Sayla is a spayed female pit bull mix, about 3 years old and 40 pounds, who came to us as a stray in July of this year. She is housebroken, dog and cat friendly, and full of joyful young-dog energy, but after some exercise, she is just as happy to curl up beside you and relax. We shared her sleepover at a volunteer’s home so people could see what we see, a wonderful dog who is more than ready for a home of her own. Heartbreakingly, only one person has asked to meet her. Sayla was amazing with them and their kids, but it simply wasn’t the right time for her to go home. We have to say the hard part out loud: in the shelter world, Sayla is considered a “less-adoptable dog.” Not because she has done anything wrong, and not because she has less love to give. On paper, and in person, Sayla is incredible. She is smart, attentive, knows her basic commands, rides well in the car, walks beautifully on a leash, and is ready for any adventure. She is happy to meet new people and does wonderfully mingling in public. So why is she still waiting? Sayla is a Pit Bull mix, or at least we think she is. Her breed is still only a guess. She isn’t a puppy, fluffy, doodley, a cool color, or a trendy “designer” breed. And when people walk past her kennel, she can look scared or nervous, even though the moment she comes out, she becomes the happiest, curious girl. Many dogs are completely different when they are stuck in a kennel in a noisy shelter than they are outside of it. That is why we always encourage visitors to ask to spend time with a dog in an adoption room, where their true personality can shine. Sayla has been waiting for someone to look beyond the kennel, beyond the label, and see the loyal, loving best friend standing right in front of them. Meet Ziva, a 5-year-old Pit Bull/Terrier mix who is basically a 56-pound ball of pure love. She would be a great "first dog" since she is past the puppy phase and has a solid foundation of good behaviors! She lives for human attention, loves to cuddle, and has a way of making everyone she meets feel special. If you are looking for a dog who will immediately become your absolute best friend, she is the one. She is incredibly easygoing and fits right into the flow of everyday life. Ziva has a perfect medium energy level, meaning she is always down for a fun walk but equally happy to crash on the couch with you for a movie marathon. She is good with children and great with other dogs. She gets along with both men and women and is pretty quiet. She is currently being fostered with 5 other dogs, so could easily fit into a home with multiple dogs, but would also be fine as a single. She loves stuffed toys and shares with her house mates. She appears to have a low prey drive and has met a couple outdoor cats and was fine, so we *think* she would do fine in a cat household with a proper introduction. Ziva has a very eager to please personality, so should make any additional training a breeze! She is potty trained and will even go to the door to let you know she has to go. She also knows how to use a doggie door. She is great in the car, especially if head scratches are involved! Ziva is just a sweet, loyal soul looking for a family to shower with affection. We do not guarantee the breed of any of our dogs or how big they will be when they are fully grown. The breed listed is typically a guess based off of appearance or personality traits.
