Story
I need to find a home for our two 5 yo, German shepherd mix, brother sister. They are super sweet & extremely smart dogs. Our family situation changed a year ago. Not wanting to experience anymore loss, my son &I have been trying to keep up with caring for them. However we cant provide the care &attention they deserve. We live on a busy road &we dont have a fenced in yard. So they cant run free in the yard. We arent able to regularly walk the dogs, so unfortunately they spend most of the day inside &bored. They would be fantastic farm dogs - they are herding dogs! They are also very aware of their surroundings & often notice when people arrive way before I do. So they are good guard dogs. They are good with kids & other animals. The male is neutered. Both are due for booster shots. They are litter mates so we would like to keep them together if possible but we are willing to separate them. Im be happy to share more info with anyone interested in providing them a home.

Not good with kids, Not good with dogs, Not good with cats, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet Denali! He is house trained and knows some basic commands. He isn't the most cuddly (sometimes he just prefers to lay on the couch alone), and he could for sure take burning some more energy throughout the day. Me alone and my small yard only provides so much. Recently, two additional dogs were placed on to me. After multiple intro attempts and MONTHS of keeping my house entirely split, he is unable to get to the point where having a multi-dog house is possible. He NEEDS to be an only pet, he has never been around kids. Admittedly, he needs caught up on shots as his behavior (and cost of mobile vets) has made it very difficult for me to manage. Unfortunately with the other two dogs not being able to find homes from my temporary care, it must be him to find somewhere better. Ideally a single adult/couple with reactive/dog-aggressive experience.

Story
Name: Maggie Age: 5 Years Gender: Spayed Female Weight: 50 pounds Breed: Heeler Mix Adoption Fee: $250 Am I good with: Kids: Yes Cats: Yes Dogs: Meet and Greet Required About Me: Hi, I'm Maggie, like the name suggests, I'm a classic, dependable girl with a spark of fun! I'm sweet as can be and still have a bit of pep in my step. I love spending time with my people, whether we're out for a walk or just hanging out together. I am heartworm positive, but don't worry, treatment is covered, and I'm already on the path to feeling better. I've got just the right mix of mellow and playful, and I'm ready to be your loyal companion through it all! I have been at the ARP since 6/27/25 and am currently at the rescue. The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
