Story
In Salida, CO - My name is Atau (Ah-tay-you) and I am a very special girl looking for a very special furever home. I am a deaf dog who loves my foster humans with all my heart. I am a very smart dog, I love the outdoors, especially the smells and I am eager to please. I am just under 2 years old. I need a very special family with enough love and patience to continue my training and help me learn this thing called life. I wasn’t properly socialized during my first couple years of life, so I didn’t get to learn the things that puppies get to learn…like the feeling of gentle raindrops on my back or not to chase cars. My foster mom has taught me so much in a short period of time because I am such a smart girl. I need a family that will help me reach the tremendous potential that I have. Oh, my foster mom says that I can’t overstate just how much progress I have made in the short 3 months I have been with them. While I play and take walks with one of my foster sisters, I am sometimes reactive/aggressive with other dogs, but continued medication and training will probably help me get over this with time. I am already showing signs of improvement. I would really like to chase the cats, but foster mom is teaching me that I can’t really do that. I will need to be the only animal in my furever house. I would also do best with older kids because I am a strong dog and I sometimes forget my strength. I love to be active, and I love to be around my humans as much as possible. If you are the very special family I am looking for, I would love to meet you. Atue is being fostered in Colorado with Australian Shepherds Furever a PACFA lisc and 501c3. Please message asfmtnrep@gmail.com Here is the link to our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new family. All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.

Story
Courtesy Post: Owner Surrender/Rehoming- Avon, CO Jax is a 5 year old Australian Shepherd and weighs 39 lbs. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, and on heartworm prevention. Jax is nervous around strangers and fearful of other dogs. No small children, due to his reactivity! He is good with older children. Jax hasn’t been tested around cats. He nipped the pants of a window washer who came to their house. He bit their 1 year old granddaughter on the face after the child came up from behind and pulled on him. The owner is surrendering him because of this bite. He needs to find a new furever home as soon as possible! If you think you can provide a great home for Jax, please contact the owner listed below. There is a $150 rehoming fee to assure good folks with good intentions. This fee will be donated to Australian Shepherds Furever for their assistance in placing Jax. Please contact Constance (connibouchard@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Rescued dogBiography Important Information Please read! If you are interested in me after reading about me, please visit my site, http://www.breederadoptions.org and follow the instructions. The majority of the dogs we rescue, mostly breeder dogs, have lived their entire lives in less-than-ideal conditions so will need to be socialized, house and leash trained. Most have never lived in a house, walked on a leash, had a treat or sat in a lap. For many of them, their feet have never touched the ground after living for years on wire until they arrive at our main facility where they are evaluated, groomed and given vet care. Most of these dogs are not socialized and need to be cornered to be picked up, so are not suitable for people with physical disabilities or suffer from PTSD. They need folks who will make them the center of their world and help them learn to trust before even attempting to train.  Please do not apply if you do not meet the requirements of the dogs we rescue.  However, they will learn with time, love, patience and most of all, commitment. You must have an ample supply of all of these to reap the rewards of watching these very special dogs become your wonderful companion. We state any known health issues, all are altered unless there is a medical reason not to, which we will advise, any known medical issues addressed, are microchipped, are UTD on all vaccines and have been checked out by at least one veterinarian, usually two. We do not guarantee the health of any of our rescued dogs. The dogs we rescue have lived with other dogs all of their lives and most get along with other dogs. We state if they are dog aggressive. We require a permanent, full-time parent. That means you must be able to spend the majority of your time with your new companion to socialize and train. We do not, under any circumstances, place them in homes with young children as they have not been exposed to children and we do not know how they will react. Please do not waste your time or ours if you are not prepared to adopt within 2 weeks and you are not willing to pick the dog up at its location. Hi! My name is Smokey, and I am a gorgeous Mini Australian girl who was born 9/6/18, and I weigh 26 pounds. I need a large yard or acreage to run on and a sibling to learn the ropes from would be ideal. I do need an experienced adopter who knows how to help me learn all about this big new world. If you have been waiting for a gorgeous Mini Aussie, please ask for me on your application to http://www.breederadoptions.org. Love, Smokey 112823-02  March 26, 2024, 11:20 pm

HIGHLIGHTS:Needs patient, experienced adoptersNeeds an active homeCan go home with another dog or alonePrefers to go to a home with a fenced-in yard, but can go to a home without a yardLivy is a stunning 2-year-old Australian Shepherd weighing 30 pounds. Livy is a wonderful dog who LOVES being around her humans. She is affectionate and playful. If given the choice, she would play fetch for hours! We really think she missed her calling as a ball fetcher for Major League Baseball. She also loves treats but can be picky about sharing them. She is insecure about high value resources like bones or especially tasty food being taken from her, but the NMDR behavior team will talk you through what to do to manage this behavior and help her feel more secure.Livy is extremely intelligent and athletic. She would do best in an active home where she can join you on your outdoor adventures! She walks wonderfully on leash and really enjoys being outside. She'd also thrive in a home with a fenced yard where she can get her daily fix of fetch and fresh air. She would benefit from plenty of mental stimulation like puzzle toys, agility training, or frozen kongs to challenge that brilliant brain of hers. We like to say that she needs a job because she is so intelligent, focused, and determined. Livy tends to feel more comfortable around women, but does warm up fairly quickly to men if they bribe her with snacks. Once she has accepted you into her circle, Livy wiggles her butt with joy at the sight of you and wants to be scratched and cuddled. She could do well as the only dog in a home or would be happy to gain some canine siblings, especially if they're energetic and will play with her! Due to her insecurities around high value resources, Livy will need any children in the home to be old enough to respect her boundaries (14+).Livy is the sweetest girl and has so much potential just waiting to be unlocked in a loving, understanding home. If you would like to meet Livy, please apply at NMDR.org. We think you will fall in love like we have!- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
#### Look at this face and those eyes! She could not be more beautiful! Tipping the scales at 26 pounds, Cleo is a 2 year old Miniature Australian Shepherd Mix. She is a playful girl. She loves playing with other dogs unless a dog is too rough a player for her tastes. She prefers dogs who are her size or smaller and not too wild. Cleo likes to be close to her dog friends. They give her a sense of safety. She prefers smaller play groups with fewer humans. She is shy and skittish and new noises are scary. She will need some support with sounds we take for granted in a home: tv, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, etc. She must have an adult only home as well. She is a flight risk so her new people will need to have a securely fenced yard. We will give you good information on how to keep her safely in your home. She must have a more confident dog sibling who is her size or smaller and not too exuberant in play. Cleo and her sibling need a securely fenced yard with at least a 6 foot high fence.Cleo is getting used to familiar people. She can be a total wiggle butt when she is feeling safe. She is gaining more confidence daily and is now slowly approaching people for treats. Once she is there, she will eat them from their hands. While she is easy to catch, she is very squirmy when carried. Cleo needs a patient and calm household who will allow her to settle in at her own pace. She is very cautious but she is growing and we are hopeful that will continue at her new home. If you would like to meet this precious girl, please apply at NMDR.org.- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. Story
Meet Millie, a 27 pound girl! Though shy, Millie actively works with our dedicated staff to build courage and improve social interactions. When she first arrived here at our facility, she was pretty shut down. But another confident Aussie here at NMDR (Pickles) has recently taught her how to play, and boy does she love playing with her dog friends now! Millie's dog friend of choice would be one who is fairly calm and respects her personal space, but who will also play with her when she's ready.Though she's still learning that human touch can be enjoyable, she gets very excited to see her human friends. She play bows at familiar people and does the most adorable zoomies, grinning and hopping around joyfully. Millie is not yet leash trained and is a flight risk, so she will need a home with a 5 foot secure fence. We recommend a home with no young children due to her skittish nature. Millie will thrive in a quiet, patient home with another confident dog to help her feel more comfortable. In time, we think Millie will become a goofy, lively dog that is sure to bring a smile to your face!If you would like a chance to be Millie's family and watch her blossom, please apply at NMDR.org.- - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization.
