Story
Meet Magellan! He had been living on the street for a few months when someone asked if we could take him in. He’s sooooo happy and bouncy! He weighs 51 pounds and is about a year old, still a baby with sparkling white teeth! He is GREAT with the other dogs in the yard, but plays a little too rough for smaller dogs. He has a chill disposition and isn’t dominant with the other dogs. Magellan is super smart and did great during his brief time in a temporary home. He learned sit and down quickly, and he does well in his crate. He loves to cuddle. Magellan loves to play! He would be a great addition to any home!IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.June 22, 2024, 12:36 pm

HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please contact Cassandra at cjohnson@arl-iowa.org.---- Came from a situation where he did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age. Because of this, he may struggle with new situations, may show uncertainty with novel everyday objects, may need help understanding leashes, and will need patience and structure with housetraining. - A very sweet guy with lots of potential; just needs the right family to show him love and help him open up! - Prefers to initiate petting and other contact with the people he trusts most, he loves to get pets all over.  Loves spending time with people and if you leave, he is very excited to see you when you return - Likes following his people around and just observing everything - Treats have been great for him to make new people friends! - Has learned how to walk on a leash while in his foster home and very much enjoys going for walks.  He has not had any experience with being tied up outside so needs a fenced in yard - Is deaf and relies on the other dogs in his foster home to know when to go outside and come in side (would likely benefit from a dog friend in his new home to help him understand what's going on) - Enjoys playing with other dogs in his foster home. He is very nice and respectful to other dogs - Sleeps on a dog bed in his foster parents room at night - Has done well with house training in his foster home with their current schedule The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Blue Merle Weight: 56.7 Age: 2yrs 3mths 0wks

Story
- LOVES water and enjoys laying in her kiddie pool; even enjoys baths! - Does well on a leash - Prefers to explore and do their own thing here in the shelter, but will likely open up more once they're in a home environment and have had time to decompress - Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for them (mature home recommended) - May enjoy like minded dog friends (dog intro recommended)- The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by request. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please contact Cassandra at cjohnson@arl-iowa.org. ---- Great dog with tons of potential who is looking for a special family who will continue working with him to help him gain confidence and learn that life is full of great things. If you're up to the challenge, read on! - Came from an environment where he did not get the normal socialization that most puppies get, so the world is still a very scary place for him - Has come a long way in the weeks we have been working with him, and will take treats from people he has a relationship with - We are requiring a fenced yard to ensure he stays safe and secure as he has had no experience with being on leash though he is making slow progress! - We've seen lots of progress, but things such as petting from strangers, leashing up, and anything a "normal" dog would like can still be quite scary for him, so he will need continued help over time from his new family - Leaving interactions 100% up to him and using treats as rewards are great ways to gain him trust; he LOVES having the choice to interact and have his space when he feels uncomfortable - Has done best with other dogs and would really benefit from a calm, confident dog friend in his new home so he can follow their lead and build confidence by watching them navigate daily life - Needs a teens-and-up home right now, as young children are way too much for him. A mature, structured home would be perfect! - Is likely hearing impaired, but is learning some hand signaling in his foster home - Since he's still learning to live with people, vet visits will have to be approached differently, so it will be important to talk with your veterinarian about ways to help him be most comfortable - Looking for a predictable home with very patient people who understand that it will take him not days but weeks to become completely comfortable. If you're willing to give him that time, you'll see, just as we have, that he is worth the wait! It will be incredibly rewarding to watch him become more trusting every day! The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed.
