody will do best in a home with a routine and structure. He’s very observant. When things change up on Woody, it can be hard for him to adjust. You can tell he’s trying to figure out what’s going on when the wrinkles appear in his forehead, and he looks from side-to-side trying to figure out why things are different. Woody is extremely intelligent and a very fast learner. He loves working on trick training which can be a lot of fun. Woody would be a joy, and in some respects a challenge, for anyone who enjoys and is passionate about training! Woody does live with other dogs but he requires slow, controlled introductions. Because of this, Woody is not a candidate for dog parks. Woody plays hard and is vocal (barking) during play, but only during play. Doggie siblings would need to be tolerant of his style of play. Woody has been with us for over two years now and waiting for a home of his own for at least three years or more. We believe there is a home for every dog. Could Woody’s home be with you?  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 19, 2024, 3:33 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.  Chip is still with us, and we can't understand why!  He is handsome, gentle, and well-behaved.  Although he may be particular about his doggy friends and need some support in getting to know new dogs, Chip is a wonderful companion to people.  He has amazing obedience skills and learns new ones quickly.  He has become a volunteer favorite for enrichment and training days, and they can never say enough great things about this boy.  He's also been brought out for extra walks and exposure time with volunteers, and he is reported to be a perfect gentleman every time.   He is the happiest boy, and is most content when he can play a great game of fetch. Indoor or outdoor, he doesn’t care. He loves toys, but also wants to snuggle up on your legs on the couch and relax. He’s very food motivated and will always try to be your assistant chef in the kitchen. He listens very well to his name, come, sit, lay down, and he can give paw. He’s very smart, and overall very chill around other dogs, not paying them too much attention. When he does, it needs to be managed and monitored for appropriate play.  He loves car rides, and would happily be your new adventure buddy, as he’s getting used to new environments and slowly but surely coming out of his shell.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 19, 2024, 8:25 am

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Shiloh’s favorite  activities are going for a walks, being outside and playtime. She is also very affectionate. We cannot wait to help her find her Furever family!    Shiloh is good with other dogs and kids! She has not been cat tested.   She loves ALL treats and chew toys.    Shiloh is working on basic training with her foster family. She is also working on the crate right now and her foster mom says it is going very well!    She is super playful & sweet. She is an energetic girl, so an active family would be good for her.    Shiloh is still learning about life so she can be a bit shy around new people at first, but she warms up quickly. Her ideal adoptive family will have someone who is patient and willing to work with her as well.   If you think Shiloh is the right match for your family, apply to adopt her today! If Shiloh left paw prints on your heart but you aren’t able to adopt her, please share her information on social media and consider donating towards her care while she waits to be adopted.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 19, 2024, 3:33 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Penny’s looks are striking and if that weren’t enough, she has the most adorable head tilt. Some of Penny’s favorite things are being on the receiving end of lots of petting and affection, enjoying the great outdoors while running around in the backyard, going for walks, chewing on her chew bones, and playing with her toys (this girl REALLY loves to play). And, because of Penny’s love for the great outdoors (and because she’s in such great shape) we think she would make a terrific hiking partner. When it comes to training, Penny is the trifecta. She loves treats, she’s intelligent, and she’s eager to please which makes training easy and fun. Since coming to TFP, Penny and her foster mom have worked with a private trainer getting down the basics. Sometimes when Penny sees unfamiliar dogs or people, she may bark until she gets to know them. However, once she warms up, everyone is her friend especially when they shower her with lots of petting (as mentioned, one of Penny’s favorite things). Penny and her foster mom have been working one-on-one with a trainer teaching Penny to look to her foster mom for guidance in situations involving unfamiliar people and/or dogs. Both Penny and her foster mom have done great with this training. As we’ve said, Penny loves to play. There are times when Penny can become a little overzealous playing. Because of this it is probably best if she were in a home with older, dog savvy children and not children who may not be steady on their feet. Penny is crate trained and she has THE best crate manners. She’s polite and easy when asked to crate. Once crated, she’s quiet and quite content. Penny is known to voluntary go into her crate for some chill time and to relax when she wants a break from the hustle and bustle of family life/activity. Penny is completely housebroken. She will let you know when she needs to go outside to go “potty” by either following you around the house or waiting by the door.  If you think Penny sounds like a match for your family, fill out an application to make her a member of yours! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Everyone that meets Nina gets lost in her beautiful, captivating eyes! If her eyes don’t get you, her beautiful coloring will. Nina had a rough start in life. She was dropped at a local shelter after she tested positive for parvo. Unfortunately, while not needed, she was kept in isolation at the shelter for several months. Basically, what this means is Nina’s social skills are running about 4-months behind.  She will need someone who understands her and is patient. Nina has two sides. “Cuddle bug” Nina and “wild child” Nina. Which Nina you get depends on the amount of exercise she’s had. We feel Nina will be most successful in an active home where she will get daily walks, ball playing, or other similar type exercise. We think Nina could excel at agility. Once Nina has had her morning exercise, cuddle bug Nina comes out. In Nina’s foster home she lives with a doggy foster brother and sister. She can be a little nervous meeting new dogs until proper introductions so to help Nina’s comfort level when meeting new dogs, slow introductions are best to ensure success. Nina does love the great outdoors. With patience and training, she could excel participating in high-energy activities such as hiking, backpacking, jogging, bike riding, trick training, and playing frisbee. We think Nina will make an all-around great outdoor companion. If you’re not a high-level energy activity person, walks and ball playing will give Nina what she needs as far as exercise. Nina loves meeting new people and does well in most social situations. She has successfully been around children and has done well with them. However, because Nina is still very young and has “over the top” moments of excitement (before exercising), we do recommend older children who are steady on their feet and not prone to being knocked down by excited doggy behavior. Nina is absolutely awesome in the car. She would make a great co-pilot and travel partner and, temperatures permitting, she would love to keep you company while running errands around town. Of all that is not enough, Nina is completely potty, and crate trained! Nina will not do well with cats.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 19, 2024, 3:33 pm

Story
Cookie came from an overcrowded shelter. Sadly, Cookie’s mother was euthanized in the shelter when she was just 6 weeks old. Her whole litter was not old enough to be away from their mother and tragically they lost her due to overcrowding. We rushed to get the litter out of there so they would not face the same fate as their momma. They are such sweet pups and deserve a better outcome than their mom. Cookie is your typical happy, loving puppy who is still discovering the world around them. We are now accepting applications on this litter. They would be ready to go home for a few more weeks.
