After everything she's endured, she's still learning to trust, which makes her nervous and reactive with new people. But beneath that fear is a dog who wants to believe in kindness. Despite her past, Spazzy is energetic, playful, and very puppy-like. She loves to explore and zoom around &#194&#151 sometimes a bit too enthusiastically, as she's known to be an escape artist. She'll need basic training and a patient, experienced dog owner who understands that healing takes time. Spazzy may be a work in progress, but she is full of heart and hope. Hi... I'm Sadie. I'm about 5 years old, and I'm still learning what safety feels like. Before I came here, I was part of a large seizure case in Shenandoah County. There were about 20 of us dogs kept in a very small space. It was crowded and confusing, and I didn't always feel safe. I think some of the other dogs may have bullied me a little... so I learned to stay quiet, stay small, and hope for kinder days. I'm still a bit nervous, but I'm trying so hard to open up. Underneath my timid heart, I'm sweet &#194&#151 really sweet. I love soft voices, gentle hands, and running in the yard where the world finally feels big enough for me to breathe. I walk nicely on a leash, and I'm doing my best to be brave one step at a time. I'm not sure how I feel about other dogs or cats yet. I'm still figuring that part out. But what I do know is that I'll blossom with someone patient... someone who understands that healing takes time... someone who will let me learn what love feels like at my own pace. Meet Athena. 45lb, 2.5 year old Pittie baby, looking for her forever family. Removed from a neglectful situation, we have been fostering her for several months. Athena is eager to please and knows commands. I have also taught her to sing, when asked. Too cute! Are you a hiker? Well Athena may just be the girl for you. I take her out on the trails and we have done 20+ miles in a single day. Ever aware and always protective of her hiking companion, this girl has the energy and the loyalty to make a great trail dog. Not a hiker? No worries. Athena also loves to chew on antlers, peanut butter kongs, loves squeakers and play fetch. She is also the queen of snuggles. She prefers sleeping and cuddling with her person at night. Can't go wrong with this little girl for a cuddle buddy. We were told she gets along with other dogs. But the four dogs we have now don't get along with her. So, she is kept separate. She would be best with a solo companion or someone with experience with this breed. We do not know how she is with kids. She has all of her shots. We were told that she wasn't fixed, however, we have had her for almost a year and she hasn't gone into heat. This little girl needs a stable and lasting home. We are determined to find her the perfect family, so she never has to go through neglect or abandonment again. We want her to be adored.
