Story
Have you been thinking you might want a cattle dog? If so, visit with Lewis! Lewis NEEDS someone who WANTS and understands this breed and all that they require. He is a herding type dog who is at his happiest when he has a full-time job. These kinds of dogs have high prey drive, can be nippy (that is how they instinctually herd) and are very vocal; he is NOT recommended for homes with young children, small dogs, cats or other small animals who he may find fun to chase. Lewis is very smart and takes direction well and he needs that consistency and structure, otherwise he will find his own way to entertain himself. Lewis is a friendly guy who really enjoys treats and all the petting that you're willing to give him! If you want an active, super smart companion and can provide for his needs, Lewis just may be the dog you are looking for. If you are interested in meeting Lewis, please submit an adoption form found on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com. Once received, we will contact you to arrange a visit. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Meet Raymond: Everybody Loves Raymond! His handler says “Raymond is smart, very affectionate, loves to cuddle and sleep with you. He loves to play with other dogs but more than anything he wants to please his humans.” We cannot understand why this handsome fella is still here. He only wants affection and cuddles with his people. Currently, he is in our DASH Prison Training Program where he is excelling with basic commands like “sit, stay, down, wait, and leave it.” He is being set up for success in his new home.  He is housebroken and does well in his crate (although he would rather be next to his person). The only training he needs your help with is not pulling while walking. Like most young dogs, Raymond can be excitable when he sees new people. This can lead to him jumping and pulling. As quickly as he learns, it likely won’t take long to correct this behavior. He will just need continued guidance and practice with you as he acclimates to his new environment. Raymond loves to be outdoors to run and play, a yard or somewhere to run would be ideal. He has not been kid or cat-tested yet, so proper introductions will be necessary. Raymond loves all people and would be a great addition to any family! Heelers are typically known to be good family dogs. It is his turn! Raymond loves everyone…. And Everybody Loves Raymond. Come meet him today!! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 24, 2024, 8:18 pm

VOLUNTEERS : We need transport drivers who can do legs between WV and New England! Driver Application: http://form.jotform.us/form/50214993744156 More Info: https://groups.io/org/groupsio/ICanDrive   Please submit an adoption application if you would like to adopt me! http://form.jotform.us/form/51725688240156 Contact us: https://secure.jotform.us/form/51797057247162 Tootsie, a female, was born October 31, 2023. She came to ARF with her brother Quincy, surrendered by a good Samaritan who kept them safe until there was room for them. Their mother was a red heeler and daddy a lab/hound mix, Tootsie weighed in at 23 pounds on 2/27/24 and 29 pounds on 3/26/24, so she's growing well. Tootsie is chocolate with dappled tan that makes her look like she's been playing in the mud.. As she gets older, her fur is changing and the tan color is spreading. When the pups first came, Tootsie was the food hog, and she still likes to eat but has realized that more food will come. She also is also more vocal. She sometimes barks at her own shadow, which is fun to watch. Because she is so vocal, she would not be a good apartment dweller. She's now more of a "demand barker," especially at food time, but she alerts to new sights and sounds, too. Once the pups learned what toys were, they collected them in a pile to have always ready. She loves to play in water, chase squirrels, gather sticks (her favorite toy), and bark at cows. She knows "sit," "down," "come," and "drop it" commands and is crate trained as well as people and dog friendly. She sleeps well in her crate at night and keeps it clean. She's learned to walk on a leash, but she still might pull a little now and then. She's not a couch potato but an active, growing pup who needs stimulation and exercise. On 2/27/24 she had her first vet visit and received shots, had a negative 4DX, and was given drontal for whip worms with additional follow-up doses scheduled. She was spayed on 3/11/24 and has recovered nicely. She would even sit for her foster mom to take her cone off and on. Tootsie has a microchip but prefers an above-ground fenced yard for safe play and containment. She'd likely think chasing a cat was a great game, though, but the cat probably wouldn't agree. She's a smart girl, funny and entertaining, fully vetted and really for her forever family.   ------------------------------------- Animal Rights Fur-Ever is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-volunteer animal rescue located in Ripley, West Virginia.
