Story
Meet Cruiser! Cruiser is an 8-year-old, 72.8-pound APBT mix who found himself at the shelter through no fault of his own. This laid-back gentleman is housetrained, crate trained, and was said to do well with both kids and other dogs in his previous home. Right now, Cruiser is a bit nervous in the shelter environment—it’s a big change for a sweet, mellow guy like him. He allows handling from staff and is slowly starting to settle in. Out in the play yards, he begins to relax and show glimpses of his soft, loving personality. Cruiser may be quiet and unsure right now, but we can already tell there’s a big-hearted dog waiting to shine. He’s looking for a calm, patient home where he can feel safe, loved, and finally show the world who he really is. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@johnsoncounty.in.gov for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt /. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet! Story
Don’t let Rome’s age fool you — this boy has plenty of pep in his step! With tons of spunk and a playful spirit, he’s proof that age is just a number. Rome loves to show off his tricks (his “shake” is a crowd favorite!), enjoys chasing toys, and is always up for a good game of tug. When the games are done, Rome is all about the love. Belly rubs, ear scratches, snuggles — he soaks it all up and gives it right back with the kind of sweet devotion only a seasoned dog can offer. If you’re looking for a best friend who’s equal parts fun and affection, Rome is ready to shake your hand — and your heart. If you are interested in learning more about Rome, please call 812-988-7362 or submit an adoption application at the link below. After the application is received, an adoption counselor can reach out to you directly. https://www.bchumane.org/adoption-application/ October 3, 2025, 1:31 pm

Story
Hello, I will be located at a nearby shelter, if capacity isn’t full. If I’m at a shelter, deadline shouldn’t be a concern anymore. I am a special needs dog, I knock into things because I suddenly became blind. I was accidentally born being inbred. Owners couldn’t afford to fix, until few years later. I enjoy playing with yanking, and pulling toys, I like chewing on bones, I am not trained. I might accidentally nip at your fingers if you’re giving me a treat or food, but only accidentally. I don’t bite. I eat my food fast. Owner is seeking a better, happier, and more cleaner environment for me. I do not jump. Owner cannot afford vet care for me. If shelters are still full, I will be sadly put down at around August or September 2026.

Story
Cannot afford vet visits or vet care for Roxy. Her past history was being abused as a puppy by a past owner who used to be an half-older brother of mine. She might snarl and growl at new people or strangers, but once you feed her, give treats, water often, she will consider you as her new best friend. As long she is used to the kid, she will enjoy them. However, she likes jumping to get attention and love. Behavior issues is that she is just over protective of her food, will not share. Currently needs a new home, cause I think she deserves better, and a better living environment. She is fixed, but has not been updated on her rabies shots. I will be located at a nearby shelter, if capacity isn't full. I love toys, and I also enjoy giving love kisses! Friendly owner is wanting a better, happier, cleaner environment for me as well. I might be put down next year of August if shelters stay full…(2026)
