Here, in my humble experience is why: Beautiful: From brownish to bluish to every shade of black in between, black cats are beautiful in the way that one can only imagine onyx would be, if it were covered in fur. Loyal: No matter how many work trips or late nights, I am always greeted at the door. I am meowed to over the phone when away. Black cats are wonderful in being both friendly to all and dedicated to their person/people. Adaptable: While some cats struggle with change, black cats tend to quickly adapt to whatever circumstances they are dealt. Aware: Black cats seem to walk a line- they tend to be more calm and reserved than some other cats, yet they balance that by staying playful and active throughout their lives. They relish new toys, found objects, and are talented at entertaining themselves for hours (and napping for hours thereafter). The types of games they create and the ones they enjoy engaging in often involve others-people, cats, dogs, etc., and tend to be more complex, such as games of fetch and tag. Smart: In a final word, black cats are smart. They are savvy to things going on around them, and highly responsive and capable of handling change, throughout which, they remain calm, loving, energetic companions. Born March 2, 2025, Opal is a spicy girl who’s a little on the shy side. But once she’s had time to settle in, her playful personality shines. She loves chasing the laser and climbing to high places to show off her skills. She’s a bit unsure around new people, but if you crouch down and give her space, she’ll come over for some gentle pets. Meet Analise--your low maintenance queen! Analise was found on the streets back in June, and unfortunately, she came with an old injury to her back right femur. It’s left her with a permanent limp, but she’s not in any pain and still jumps just fine when she feels like it. Her veterinarian feels her leg is stable now, though it’s possible that if things were to flare up down the road, an amputation could be part of her journey. We want to be upfront about this, but also reassure you: cats adapt beautifully to three legs, and many live long, full, joyful lives that way. Meet Archie! He was rescued morning of October after being found alone and scared, covered in dirt and being picked on by feral cats. He had a tight, frayed collar with no ID and no chip. Now safe, Archie has unlocked his signature move to win your heart over-therapeutic hugs! He wraps his arms around your neck and purrs nonstop. Archie is about 6 months old, neutered, vaxxed, dewormed, double negative, and very playful. He’s learning cat social skills and getting the hang of toys. He and Hattie (another young foster cat) have become great companions. They play beautifully together and keep each other entertained.
