🐶 🐕 COCO Female Border collie mix approximately 1 year, 50 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 COCO is a 50 pound, 1.5 year-old delight, with a tri-colored, easy care smooth coat. She is so sweet and affectionate with everyone she meets. She can be a little bit shy when she first meets someone new, but once she gets to know you, she is a sweet and affectionate cuddle bug. She likes to start her day with an early breakfast and a survey of the yard until her human sibling leaves for school. Then she hangs with her mom for a bit, waiting to go for a walk to a nearby field on leash, heeling nicely, of course. COCO especially loves her next morning ritual: walking and/or running off-leash on the ATV trail adjacent to the field. COCO is a typical young herding dog. She likes to chase anything that runs, but when she can’t catch whatever she’s chasing--and she never does—she often puts herself in her crate for a short nap; or she might find time to brush up on her training skills like “sit,” ”heel,” “off,” and “down”; playing with the other dogs is always on her daily agenda, and she is happy to submit when the play gets exuberant; and finally, an especially good day includes rolling around on the floor with the kids she lives with, even though she sometimes gets overly excited and plays a little too rough. COCO has learned a lot for a youngster. She is housebroken and crate-trained; she has a solid recall unless she sees something running and she sometimes forgets herself; she knows to heel on leash and to wait for a release word before going through the door or before eating. She sits nicely for a treat, and she’s working on “off” and “down.” She rides nicely in the car. She is very treat and food-motivated, which will help her new family continue with her training. Like many young dogs, she gets excited and jumps up on people sometimes, so she needs to continue to work on that behavior. What is COCO looking for in a forever family and home? She wants a family that will shower her with love and affection and who wants the same from her. She wants a family that will include her in their activities, and she wants to continue to learn through training how best to behave when she is included. She loves to run, so she wants a space where she can do that safely to her heart’s content. But she doesn’t want to be left outside alone. She’d rather be playing or doing something with her family: adults, other dogs, and/or kids, but probably not cats. She likes school-aged children, but maybe little ones would be too much; in her enthusiasm, she might knock into them. If you want a sweet, affectionate, active, trainable girl to share your adventures as well as your day-to-day at home life, COCO may be the just the right dog for you. COCO is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about COCO, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. Story
🐶 🐕 MATEO Male Border collie mix 1 year, 46 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 MATEO is a 1 year old, 46 pound red, white, and tan rough coat Border collie. His coat is long and soft and his golden eyes are striking. He is a very happy and active boy looking for a family to match his energy and capacity for love. MATEO loves people and food (the order is up for debate) more than anything else. While he gets along with, and loves running and playing with his foster mates, he mostly wants to be with his people. When out with the other dogs, and his foster dad shows up, Mateo immediately runs to him for acknowledgement, pets, and approval. Fast and athletic, he may be a candidate for agility or some other fun activity to exercise mind and body. He was very popular at the Vet’s office when in for his vaccinations. The staff could not get enough of him. MATEO is crate and house-trained. He has had no accidents since arriving at his foster home a few weeks ago. He lets us know if we are staying in bed too late, or not paying attention to him when he has to go. Mateo is a smart boy. He is doing well with the sit and crate commands. He does need leash work, and also could do better at not jumping up on people. He has been responding to a hand signal and “Sit” command when he is running towards us. He also used to bolt out of the crate when the door was opened, but has been doing very well with “Wait” and the release “OK.” He is also on high alert around cats. We are therefore looking for a home with no small children as well as a cat-free environment. All-in-All MATEO has been an excellent house guest. He will do just as well in a home with or without other dogs. The important thing is to keep him engaged, work with him in short, meaningful training sessions, and allow him to be with you as much as possible. His love of people, treats, and desire to please should make those training sessions fun and rewarding. MATEO does travel well in his crate, but has not shown an interest in toys as yet. He loves to chase a ball (he sort of brings it back in your general vicinity), rinse and repeat. He’d really appreciate it if he could snuggle with you on the couch and receive lots of pets. You know he’s all-in when he rolls over to “allow” you to give him belly rubs. If you are looking for a young, active partner that will be a blast to be around, Mateo may just be the boy for you. MATEO is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about MATEO, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. MATEO is fostering north of Corning in Tehama County, CA.

🐶 🐕 PERKINS (aka PERK) Special Needs Male Border collie Mix 7 years, 52 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Hi, my name is Perkins – just call me Perk - and I am about 7 years young. My Mom thinks I am a Border collie mixed with some type of guardian dog because I watch over my family and pack mates. I have notified them TWICE of rattlesnakes in our yard, barking loudly while keeping my pack mates at a safe distance away. Mom says I am a hero dog, as we have little kids and lots of dogs in our yard that need protection from dangers like that. Mom says I am special needs because I have some incontinence issues. I don't really know what that means. I let Mom and Dad know when I have to go potty, but when I am done, Mom says I leak. We've tried some different medicines and diagnostics, and Dad agrees it really isn't bad. When I hear the Velcro separate on my diaper I know its “free time” in the house. I stand still until I feel that little pat on my backside to signal it’s secure. Mom uses washable diapers, but I would probably do fine with other types as well. I don't like leaving my homestead, so when it's time for my checkup I get something special to help me relax. Everyone at the Vet’s office loves me and tells me what a good boy I am. Speaking of love, I love to chase a tennis ball. I may or may not bring it back depending on my whim at that moment. I also love to eat. Give me food, give me treats, YAY. I sit nice for my meals, which I always eat in my crate. I sleep quietly in my crate, but it's not my favorite place, and I will warn you if strangers are lurking outside because that’s my job. Oh, if you have that white stuff that’s cold, wet, and covers the ground that would be fun. I had a blast the one time it “snowed” here, that’s what my hoomans called it. Dad says he took the cutest video ever when I kept poking my nose out the doggy door, then retreated because what the heck is that? But once I was nudged out the door we had so much fun. I have been with my foster Mom and Dad for a few years and have helped with many of the other dogs and puppies that have come through our home, but I would also be fine as an only dog. I do enjoy playing at the other dog’s level. I wrestle with Skittles, because she is my size and she can take it, but I am gentIe with smaller dogs, or dogs not interested in that sort of thing. I am super friendly and loyal once I get to know you. I can be very vocal when I want something or when I am trying to warn you about something. I tolerate Mom's inside cats, but I don't like any cats in my yard. Mom says I need a cat-free environment for their benefit as well as mine (whatever that means). If you think you would be interested in me, and would like to learn even more about what makes me special, please submit an application so you can talk to my foster mom and dad (because we all know dogs can’t talk). Thank You, Perk PERKINS is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. Story
🐶 🐕 SHELBY Female Border collie mix approximately 3 Years, 55 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Meet our SHELBY, a very special girl who has come a long way from her beginnings in rescue. She is ready to find her special person(s) who will provide the home and love she dreams of and certainly deserves, a home at which she can thrive and blossom. SHELBY is coming up on her 3rd birthday (May). She has a medium length silky red and white coat and weighs about 55 lbs. Her golden eyes seem to look into your very soul searching for love. SHELBY is looking for her person, or perhaps a couple, who has experience with dogs who are a bit reserved around new people. She is a bit slow to warm up, but once that light goes on she will lick your hands as if to say, “Oh, you’re not so bad.” When meeting new people SHELBY must be allowed to warm up to them at her own pace. Some light encouragement doesn’t hurt; take proper steps and it does not take her long to get curious and stay close-by. SHELBY wants nothing more than to be with you wherever you are. If you are inside she wants to be inside. If she is going outside she wants you to accompany her. Additional confidence building would be beneficial for this girl. We have found that she is more comfortable meeting people indoors versus outdoors. SHELBY’S “love language” is all about physical touch and sweet talk. When you pet her she will flop over on her back to get belly rubs. After she has gotten to know you, she is a great cuddle bug. SHELBY has shown no aggressive behavior towards people or other dogs, but does get frightened when other dogs come running up to her. She was also visibly uncomfortable around small children. A quiet home with minimal distractions would be best so SHELBY can excel in her new environment. She is looking a home with one or two people, of whom she can give every bit of her attention and love. SHELBY will give you her all and in return all she asks is that you give her your all. She really aims to please. We are very proud of how far she has come. SHELBY is house trained. She caught on very quickly to taking care of business in the great outdoors. She’s learned some basic commands like sit, stay (at the door), drop it, leave it, come, lie down, and wait. Since she is food / treat motivated, short training sessions are a lot of fun. When her foster mom leaves the house, SHELBY settles down and waits for her to return. Her energy level is not super active, but she DOES look forward to her long daily walks. That said, SHELBY is just as content to relax with you as she is excited to go for those long walks. Shelby really loves, loves, loves car rides and she will jump right in. She is a great traveler. Because SHELBY was quickly attached to her foster mom, she was allowed to run and explore off leash (in safe areas, of course). Her recall has proven to be a reliable 100%. She always has an eye out for you. When walking and exploring off leash she will constantly return to check in with you. SHELBY loves appropriate chew bones and she does not shred stuffed toys though she’ll sometimes carry one around in her mouth. She does tend to get jealous when her foster siblings get attention because with SHELBY it’s all about her. She does not like to share what she considers hers with her foster siblings. This is another reason we think she would be best as an only dog. SHELBY is not an obnoxious barker however she will sometimes alert bark. While she does not pull on walks, additional leash training would be a benefit. All in all, SHELBY has made some great progress while in her foster home. And we must stress that SHELBY is still a “work in progress.” With additional confidence building you will see her blossom even more. We are so happy with the hurdles she has already conquered to get to where she is today. We realize there are many “good” homes out there for these resilient dogs. We are very attached to this girl so we want to find not just a good home, but the “right” home for our SHELBY. We are looking for a person who will be truly dedicated to continuing the work that we have started with her. Someone perhaps retired, with maybe one additional person in the home to provide consistency and stability, who will understand that SHELBY will need time to adjust to a new home and environment. If you have the time, patience and most of all desire to bring out more of SHELBY’S true character, you will realize what a truly amazingly sweet dog she is. If you feel you can give SHELBY the love, training, and support she will need then we would be interested in discussing her further with you. SHELBY is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about SHELBY, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. SHELBY is fostering in Nevada City in Nevada County, CA.

🐶 🐕 MISS TABITHA Female Border collie mix approximately 4 years, 50 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 MISS TABITHA is a 4-yr-old, 50#, rough coat border collie. Her favorite thing is her people and after that a good chew or plush toy. She is an easy going girl who gets along well with dog of all sizes but she sometimes needs a few minutes to warm up to a new dog. In no time she is best pals with her new friends. She also gets along with cats and does not chase the cat in her foster home. She is fine with kids and greets all the people she meets with a wag and a smile. TABITHA knows basic commands and will come when called. She is very food and praise motivated and will be easy to train. She likes to run and play with her foster pack. She will flip plush toys around in the air and she will chase a ball. She is also content to just hang out with her foster mom. She sometimes likes to go lay under the bed or behind the couch. She is a medium energy girl who will sometimes have bursts of activity and run zoomies. Her foster does not see her as a good candidate for dog sports. Her gentle nature might not do well in that type of environment. TABITHA was treated for heartworm disease starting in December of 2025. She has completed the treatment and is now ready for adoption. She will need to be on heartworm preventative every month for the rest of her life (as with all dogs). TABITHA can sometimes be a sensitive girl. She doesn't like sudden noises or raised voices. Generally she is a very happy and friendly girl, but she will need a home where she is treated gently. She would be fine with other dogs or as an only dog. She would likely be happy to be the one getting all the attention, and all the snacks. She is on the submissive side with other dogs. She mostly ignores the cats in her foster home and would do fine with dog savvy cats in the house. TABITHA is fully potty trained and uses the dog door when she needs to go out. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night and is fine being crated for a couple hours when foster mom is away. She was a little nervous in the car at first, but now she jumps in and rides just fine. She is an adaptable girl if given some time and patience. TABITHA is a very special girl with a heart of gold. Everyone who meets her loves her. She is truly a kind hearted dog. She would do best in a home where she gets regular exercise, where her people are around most of the time and will give her extra patience and a soft touch. She will repay you 10 fold in love and devotion. TABITHA is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about TABITHA, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. TABITHA is fostering in Folsom in Sacramento County, CA.

Story
