🐶 🐕 TOBY Male Border collie mix approximately 1.5 years, 42 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Toby is an approximately 1.5-year-old Border Collie mix weighing in at a lean 42 pounds with all the classic traits that make this breed so special—intelligent, observant, and deeply tuned in to his environment. He’s the kind of dog who notices everything, thinks before he acts, and forms meaningful connections with his people. At heart, Toby is a sensitive soul. He thrives in calm, predictable environments and would be happiest in a quieter home and neighborhood where life moves at a more relaxed pace. He enjoys peaceful neighborhood walks where he can take in the world without feeling overwhelmed, and he’s a wonderful car companion, riding quietly and contentedly by your side. Toby has a lovely balance of energy. He enjoys getting out for walks and exploring, but he also settles beautifully in the home and is more than happy to relax during downtime. He is both crate trained and house trained, making him an easy and comfortable dog to live with day-to-day. He is highly food motivated and has a medium toy drive, which makes training both fun and rewarding. He enjoys engaging with his person and thrives when given opportunities to learn and work alongside you. Toby has a wonderful ability to learn and adapt, making him well-suited to align with his person’s lifestyle and goals. Because of his strong Border Collie traits, Toby is looking for an experienced herding-breed owner who understands how to support a thoughtful, sensitive dog. He would do best as the only dog in the home and is not a dog park kind of guy. He prefers a smaller circle, a steady routine, and a person who will advocate for his comfort. For the right person, Toby will be an incredibly rewarding companion—loyal, intuitive, and quietly affectionate in his own special way. If you have a calm home, an appreciation for the Border Collie mind, and are looking for a dog who will truly bond with you, Toby may be your perfect match. TOBY is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved application and wish to inquire, send an email to: adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have not filled out an application, or your application is more than 1 year old, fill out an application here: (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) TOBY is fostering in Orangevale in Sacramento County, CA.

Story
🐶 🐕 BAXTER Male Border collie Approximately 1 Year, 40 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Meet BAXTER (aka BAX). You haven’t lived until you’ve met BAXTER. This boy is so friendly that he simply cannot “hold his licker.” BAXTER loves everyone: people as well as other dogs. When he first came into rescue, he learned quickly not to jump up on people (GOOD BOY). He plays with other friendly dogs, but his 1st choice is always people. If people are around, so is BAX. Being only a little over 1 year old and weighing about 40 lbs, BAXTER can still act like a typically rambunctious young border collie: all tongue and legs and with energy to spare. He will need a family who can give him a proper outlet for this energy and keen desire for fun and stimulating things to do. The old adage “a tired dog is a good dog” certainly applies to BAXTER. Even with all this energy, BAXTER can still relax with you indoors by your side or in his crate. BAXTER is as smart as he is beautiful. His soulful, chocolate-colored eyes will steal your heart. He has not shown any aggressive behavior in his foster home. He would do equally well with a buddy/sibling or as an only dog. Like most border collies he wants his person’s attention focused on him, and he can sometimes get jealous when other dogs get what he considers HIS belly rubs; that said, he is learning to be patient and wait for his turn. BAXTER thrives in the outdoors where he can run fast (in safe areas) and explore all the different smells. This helps to stimulate his BC brain during long walks and adventures. This boy loves the water and, of course, rolling in the dirt. Dry him off and, like a cat, he will clean himself up until next time. BAXTER is learning to walk nicely on the leash, but he will benefit from additional leash training. BAXTER is a very fast runner and with proper training his foster mom thinks he might be good agility partner or a fine candidate for one of the other fun dog sports. Like most all BC’s, BAXTER needs lots of daily exercise and stimulation to help him thrive both physically and mentally. When the weather was bad, his foster mom introduced him to “brain games” such as puzzles, snuffle mats, and indoor hide and seek. He has learned a few obedience commands like sit, lay down, and wait. BAX definitely knows what the word “no” means. Because BAXTER is still a youngster with a lot to learn, he needs someone with training experience and time to spend to help him become the best dog he can be. BAXTER is more on the submissive side, and he is very sensitive to harsh discipline; therefore, a firm but softer voice is best. He wants to do the right thing and to please. He is both treat and praise motivated, with a slight lean towards praise, so training sessions can be fun and rewarding. He does like car rides; he jumps right in and is a great traveler. BAXTER is crate-trained and sleeps quietly through the night, but he is ready to start the day when you get up. BAX is also house trained, and sometimes has whined to let his foster mom know when he needs to go outside to potty. BAXTER is looking for someone who has border collie experience, as well as time and energy, so he can become the best companion he can be. If you think you might have what it takes to be that special person for our handsome border collie boy, BAXTER is waiting to meet you. BAXTER is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about BAXTER, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. BAXTER is fostering in Nevada City, Nevada County, CA.

🐶 🐕 PERKINS (aka PERK) Special Needs Male Border collie Mix 7 years, 52 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Hi, my name is Perkins – just call me Perk - and I am about 7 years young. My Mom thinks I am a Border collie mixed with some type of guardian dog because I watch over my family and pack mates. I have notified them TWICE of rattlesnakes in our yard, barking loudly while keeping my pack mates at a safe distance away. Mom says I am a hero dog, as we have little kids and lots of dogs in our yard that need protection from dangers like that. Mom says I am special needs because I have some incontinence issues. I don't really know what that means. I let Mom and Dad know when I have to go potty, but when I am done, Mom says I leak. We've tried some different medicines and diagnostics, and Dad agrees it really isn't bad. When I hear the Velcro separate on my diaper I know its “free time” in the house. I stand still until I feel that little pat on my backside to signal it’s secure. Mom uses washable diapers, but I would probably do fine with other types as well. I don't like leaving my homestead, so when it's time for my checkup I get something special to help me relax. Everyone at the Vet’s office loves me and tells me what a good boy I am. Speaking of love, I love to chase a tennis ball. I may or may not bring it back depending on my whim at that moment. I also love to eat. Give me food, give me treats, YAY. I sit nice for my meals, which I always eat in my crate. I sleep quietly in my crate, but it's not my favorite place, and I will warn you if strangers are lurking outside because that’s my job. Oh, if you have that white stuff that’s cold, wet, and covers the ground that would be fun. I had a blast the one time it “snowed” here, that’s what my hoomans called it. Dad says he took the cutest video ever when I kept poking my nose out the doggy door, then retreated because what the heck is that? But once I was nudged out the door we had so much fun. I have been with my foster Mom and Dad for a few years and have helped with many of the other dogs and puppies that have come through our home, but I would also be fine as an only dog. I do enjoy playing at the other dog’s level. I wrestle with Skittles, because she is my size and she can take it, but I am gentIe with smaller dogs, or dogs not interested in that sort of thing. I am super friendly and loyal once I get to know you. I can be very vocal when I want something or when I am trying to warn you about something. I tolerate Mom's inside cats, but I don't like any cats in my yard. Mom says I need a cat-free environment for their benefit as well as mine (whatever that means). If you think you would be interested in me, and would like to learn even more about what makes me special, please submit an application so you can talk to my foster mom and dad (because we all know dogs can’t talk). Thank You, Perk PERKINS is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about PERKINS, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. PERKINS is fostering north of Corning in Tehama County, CA.
