Meet Costata! This adorable little lady is ready to find her fresh start with a furever family. Costata is spunky, playful, and simply adorable! She appears to be potty trained and knows some basic skills including "sit", "shake", and "drop it". She is very food motivated, and will do anything for a tennis ball! Costata is still a little nervous with strangers, especially men, so she is looking for a family that will give her time to warm up. She would do best in a home without men. Once she is comfortable with you Costata is simply perfect, and will follow you everywhere! She has done well with other dogs and cats. If you have other animals in your home, we recommend bringing them in to do a meet and greet before taking Costata home. If you are interested in meeting Costata, please submit an adoption form on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com and we will contact you to arrange a time to visit. Story
Meet Stewie! Stewie came to us after being surrendered to our veterinary partner. He is a happy, outgoing guy ready for a fresh start! As with any young puppy, and especially a young Cattle Dog type mix, Stewie's new home should be prepared to invest time into training, socialization, and an outlet for his energy. He is a spunky guy always ready for the next adventure! Stewie previously lived with another puppy and does well with other dogs and cats. Stewie knows a few basic skills like "sit", and loves to work for treats or toys which makes training very easy! If you have other animals in your home, we recommend bringing them in to do a meet and greet before taking Stewie home. Story
Hazel is a sweet 6-year old+ female Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix who was brought to the HSOV on February 19, 2026 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who had picked Hazel up at 4900 State Route 676 in Stockport Ohio. This little lady was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. Hazel has a gray-and-white coat with subtle tan shading, a long tail, and a beautiful face with soulful brown eyes, a slender muzzle, and large floppy gray/white ears. Hazel has a quiet, gentle disposition and has touched the heart of everyone who has met this lovely older girl. Hazel is currently being housed in the front office of our shelter where she is enjoying out-of-cage/kennel freedom. Hazel loves the soft beds/blankets and sharing snacks with our HSOV staff .. And she especially loves being with someone during the day to politely ask for attention and to be told what a good girl she is. Hazel is absolutely precious (and even more so when you watch her quietly taking a nap nestled in her bed/blankets. Hazel currently weighs 37.6 lbs and isn't a very large girl when you see her in person. Hazel is gentle/easy to walk on a leash when she is taken for short walks and/or bathroom breaks. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Hazel was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. We had posted her pictures on our HSOV Facebook pages the day she arrived and hoped that someone would recognize her. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this little sweetheart. Hazel would love to find a quiet home with someone who would be with her 24/7 and to be her new soulmate.

Story
Piglet (affectionately known as Piggie) is a handsome 8-year old male Pit Bull Terrier/Red Heeler mix who came to the HSOV during the overnight/early morning hours on January 26, 2024 when he was placed in one of our outside kennels near the front door of our shelter. Piglet was wearing a collar but, unfortunately, there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on his collar ... And he was not microchipped. No information was left with Piglet, so we don't know if someone found him as a stray or whether his owner left him with us for some unknown reason. Piglet has a white short smooth coat with beautiful red/brown ticking and a large brown patch on his right side, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with amber-colored eyes, a liver-colored nose, and large floppy ears. Piglet might possibly have some Pointer ancestors in his family tree since at first glance he appears to have physical traits of that breed .. But he never went 'on point' when HSOV Kennel Tech Bradyn Morris helped him with this photo session on the afternoon of February 3, 2024. Piggie was full of energy and ready for 'fun-and-games' or an extra-long walk instead of posing for boring still-life pictures, but he humored us with a few great poses. Piglet weighs 64.2 lbs and is strong on the other end of a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Piglet was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this magnificent boy. We've learned that Piglet was actually left in the outside kennel by his family :( .. And his real name is Brutus. An individual who was a friend of the family provided information about Brutus. He is NOT good with children (especially when food is involved), and he is NOT good with cats since he will cause mortal harm to them. Piglet aka Brutus is tolerant of other dogs. He does best with those who tend to leave him alone and aren't 'in his face'. We had listed Piglet's age as being 2-3 years old when he was first posted. We learned later that he was older than we originally believed and was likely 8-years old when he was left at our shelter. Piglet would love to find a fabulous home with someone special (possibly as an ‘only child’). He will be neutered before an adoption is finalized but could be fostered while he is awaiting that procedure. Piglet was neutered on March 23, 2026 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Odie is a cute 4-1/2 year old male Australian Cattle Dog/Red Heeler who was brought to HSOV on January 3, 2026 by a Good Samaritan who found him in the Walmart Parking Lot on Pike Street in Marietta Ohio. This little sweetheart has a white short smooth coat with tan/red ticking, a long tail, and an adorable face with tan shading around his hopeful dark brown eyes, a slender muzzle, and short tan 'folded-over' ears. Odie has a friendly personality. He was understandably a bit nervous when he was found wandering around a crowded parking lot and then found himself in a large floor crate in an unfamiliar place with people that he didn't yet realize were his new best friends (our HSOV shelter staff and kennel techs). Odie weighs 30 lbs and has already been neutered. We took preliminary photos of Odie in his floor crate and took outdoor photos of him on January 12th when HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver spent time with him that afternoon. Odie looked to Emily for loving attention and guidance/support. He loved being carried in Emily's arms like a baby. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Odie was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Sadly nobody called or came looking for this little guy. Odie went home with a foster family this afternoon (February 22, 2026) so that he can enjoy a real home environment instead of a small shelter floor crate, Odie is still available for adoption .. If you would like to make Odie an offer he can't refuse (i.e., a forever home), please complete an HSOV adoption application and submit for approval so that our HSOV managers can make arrangements for a meet-and-greet with Odie's foster family. If you have another dog, we highly suggest including him/her in the meet-and-greet with Odie since Odie is selective about which dogs he accepts into his circle of friends. Odie was returned by his temporary foster family on February 25th 2026 for a happy reason. Thanks to his foster family who offered Odie the hospitality of their home and for promoting his many attributes on Facebook, Odie went home with another foster family on February 26, 2026 who plans to adopt him and give him a permanent home if all goes well. Odie was officially adopted by his foster family on March 18, 2026. Update: Odie was returned to HSOV on April 14, 2026 because he was not good with the cat in his new family's home and was showing aggression toward the kitty .... So Odie is looking for another loving home where he would not have contact with cats.
