Story
Meet Oak! Oak is a young adult, 35lb Pointer mix. Oak has been going to training classes during his time here and has already grown so much. He knows basic commands and enjoys playing and learning with other dogs. He likes to stay close by his person and always knows where you are. Sometimes when you think, "where did he go" you feel a wet nose on your hand for a brief second. His way of saying "I'm right here, silly!" Best Qualities: When asked by the staff what his best qualities are they said he's gentle, a great listener, very smart and easily trainable. His perfect day: To wake up in a safe environment, he can be fearful with new people and places. Then go on a nice long walk, where he doesn't pull on the leash and watches you almost the whole time with his big beautiful eyes. After his walk he'd probably want to nap in a comfy, cozy little spot, maybe curled up to his favorite human or doggie brother or sister. Fun Fact: Oak has siblings here! Two brothers, Spruce and Linden and a sister, Willow. Oak would thrive in a home with a family that can be patient with him and help him gain confidence. He can be a little dog selective because of his shyness so if you're interested and have pets already Oak would want to have a doggy meet and greet first, then once he felt comfortable, he could play all day! If you're interested in meeting with or adopting Oak, please submit an adoption application at https://foothillshumanesociety.org/adopt/adoption-application/ and our adoption team will reach out to you for a possible appointment!

Story
Hey there, folks! Woof! The name's Bones, and I'm here to tell you all about myself. At six and a half years young, I've got plenty of spunk and love to share with someone special like you. Let's start with the basics - I'm a proud American Staffordshire Terrier with a heart as big as my bark. I may be a little older, but let me tell you, I've still got plenty of pep in my step and a whole lot of love to give. Whether it's showering you with kisses or curling up in your lap for a cuddle session, I'm all about spreading joy and affection wherever I go. Now, let's talk about my favorite topic - treats! Oh, how I adore them! I'm highly treat motivated and always eager to learn new tricks or commands in exchange for a tasty snack. But here's the thing - I'm a little on the chunky side and could stand to lose a few pounds. But don't worry, with your help and guidance, I'm sure to slim down and become the picture of health in no time! When it comes to walks, I'm a pro! I walk well on a leash and love exploring the great outdoors by your side. And speaking of exploration, I'm smart as a whip and always eager to please. Whether it's learning new tricks, playing games, or just hanging out with my favorite humans, I'm always up for some fun and adventure. Now, let's address the elephant in the room - my compatibility with other furry friends. While I haven't had much experience with other dogs and cats, I'm willing to give it a try with the right introduction and guidance. After all, I'm a people-pleaser at heart and just want to make my humans proud. Before you come to meet me at the shelter, please note that adopters will need to fill out an adoption application online first. This helps ensure that we find the perfect match for each other. Once your application is approved, we can arrange a visit and start our journey together! At 62 pounds, I may be a big boy, but trust me - I've got an even bigger heart that's just waiting to be filled with love and affection. So, if you're looking for a loyal companion who's equal parts sweet, affectionate, and eager to please, look no further than yours truly, Bones. I can't wait to meet you and start our happily ever after! You can fill out an adoption application for me using this link: https://foothillshumanesociety.org/adopt/adoption-application/

Story
Sweet GiGi needs an active family who likes to hike, run, walk, and play! She is super good girl, does well with dogs her size or larger and is gorgeous too! No felines though, she is not fond of them at all! She is petite pittie at only around 38 lbs. She would love to go on a run with you and then come back and snuggle. If she is the girl for you, please fill out our on line application RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. ( we are in Cleveland County NC) Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. After the home visit is done, a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in and/or any other available dogs we have will be scheduled If the dog and you are a match, contract will be signed and you may take your new family member home.
