You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Thank you for checking out our wonderful orphans. We try to post videos for each pet so you can really get to know them. If you would like to find out more please email or call Diane at... diane@ulpr.org or 870-577-3744. Meet Haumea – The Heart You Don’t Want to Overlook Haumea may not turn every head at first glance. She’s not the kind of dog most people would call “fancy,” and she doesn’t need to be. Her beauty lives deeper — in her eyes, in her steady presence, and in the gentle joy that radiates from her heart. If you pause for just a moment and truly look at her, you’ll see it — the quiet grace of a soul that’s pure, loyal, and endlessly loving. Haumea stays right by your side, as if she’s always known that companionship is life’s greatest gift. Her heart is joy in its most honest form. She gives it freely and asks for nothing more than a place to belong. Whoever looks past the surface and chooses this beautiful girl will gain more than a dog — they’ll gain comfort, laughter, and a love so constant it will change their days forever. Adopting Haumea won’t just be a good decision. It will be the best one you ever make.   Please email us at diane@ulpr.org and request an application. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 9, 2025, 1:23 am

Story
Name: Maile Breed: Cattle Dog Mix Age/Sex: ~4.5 yrs old F(s) Weight: 72# and going down! Medical: possible arthritis in back left leg Cat Friendly: No Dog Friendly: No Kid Friendly: No Crate Trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Location: New Jersey Bio: The name "Maile" is Hawaiian. People from Jersey pronounce it "Miley". She had a rough start, being bought from a pet store and then kept in a bedroom. At around 2 yrs old she landed herself in the shelter circulation... for 2 1/2 years. She gained a bit of weight in the shelter. Maile has lost 11+ lbs since she's been in a home on the correct diet. Maile has been in a foster home for almost 3 months now, and is doing absolutely fabulous! She's currently on Tase of the Wild Ancient Grains with Salmon, with some pure pumpkin mixed in. She also gets a hip & joint supplement as she may have arthritis in her back left leg. Maile knows sit, stay, paw, other paw, high five, down, spin, get it, and place. She is currently attending basic training classes at J&R Kennel in Lakehurst where she's learning something new every week! She does have a very high prayer drive, but listens to and adores her handler. She is always ready for work, and loves to learn new things! Although she has the cattle dog energy, she also loves to just lay around the house. She is obsessed with toys, and very good with them! She is non-destructive in and of the home, and goes right in her crate when she sees you getting ready to leave. She is a little nervous if there's a bad storm coming, but she's fine with fireworks and any other loud noises. I'm sure she would love to sleep with her human at night, but I don't think she ever has. Currently, her bedtime is 10 PM and she goes right in her crate. I think she would love to go swimming, but she is deathly afraid of towels, so drying her off would be a hurdle! Maile would do great in a home with breed experience, no other pets, no kids, and preferably women only. She needs someone who understands her, someone who will have her meet company outside with treats, or just put her away when company comes over. She is also sensitive to touch in some spots, and needs someone who will go very slow with her, and continue training her with the basket muzzle. She has a lot of little quirks, half of which is because she was not probably socialized, and the other half is just because she's a cattle dog! After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Maile’s adoption donation is $500 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and Spay/Neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and $100 deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.

Story
Name: Charlotte Breed: Australian Cattle Dog Age/Sex: 7.5 years; Female Weight: 50lbs Medical: up to date on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped Cat Friendly: Yes Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: 10+ Crate Trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Location: Maine Meet Charlotte – Loyal & Energetic Cattle Dog Mix Looking for a Calmer Home 🐾 Charlotte is a beautiful 7-year-old cattle dog mix in need of a quieter, more structured home. Charlotte would do best in a home with one or two adults. She tolerates other animals (currently lives with both a dog and cats), but it’s clear she’d prefer to be the only pet. She’s not outwardly aggressive, but she is reactive—especially in overstimulating or chaotic environments. She is a typical Cattle Dog. She’s incredibly smart and playful, and she loves to run, fetch, and play tug-of-war. As a cattle dog she can be nippy (a herding trait), but she’s never bitten. That said, she’s not a good fit for homes with young children or high activity levels. Charlotte does have arthritis in her hind knees—her left knee is worse than the right—so while she still enjoys playtime, she’ll need a home that can help her balance activity with rest. She also recently had the tip of her tail amputated due to injury, but it’s healing wonderfully and hasn’t slowed her down. Charlotte will thrive with someone who has experience herding breeds and who can provide her with a calm, predictable environment where she can feel safe and understood. Story
Name: Jack Breed: ACD Labrador Mix Age/Sex: 2.5 years; Male Weight: approximately 50lbs Medical: up to date on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped Cat Friendly: Yes Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Yes Crate Trained: Yes, however, freaks out and barks a lot House Trained: In Training Location: Alabama Jack and his sister Jill are two of many unfortunate dogs that found themselves abandoned by their owners and then brought to a high kill shelter in the South. His sister, Jill, was lucky to be adopted. Jack, though, was what we call an eleventh-hour rescue. We had a fabulous foster step up for him before he ran out of time. Now this handsome devil is looking for his forever home! Jack is a Velcro dog with some anxiety. He wants to be with his person all the time. He loves cuddling and playing with toys. He walks wonderfully on lead and does not pull. He is not a barker, except in the crate. He loves playing with other dogs and is very gentle with small dogs and cats. Jack is not food or toy aggressive. He is an inquisitive dog that loves figuring things out. He is very playful and does not jump on people. He loves to climb, and because he feels like a Mountain Climber in Training we are currently working on not jumping on tables. He is treat-motivated and knows the following commands: come and sit. You honestly could not ask for a bigger love bug and he loves to give kisses! He is an explorer that likes to go on expeditions when left alone, so though he may not love his crate it is best to crate him when he is left alone, or your home may not be left in the same condition! Jack is also a crowd pleaser and loves to meet strangers! He loves people of all ages. Do be warned, he prefers not to sleep alone, so be ready for company!
