Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Honey, a stunning 6-year-old (estimated) Heeler blend with a heart as golden as her name. Originally from Oklahoma, Honey spent the last several years in a loving home, but she recently joined our care after her owner was needing to move and wasn't able to take Honey along. While she has faced some big changes lately, this resilient girl is ready to find a dedicated partner to share in her next great adventure. Honey is mostly deaf, though she has shown to occasionally pick up on certain pitches/tones; however, her hearing loss doesn't slow her down one bit. In fact, she is an incredibly bright girl who has mastered an impressive vocabulary of ASL (American Sign Language) commands. From basics like sit, stay, and shake, to more specific signs like "ball," "go to bed," and even "cat/dog," Honey navigates the world with her eyes and her sharp intellect, proving that communication goes far beyond sound. In the home, Honey is a devoted companion who truly thrives on human attention. While she has gotten along with other dogs of alike size in the past, she prefers the "only child" lifestyle, as she can become jealous or annoyed when she has to share the spotlight with other canines. She is also looking for a home without feline friends. When meeting new people, Honey tends to gravitate toward women more quickly, but with a patient introduction and a little time, she happily opens up to everyone. Because she loves her people so much, she does experience some separation anxiety and will let out a high-pitched whine when left alone. Her perfect match would be a household where someone is home more often than not to provide the companionship and reassurance she craves. Honey is fully prepared for her fresh start: she is already spayed, microchipped, and current on all of her vaccinations. This smart, soulful gal is just waiting for a family who will appreciate her unique way of communicating and reward her loyalty with plenty of love. If you are looking for a dog who will watch you with unwavering devotion and learn alongside you, Honey is ready to sign "yes" to forever with you. Story
This 1-year-old Red Heeler/Shepherd mix is as striking as he is lovable, with beautiful, unique coloring and a coat that turns heads. But it’s his eyes that really get you — the kind that look at you like you hung the stars in the sky. Archie came to us as an owner surrender from Louisiana, and while we don’t know much about his previous home, some of his early mannerisms suggest he may not have always been treated the way he deserved. The good news? Archie doesn’t hold onto the past. Give him a moment — sometimes a little longer for men than women — to sniff, settle in, and realize he’s safe, and you’ll quickly discover you’ve made a best friend for life. And once he warms up… get ready. Archie might just be the wiggliest dog we’ve ever met. Seriously — taking photos of him was nearly impossible because he was just so excited to be around people. His joy is contagious, and he’s guaranteed to make you smile every single day. He absolutely loves playtime, gets along wonderfully with people and other dogs, and does great with kids. We also think he has the potential to peacefully coexist with a cat in the home with proper introductions. On top of all that, Archie is both potty-trained and crate-trained — a solid foundation for his future family. Archie would thrive in just about any home looking to add a happy, goofy, affectionate companion to their pack. If you’re ready for a dog who will love you with his whole heart (and wiggle his whole body while doing it), Archie is your guy.

Story
Hershel is a 6-month-old Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix who is still finding his footing in the world. Shy and reserved at first, this sweet boy is learning to trust after a tough start in life. Despite his fears, his gentle nature shines through; he is quick to offer kisses and nuzzle right into your chest once he feels safe. The best way to help him open up is simply to sit with him. Given time and patience, Hershel blossoms into a loyal companion who will always want to be by your side. When something catches his attention, only one of his ears pops up, which looks very funny in the best way and makes him even more endearing. Hershel does wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. He also gets along with cats and is great with kids, making him a wonderful fit for many families. Like most puppies, he is still working on potty training and learning his manners, but he is eager to grow and thrive with the right guidance. At his core, Hershel is just a scared little guy looking for a safe place to land. With love, patience, and stability, we know his full personality will come shining through, and he will make a devoted, loving addition to his forever home.

Story
Aria is a young mixed working breed who came to us after being found hiding under farm equipment on someone’s property. It’s believed she had been wandering the area for several weeks, likely surviving on her own before finding safety with us. Understandably, Aria needs a little time to warm up to new people — but once she trusts you, she loves with her whole heart. She has had playgroups with dogs her size, but she needs time to get acquainted. She’s a very sweet girl who is eager to please, making her a great candidate for continued training and bonding with her new family. Aria is ready for a home that will give her patience, structure, and the love she’s been waiting for.

Story
Blue heeler and great Pyrenees 5 month old puppy. She is not fixed yet she is up to date on all shots. She is high energy and needs to be in a home with lots of running room. She loves loves loves fetch her ball is the best toy, she hasn't figured out the Frisbee yet. She does potty on her potty pads but if not prompted she will choose other areas. She needs to be with other pups and is extremely playful and loves people. She will bark if you dont pet her, she needs more training that this owner is physically able to do. She likes kids but jumps doesn't realize her size and can knock them over. She absolutely hates baths but doesn't care having her nails trimmed or a shaver to trim her paw fur or fur. She is on a monthly flea tick worm chew. She is teething will eat kibble but prefers wet food. She is a velcro dog and like I said thrives better in a full house with other pups. She as an adult will be a fantastic dog, but with currents owners health and the inability to train her proper

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.King James, or KJ as we call him, has lived an awful lot of life for being just an 8-9 year old dog! He has experienced cruelty at the hands of humans when he was originally brought into rescue around 2020.  He had suffered a gun shot wound to the face that required surgery to remove bullet fragments, he made a full recovery and went on to find a home. Unfortunately, KJ was returned when his family dynamic changed and he again found himself alone. KJ is a terrific medium energy dog, he will greet you with a toothy grin showing off his megawatt smile!  KJ will enjoy being a man of routine in a quieter home, he is friendly with people but can be a little slow to warm up to strangers which is understandable given his history. However, once he befriends you, he will happily be your goofy, loving companion, enjoying all the car rides and walks.  KJ is not a fit with cats. He has done especially well with other medium sized female dogs and should be fine with easy going males around his size.  He has not been introduced to small dogs or children yet. Given that he is a little wary of new people, we feel that older children will be the best match for him. King James' adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives PLUS a free obedience course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha.  Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit.  If you have animals in the home already, we will also conduct meet and greets to ensure it is a match.  Please submit an adoption application for consideration at Adopthope.org. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 18, 2026, 5:00 pm
