Story
Pepper is my grand puppy. My daughter has a baby in Arizona and Pepper did not take to him. Fear of her hurting the baby we had Pepper brought to Michigan thinking our 14 acres would be great for her. She loved the space to run and play. We also have other animals and Pepper did not take to them. She also does not do well with children. She currently is staying with a friend who will be back traveling soon for years. She does well with him and is full of love when I visit. She's very protective of him and I. He has been training her extensively and she is doing well, but as said he has to go on the road for work. We love her too no end and don't want to put her down she just needs love and patience and constant training which we are unable to provide. Please if there is anyone who does not have other animals or small children Pepper will love you and protect you. Our hearts are breaking but we are out of options.

Story
Name: Maggie Age: 5 Years Gender: Spayed Female Weight: 50 pounds Breed: Heeler Mix Adoption Fee: $250 Am I good with: Kids: Yes Cats: Yes Dogs: Meet and Greet Required About Me: Hi, I'm Maggie, like the name suggests, I'm a classic, dependable girl with a spark of fun! I'm sweet as can be and still have a bit of pep in my step. I love spending time with my people, whether we're out for a walk or just hanging out together. I am heartworm positive, but don't worry, treatment is covered, and I'm already on the path to feeling better. I've got just the right mix of mellow and playful, and I'm ready to be your loyal companion through it all! I have been at the ARP since 6/27/25 and am currently at the rescue. The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

He LOVES cuddling on the couch, snuggling into warm blankets fresh from the dryer, and rubbing his face on yours when he wants attention.  Squeaky ball fanatic  Completed obedience classes—smart and eager to please  Great in the car and enjoys short walks  Excellent house manners  Showing wonderful improvement on leash around distractions, including other dogs Leroy would do best as the only dog in his home or could live with a submissive female dog. While he’s sweet and friendly with people (just ask his vet team!), he’s happiest and most relaxed when he doesn’t have to share his space with more dominant dogs. He’d thrive in a calm, adult-only home—perfect for a single person or couple looking for a loyal, snuggly companion. If you’ve been waiting for that one special dog to be your best friend, Leroy is your guy!  ************************************************************************************************************************** Leroy – Your One and Only  (Intro Bio) Fostered in Argos, IN | ~2 years old | Medium-sized Australian Cattle Dog Leroy is the total package—affectionate, playful, and incredibly loyal. He LOVES cuddling up on the couch, snuggling into warm blankets fresh from the dryer, and rubbing his face on yours when he wants attention. He’s a squeaky ball fanatic and has completed obedience classes, proving he’s smart and eager to please. He enjoys short walks, rides well in the car, and has excellent house manners. But most importantly, Leroy needs to be the only dog in the home. While he’s a sweet, friendly guy with people (ask his vet team!), he’s happiest and most relaxed when he doesn’t have to share his space with other dogs. Leroy would thrive in a calm, adult-only home—perhaps with a single person or a couple—who’s looking for a devoted companion to shower with love. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Ellen – Your Sweet Shadow Ellen is a gentle, tricolor Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix who’s about 9 years old. Petite at just 35 pounds, she’s the perfect size for snuggles and companionship. Ellen has already proven her resilience—after overcoming mammary issues and healing beautifully from her spay, she’s ready to enjoy the good life with a loving family. What makes Ellen special Sweet & Loyal: Ellen loves to follow her people everywhere, always eager to be part of whatever you’re doing. Dog-Friendly: She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, making her a great fit for multi-pet households. Affectionate Companion: Ellen adores giving kisses, rubbing against her humans, and soaking up massages around her neck and face. Couch Potato or Shadow: Left alone, she’s happy to relax quietly, but she’ll also trail you from room to room to keep you in sight. Family-Friendly: Ellen loves everyone—including children—and greets new people with friendliness. Low Energy: Due to age, she’s calm and easygoing, with modest exercise needs. Special Considerations: Ellen is hearing impaired, stairs can be tricky for her, and she hasn’t been tested with cats—but her foster believes she’d do fine with them. Ellen’s Ideal Home Ellen is the kind of dog who will quietly brighten your days with her gentle presence and unconditional love. She’s happiest in a home where she can be near her humans, enjoying a relaxed lifestyle filled with affection.
