HEY EVERYBODY!! My name is Barney 🐾😆 Intake Type: Surrender Intake Date: 05/08/2026 DOB: 12/11/2025 Energy: Medium And before you ask… yes, I am aware that I look like a baby deer learning how to walk for the first time. I’ve got long legs, giant paws, floppy skin, and approximately zero personal awareness of where my body is at any given moment. I’m still trying to grow into all of this, okay?! 😂 Some people say I’m “awkward.” I prefer the term ✨extra goofy✨. My brother Gus is here at the shelter too, so together we’re basically a comedy duo. He’s the sweet thoughtful one, and I’m the one accidentally running into walls because I got too excited about snacks. I may be a little hard of hearing, but that doesn’t stop me from living my BEST life. I still love making new friends, getting attention, playing around, and acting like the oversized puppy I am. Honestly, I just operate on vibes and happiness 😌 I’m looking for a family that doesn’t mind a little extra drool, a lot of personality, and random zoomies that come out of nowhere. I promise I’ll keep you laughing every single day. Whether I’m tripping over my own feet, dramatically flopping onto the couch, or giving you my giant goofy grin, life with me will never be boring ❤️ So what do you say? Wanna come meet your new best friend? If you’re interested in meeting me or adopting me, go to https://www.hornellanimalshelter.org and fill out an adoption application or call the shelter at (607) 324-1270.

Story
Hi everyone, my name is Gus 🐾💙 Intake type: Surrender Intake date: 05/08/2026 DOB: 12/11/2025 Energy Level: Medium I’m a very special little guy looking for a forever family to love me just the way I am. I may be hard of hearing and partially blind, but I promise that doesn’t make me any less loving, sweet, or deserving of a happy home. I just experience the world a little differently than most pups do. Sometimes new places can make me a little nervous at first because I rely a lot on trust, patience, and kindness to help me feel safe. But once I know I’m loved, my personality starts to shine. I love cozy blankets, gentle pets, yummy treats, and being close to my people. I may not always hear you call my name or see everything around me clearly, but I can absolutely feel love — and I have so much of it to give 🥹 I’m hoping there’s someone out there willing to give a special needs pup like me a chance. I truly believe my perfect family is out there somewhere. All I want is a soft place to nap, a safe home, and humans who will love me forever. I’m currently staying at the Hornell Area Humane Society while I wait for my happily ever after 🐶 If you’re interested in meeting me or adopting me, please visit https://www.hornellanimalshelter.org and fill out an adoption application or call the shelter at (607) 324-1270.

Story
Chauncey 2 years old Neutered male Australian Cattle Dog 30 lbs Chauncey is unfortunately still on the hunt for a home of his own. We thought we had some solid leads but they haven’t worked out. His story didn’t start out great - his owner died and the family dumped him on the streets of rural KY. He then found himself at a shelter, posted 2 weeks in a row, but sadly no adopter or rescue stepped up. Understandably he became stressed in that environment and when we inquired about him, we found out he would be euthanized the next day. Some very dedicated people worked hard to get him here and he’s settled in well. In typical Heeler fashion he is very loyal to his foster mom and needs an adopter who will give him some patience while adjusting to a new person of his own - but once he chooses you, you’ll have a best friend for life! - Dog friendly, cats unknown - Crate trained - Appears to be potty trained - Walks great on leash, fenced yard not required - Super smart and obedient boy! - No young kids, please If you’re interested in adopting Chauncey please complete an application at www.rosebudrescue.com/adopt Long distance adoptions considered - must travel to us in the Buffalo, NY area for a meet and greet. *Please keep in mind that it is time consuming for our volunteers to process applications. Story
Garth 1 year old Neutered male Australian Cattle Dog mix 30-35 lbs Garth was adopted about a month ago and unfortunately returned today. His adopters were so sweet and kind and tried so hard to make things work, but unfortunately we learned that their living situation just wasn’t going to be right for him. He came out of a puppy mill around 10 months old, so he will take time to warm up to things. We have decided he will do best in a home with direct access to a fenced yard, and preferably another confident dog who can show him the ropes. - Dog friendly - Previously did well with cats - Crate trained, may be vocal while adjusting - Previously potty trained if kept on a good routine - Will walk on leash well once he’s comfortable - NEEDS a fully fenced yard for potty breaks - Would likely prefer a home without stairs If you’re interested in adopting Garth please complete an application at www.rosebudrescue.com/adopt Long distance adoptions considered at the adopters expense. *Please keep in mind that it is time consuming for our volunteers to process applications. We ask that you are sure you are ready to welcome a dog into your home and are seriously interested in adopting BEFORE applying.*

Story
We have a tale of 2 sisters and we want to share their story. Gracie and Katie came to us due to their owner no longer being able to care for them. Sadly, most shelters, rescues and humane societies have been running at full or over capacity, us included. What made placement difficult for these girls is that they are both special needs as they are both BLIND and unfortunately because they had no where to go euthanasia was an option their owner was faced with, due to a few rescue options falling through at the last minute. We were contacted by a local vet clinic who was desperately seeking placement for these sweet souls as they were running out of time. Luckily, we had 2 dogs that were adopted over the weekend which helped free up space to take these girls in. The girls have been with us a few weeks and they have their own private peaceful room to relax in together. We knew their transition to a shelter environment with new people would be difficult for them since they are unable to see. We have been taking baby steps & have worked with them slowly as they were very confused as to where they were and if they could talk we are sure they were wondering `who are all these new people, scents, sounds and voices`? We are happy to report Gracie & Katie have made great progress...they have now made the transition to feeling much more comfortable with us, enjoying their walks, exploring our play yard and loving all of the attention they receive from our staff. They love chin scratches, they get excited when they recognize our voices and they seek us out for affection. They have become more confident & playful and we now receive doggy kisses from them! It is absolutely wonderful to see how far they have come from being scared, shut down & unsure of their new surroundings. We are searching for a special home willing to adopt both Gracie & Katie together, as they are a definitely a bonded pair. Although they are unable to see what their future holds, They hear us tell them everyday how a loving home is coming, They enjoy smelling and tasting all the treats they receive. Most importantly they can feel the loving touch of someone who cares each and everyday. Still young and so full of personality at just 3 yrs old all these girls need is a home. If interested in offering these loving pups a second chance please submit an application for consideration to SPCAallegany@gmail,com - for more info call 585-593-2200 ext 2. Applicatio
