Story
Robin Breed: Australian Cattle Dog Mix Age: 7 months +/- Weight: 45 lbs Medical: Up-To Up-To-Date on Vaccinations, microchipped, neutered Cat Friendly: Yes Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Ages 10+ House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Location: Tennessee Robin is a love bug! He is not leash trained but follows easily with slight encouragement and does not pull hard. We are working on the leash with him. He loves to snuggle up and watch a movie with you and then go outside and watch the world move around him. He is not high energy, but he is a puppy so will have very occasional bursts of energy. He has what may very well be a birth defect in his left hip which doesn’t seem to cause him any pain. He can have surgery which might enable him to use his leg more. This is something that if you decide to adopt him, we would fundraise to help pay for. Otherwise, he seems very healthy! Good with cats, with supervision at this point. Easily redirected if necessary. After all, he is still a puppy and can still be a bit clumsy. He would probably do best in a quieter type home. Very good with other dogs, all people and is kennel trained! He will never be your running buddy, but he would gladly curl up at your feet or on your lap for afternoon tea on the front porch! After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Robin’s adoption donation is $450 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.

Story
Huey Breed: Australian Cattle Dog Age: 3.5 years +/- Weight: 45 lbs Medical: Up-To Up-To-Date on Vaccinations, microchipped, neutered Cat Friendly: No Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Ages 5+ House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Location: Maine Huey is a handsome, healthy 3.5 year old typical Australian Cattle Dog– extremely intelligent and full of energy! He loves long walks in the woods, playing fetch with his frisbee, “helping” with any outdoor chores, the occasional marrow bone, and learning new tricks. Once he’s nice and tuckered out, he is a total love bug and will happily snuggle up with you for the evening. He wants a “job” to do, and will designate his own if you don’t give him any. He would make a perfect farmer companion or frequent hiking/outdoor adventure buddy. Or maybe a mate for a professional dog trainer. He picks up new tricks and commands incredibly quickly— always enthusiastic about showing off his smarts and impressing his chosen people. He is fully house trained, crate trained, has an excellent recall, and knows all of the basic commands both verbally and with signs. He will be eager to learn more! He loves playing hide and seek, “find it”, shares his toys no problem, and takes treats gently. Huey also LOVES car rides. He knows they mean adventure and so is very excited to jump in, but he likes to “herd” passing vehicles. He does best when restrained with a harness seat belt attachment, or a crate in the back for longer trips. True to his breed, he herds. He has lived with cats safely, but he does chase, and would ideally like a home without cats. Huey prefers being the center of attention but he has shared a home with another dog. As long as their personalities mesh well, he will be glad to have a friend to romp around with. He is overwhelmed easily in large groups of dogs and would probably not enjoy a multi-dog home. He has done best with children aged 5-10, and would be fine with older kids as well. He may knock over very little ones by accident if he becomes overly enthused, but he is gentle with littles in general. Huey is a velcro dog and does not like being left behind! Like many covid puppies, Huey has grown up to be wary of strangers, and does not get along with every dog he meets. He has responded well to targeted training and needs an owner who is able to continue that training with patience and consistency. Huey really needs a home where he isn’t left by himself for a full work week. He gets bored easily and boredom can turn to misbehavior and "tantrums" if he isn’t properly tired out. Folks who work from home, have flexible schedules, or a full time stay at home adult would suit him best. If you’re looking for a big personality, unwaveringly loyal buddy with the brains to match his brawn, and you have the capacity to give the attention and energy to meet his mental and physical needs, Huey may be the perfect dog for you! He loves to play and just be crazy! He loves all other dogs and just wants to be everyone’s buddy! He probably will be too much for a cat. If you have a dog that has little patience, then this would not be a good buddy. If you enjoy NASCAR, well he will run it for you! He would benefit from some training classes once you bond with him. He does love kids; we recommend children on the older side due to his rambunctiousness. He is a great listener and crates well. He does still need leash training but has a lot of possibilities!
