HIGHLIGHTS:Needs patient, experienced adoptersNeeds an active homeCan go home with another dog or alonePrefers to go to a home with a fenced-in yard Livy is a stunning 2-year-old Australian Shepherd weighing 30 pounds. Livy is a wonderful dog who LOVES being around her humans. She is affectionate and playful. If given the choice, she would play fetch for hours! We really think she missed her calling as a ball fetcher for Major League Baseball. She also loves treats but can be picky about sharing them. She is insecure about high value resources like bones or especially tasty food being taken from her, but the NMDR behavior team will talk you through what to do to manage this behavior and help her feel more secure.Livy is extremely intelligent and athletic. She would do best in an active home where she can join you on your outdoor adventures! She walks wonderfully on leash and really enjoys being outside. She'd also thrive in a home with a fenced yard where she can get her daily fix of fetch and fresh air. She would benefit from plenty of mental stimulation like puzzle toys, agility training, or frozen kongs to challenge that brilliant brain of hers. We like to say that she needs a job because she is so intelligent, focused, and determined. Livy tends to feel more comfortable around women, but does warm up fairly quickly to men if they bribe her with snacks. Once she has accepted you into her circle, Livy wiggles her butt with joy at the sight of you and wants to be scratched and cuddled. She could do well as the only dog in a home or would be happy to gain some canine siblings, especially if they're energetic and will play with her! Due to her insecurities around high value resources, Livy will need any children in the home to be old enough to respect her boundaries (14+).Livy is the sweetest girl and has so much potential just waiting to be unlocked in a loving, understanding home. If you would like to meet Livy, please apply at NMDR.org. We think you will fall in love like we have!- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. * Needs a 5ft fence* Needs a home with older children or adults onlyRazzy is a gorgeous 6-year-old red and white Miniature Australian Shepherd. She weighs 25 pounds. She is a very sweet girl with gorgeous eyes. Razzy is benefitting from life in one of our wonderful foster homes. She loves being outside and is very curious. Razzy enjoys exploring and she loves long walks. When not outdoors, her favorite activity is napping. Razzy would make an awesome hiking and napping buddy.Though she was quite fearful when she arrived at NMDR, she has made a tremendous amount of progress. While Razzy is still a very shy and timid girl with new people, she thoroughly enjoys pets and belly rubs from her human friends. Razzy walks on leash beautifully and is potty trained. On walks, she often will stop and look at her foster and then wait for pets. It's adorable. She loves the snow and will roll around in it on walks and in her yard.Razzy will continue to gain confidence in a calm environment with a more confident dog buddy to show her the joys of being a pet. A sturdy 5-foot-high fence will allow her to play in a safe and secure area as she is a flight risk. We hope you are the right person or family for this precious girl. If you agree, please apply to meet her at NMDR.org.- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. Story
#### Look at this face and those eyes! She could not be more beautiful! Tipping the scales at 26 pounds, Cleo is a 2 year old Miniature Australian Shepherd Mix. She is a playful girl. She loves playing with other dogs unless a dog is too rough a player for her tastes. She prefers dogs who are her size or smaller and not too wild. Cleo likes to be close to her dog friends. They give her a sense of safety. She prefers smaller play groups with fewer humans. She is shy and skittish and new noises are scary. She will need some support with sounds we take for granted in a home: tv, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, etc. She must have an adult only home as well. She is a flight risk so her new people will need to have a securely fenced yard. We will give you good information on how to keep her safely in your home. She must have a more confident dog sibling who is her size or smaller and not too exuberant in play. Cleo and her sibling need a securely fenced yard with at least a 6 foot high fence.Cleo is getting used to familiar people. She can be a total wiggle butt when she is feeling safe. She is gaining more confidence daily and is now slowly approaching people for treats. Once she is there, she will eat them from their hands. While she is easy to catch, she is very squirmy when carried. Cleo needs a patient and calm household who will allow her to settle in at her own pace. She is very cautious but she is growing and we are hopeful that will continue at her new home. ####This handsome guy is Ollie. He is an almost three-year-old Miniature Australian Shepherd weighing 22 pounds. Ollie is working on trust and socialization skills with the support of our Behavior/Enrichment Team and they have discovered he is a musician at heart - he looooves music. This softie loves to be serenaded. When his favorite staff members turn on the radio and sing to him, he relaxes, lies down, and takes it all in. Ollie also likes to get in a little screen time here and there and currently his favorite channel is DOGTV. Ollie needs a home with experienced, patient adopters. With the right environment and a loving family, Ollie will blossom, and will love becoming a treasured member of a forever home filled with love and companionship. He is coming up to quite a few volunteers now for treats, and he has even started accepting gentle scratches on the chest. If you would like to meet sweet Ollie, please apply at NMDR.org-------Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. Because some of our dogs are very under socialized, they may not be a good fit for young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, many of these dogs come around with patience and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
Meet Rainy - a sweet, shy 20lb Miniature Australian Shepherd. Rainy can be timid around new people, and needs time to build trust. Once she is comfortable around you, she wags her nub tail enthusiastically and approaches for treats and affection. Rainy went to a temporary foster home where we learned that she thrives in a home environment. Her fosters described her as extremely intelligent, curious, and independent. She picked up on potty training quickly and enjoyed people watching from the backyard. She even appeared to be watching television with her foster parents! Rainy is leash trained and enjoys going on walks with people she is comfortable with. However, she will still need a 5ft secure fence to keep her safe and secure. We think Rainy would prefer to live with another dog to help her feel more comfortable, but it is not required. She could live with older children who will respect her space. If you're ready to meet this sweet girl and give her the chance to blossom in a home, please visit our website and fill out an application.Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. Story
Meet Gunner, an adorable male Mini Aussie weighing 31 pounds. Gunner's curiosity shines through as he cautiously approaches visitors at his kennel gate, though he may retreat if startled by loud noises or quick movements. While he's not yet interested in treats, Gunner enjoys being petted, especially after spending some time with someone willing to sit and patiently earn his trust. Gunner thrives outside while playing with his dog friends. He is very playful with other dogs and would do best in a home with another energetic dog to romp around with and give him confidence. Gunner eagerly awaits his chance to find a forever home at the National Mill Dog Rescue.- - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization.
