You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.Lobo is a very friendly and playful Australian Cattle Dog puppy. He's around 3.5 months old and is doing great with house-training. He's good with people and other dogs. He is a gorgeous puppy and a sweet boy! Lobo's adoption fee is $450 all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age- appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply. Like all Australian Cattle Dogs, GSDs, and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Lobo will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to be a well-balanced, well-behaved dog. This sweet boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that he needs. Because of that, Lobo's ideal owner will have prior Australian Cattle Dog, GSD, or other similar breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills and manners.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.December 12, 2025, 1:31 am

Story
Winston - Deaf Dogs Hear with Their Hearts Hello world I'm Winston....please don't mind me as I practice my sign language! You see, I'm hearing impaired, but I am super smart so I use hand signs to communicate! I have been waiting a while for my perfect home, but I will be a great companion once I find the right match. I will need SEVERAL MEETS before adoption, as I am people selective and it takes me a bit to get to know and trust someone. I'm a two year old who is a happy, handsome fella with gorgeous baby blues and would love to be someone's one and only. Once I trust them, I'd love for them to take me on walks/runs, play fetch, toss me toys, snuggle with me and teach me new commands! I do have a few requirements, though: I NEED A FENCED IN YARD, AN EXPERIENCED OWNER AND MUST BE AN ONLY DOG. So, if you have enough time, patience, dogs skills and can go slow with me, I will learn to trust you and be your loyal forever boy. No apartments please! Also, small children make me really nervous as I can't hear them so teenagers and adults only. I also prefer a house that won't be active with too many strangers coming and going but am crate trained, if needed. I currently living with a trainer and she loves me so much that she will provide continued training help for my whole life! I haven't had many good experiences in my life yet, so I'd love to be your loyal best new friend, if you have time to devote to me! Want to meet me and see how amazing we can be together? Please apply at www.nalarescue.org to adopt or for more information. All shots, boosters, rabies, spay/neuter, and microchip is included in NALA Rescue's Adoption donation fee. All meets are scheduled by appointment only once an application is approved. Please apply at www.nalarescue.org and if approved we will reach out to the applicant and answer all questions. All dogs/puppies are available until they are removed from this site so please no inquires if a dog is available.

Story
Danni is a 4 year old Cattle dog mix who is training to play ball for the major leagues one day! Her preferred pawrent would throw a ball for her all day long.  Her foster dad is encouraging her to expand her horizons and she is now enjoying long walks, squeeky toys, butt scratches, belly rubs and cuddles on the couch and bed.  She has mastered basic commands like "sit" and will now "wait" before eating her meal or exiting.  They are working on "paw", "lay" and "stay".  She appears to be potty trained and has not had any accidents in her foster home.  Danni had some past resource guarding tendencies so she should not go to a home with smaller kids.  She does tend to startle with loud noises and requires reassurance to settle down and relax in the car.  She does not seem to like other dogs but if her foster dad has her engaged in a game of fetch she is able to ignore the neighbor's dog barking at her. While Danni may be a bit anxious at first, she connects deeply with humans who show her compassion, patience, attention and have a good arm! Apply to meet Danni and she may do her spin excited dance for you! The adoption fee is $350** and covers age appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and a spay/neuter. The adoption fee helps cover the cost of these vetting procedures. If you want to meet this pet, or are interested in adopting, please submit an application.  **Part of Danni's adoption fee is sponsored by someone who loves her very much! Her adoption fee is now $100** We're open from 12-4 PM every day EXCEPT Wednesday! Did you know you don't need to have an appointment to visit our available cats and dogs***? Story
Meet Jake, a gentle soul. At 10 years young, Jake is a sweet, soulful heeler mix who proves that age is just a number. This 62-pound gentleman has so much love left to give and he’s ready to share it with a forever family who’ll cherish him. Jake came to us after some pack conflicts in his previous home, but he’s shown amazing growth in his foster care. With slow introductions and respectful dog friends, he’s learned to build new bonds, even becoming best buds with his foster dog siblings!  He’s a total people-lover, gentle, affectionate, and happiest when he’s near his humans. Jake enjoys easy walks, cozy couch time, and even joins his foster family for 2-mile jogs every day (yes, he’s still got plenty of pep in his step!). Jake is the full package: loyal, calm, loving, and still full of life. If you’re searching for a devoted walking partner and snuggle buddy, this handsome cattle dog will melt your heart. The adoption fee is $250 + tax and covers age-appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and a spay/neuter.  We're open from 12-4 PM every day EXCEPT Wednesday!
