Story
Meet Peanut — A Strong, Active Companion Peanut came to us when his previous family was no longer able to care for him. He is described as a strong, active dog who loves children and enjoys being around people. He has successfully lived with cats and female dogs in the past. Peanut is very determined and clever—he has a history of finding his way out if doors are left open and has broken tie-out lines when left unattended. In the shelter, he shows lots of energy and enthusiasm. When meeting other dogs, he can come on strong at first with intense focus, though he has been able to redirect and soften his approach over time. He has also shown off some fun skills, including jumping right up into your arms!Peanut would do best in a home that can provide plenty of exercise, structure, and engagement. He thrives when his physical and mental needs are met and will need consistent outlets for his energy. A secure environment and attentive handling will help keep him safe and set him up for success. Thoughtful, slow introductions to other dogs—especially calm, well-balanced female dogs—will help support positive interactions. With consistency, activity, and a committed home, Peanut has the potential to be a loyal and fun-loving companionBehavior and personality assessment is based on information provided by previous owner(s) and/or observations in a shelter environment and may not accurately reflect the pet’s behavior in your home.

Story
We rescued Willow from a litter of pups left in a box on the side of the road brought to the Midcoast’s humane society. She was microchipped and neutered. She will be three this October. She fast became a member of the family. She loves her brother Duke who is a lab mix. Even though they play rough and LOUD. They also love cleaning each other ears and napping side by side in the sun. She also loves her boy (14 years old) and girl (7 years old) and is great with them. She loves snuggles, watching out the window, standing on everything with her front paws up and back legs on the ground, She is smart and loves to nap and sleep in her kennel, knows sit, stay, loves to chase a tennis ball, chew on a bone or pig ear, play with mental enrichment toys, house trained, and learned the electric fence fast. But she has become reactive to the neighbor kids yelling and running in and out, and around the yard. She wants to herd them and recently bit released and gave space to a little girl.

Story
Barnaby is a young 7 month old pup that catches your eye and also your heart when you first meet him.  He is a wonderful young boy that weighs 34 pounds and should become a handsome adult dog that will weigh in the range of 50 pounds as an adult.  His life started with great hope but eventually the people who adopted this cute pup became cold hearted and treated him with physical hits and loud voices when he was not the perfect puppy.  A neighbor intervened and begged Critter Cavalry Rescue to take this young and innocent pup in to our program.  Barnaby escaped years of emotional and physical abuse.  He is such a bright and happy spirit that just needs some time to get his mind wrapped around the love that is being offered to him now.  No loud voices and the forgiveness when he is NOT perfect.  He is so nice and submissive and humble in spirit.  He just wants to be accepted and have fun with other dogs and maybe become good friends with a cat if needed.   His breed is more of a Shepherd/Heeler mix and we just adore his strong black and tan coat that is crowned with the best standup ears ever!   His face pleads with you to be happy with him and to be his FRIEND.  Can you imagine all these past months how sad it was not to feel love?  Critter Cavalry Rescue knows that there is a caring family, person,  young couple or empty nesters who just want to pour their love for a dog in need upon a boy like Barnaby.  He is neutered, had all his necessary shots, microchipped, healthy and truly not emotionally damaged.  He just needs that promise of kindness, steady guidance in gentle voices and love.   Love heals everything and makes us forget when love wasn't there in the past.  Barnaby will be a smart and easy dog to polish into a phenomenal companion influence in your daily life.  Contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com  PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comApril 20, 2026, 11:34 pm

Breed: ACD mixAge/Sex: M 1-2 yearsWeight: 58 lbsCat Friendly: unknownDog Friendly: yes, with proper introductionsKid Friendly: yes but is exuberant and strong.  Would probably knock over small kids by accidentCrate Trained: yes for sleeping and short periods during the day.  Has not been tested for longer periods.House Trained: mostlyLocation: Burlington, VT Cowboy is a young ACD mix originally from Texas who has nothing but joy and delight for everything he does and everyone he meets.  We don’t know much about his backstory, but he is incredibly sweet, joyful and desperately wants to be a Good Boy and to have someone he can love with his WHOLE heart.  He hasn’t yet met a stranger, and true to his breed, he’s game for pretty much any adventure when he can do it with his person.  We’ve gone running and hiking, he comes to work at my horse farm, he’s visited other people in their homes, and has an excellent off switch when he’s gotten enough exercise and mental stimulation. Everywhere we’ve been people have commented on how sweet he is.  He lives very peacefully with my older Husky/Mal mix and is respectful of her space.  They do engage and play and are absolutely fine everywhere we go together.Cowboy is mostly housetrained, he still has occasional accidents, but it’s getting better and better as he settles into a home routine.  He sleeps very peacefully through the night in his crate, but is not a big fan of being left in it for longer periods of time.  Both of these issues just need time and patient training.  He does try to herd my horses and will nip at moving things, especially when playing or with livestock.  His recall is coming along and he’s learning to sit, stay, wait and heel although none of these are fully confirmed yet.  He’s been learning leash manners and although he’s still very strong at times, it’s improving every day.Cowboy would do best in a house with ACD experience and no small children or unattended animals, such as chickens, he is so exuberant he’d knock small kids over and I don’t think he could help himself with chickens.  With other livestock he will need supervision and learn redirection.                Cowboy is a spectacular dog, he’s SO sweet and funny and joyful.  Want an Adventure Buddy that wants to do it ALL with YOU? Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.Cowboy’s adoption donation is $500 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and Spay/Neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and $100 deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Let me introduce you to Annie ❤️   Annie is a beautiful Red Heeler with a heart to match. While she’s been raising her puppies, she’s also been showing everyone exactly who she is—and it’s something special.   Her foster mom says if she didn’t already have five dogs of her own, Annie would be staying. That alone tells you everything you need to know.   Annie has all the best traits of a cattle dog—she’s smart, attentive, loyal, and deeply connected to her people. She’s the kind of dog who wants to be part of your world, whether that’s helping you with daily life or simply being by your side.   And underneath that classic Heeler intelligence is a very sweet, gentle soul. She’s loving, steady, and has done an incredible job raising her puppies.   Annie is ready for a home of her own now—a place where she’s not just the mama, but someone’s heart dog.   If you know and love the spirit of a good cattle dog, Annie may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.   Apply to adopt Annie and give this wonderful girl the life she deserves. Thank you for checking out our wonderful orphans. We try to post videos for each pet so you can really get to know them. Story
Meet Red Sedona — a striking pure Red Heeler whose beauty is only matched by her incredible spirit. At just 2 years old, she has already done the hard work of raising six puppies, showing unwavering devotion and strength along the way. Now that her babies are off to find their own homes, Sedona is ready for something she’s never truly had before—a family all her own. Sedona is the kind of dog who leaves an impression the moment you meet her. According to her foster mom (a self-proclaimed Corgi enthusiast), she’s everything you could hope for in a Heeler—intelligent, loyal, intuitive, and deeply affectionate. She doesn’t just want to be near her people—she wants to be part of everything you do. Whether she’s curled up beside you, resting at your feet, or gently sneaking into your lap, Sedona’s love is constant and genuine. She does wonderfully with children over 6, showing a natural respect for boundaries and an ability to listen when corrected. She’s eager to learn and thrives on guidance, already knowing basic commands like “sit” and picking up new skills quickly—her dog door success in under five days is just one example of how sharp she is. Like many Heelers, Sedona has a gentle herding instinct and may softly mouth at fingers as you move about. It’s her way of communicating, not hurting, and she responds very well to redirection. With consistency and love, she continues to blossom into an incredibly well-mannered companion. She’s a dream on a leash, happy to walk calmly by your side, and just as content to relax quietly for hours while you work or unwind. And when her playful side comes out, expect plenty of affection—she’s earned a reputation as a champion kisser and isn’t shy about sharing it. Sedona may take a little extra time to warm up to men, but once she feels safe, her loyalty runs deep. She’s looking for a home that will appreciate her intelligence, embrace her loving nature, and give her the stability she deserves.   SHE MUST HAVE A FENCED YARD After giving so much of herself so young, Red Sedona is ready to be cherished—not as a mama, but as the beloved companion she was always meant to be.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com    PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comApril 20, 2026, 11:34 pm
