Story
Edward is a mini Aussie breeder release born July 2019. Edward is a bit shy and would like another dog to help him with the transition into life in the real world. He is a sweet happy boy, but has never walked on a leash - although he is trying to learn. He would like a home with a fenced yard so he doesn't need to work on leash training at the same time as potty training in a new home. Edward should go to a home that has experience with Aussies so his needs for order and organization will be appreciated. He hopes he can find someone patient and kind to help him learn how to be a happy dog living the good life. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Argo arrived in November 2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota. He is about 3 to 4 years old and does have a lot of the trademark features of mixed breed dogs from Reservations - "Rezzies", as they are affectionately known in rescue. Like many Rezzies, he could be a mix of cattle dog and German and/or Australian shepherd, just to name a few possible options. He's a handsome and very active dog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Argo has had some basic training and will require a lot of consistent exercise. This is of the utmost importance in order to keep him well balanced and happy. He is ready for action all the time but gets serious when leashed. He does pretty well on leash walks and loves car rides. He's an affectionate guy, too, who thinks nothing of climbing into a person's lap if he gets the chance. Argo would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. He's NOT a dog for apartment living. He's looking for an ADULT only, single person home as he tends to bond very closely to his person and becomes quite protective. No cats for him. He's incredibly smart and would be a lot of fun to train! Watch a short TikTok video featuring Argo below! https://www.tiktok.com/@happy.critter.ranch/video/7199457883958955310 NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 30, 2025, 6:43 pm

Story
Fern is a super cuddly, loving girl who is excited to greet anyone and everyone. She's so smart and loves to love. She is just a little over a year old. She was previously in a home where her needs (energy, food, play) were not being met. She has made wonderful progress in regards of commands and weight! Fern is potty trained, has great recall (her name, come here), understands down, lay down, no, leave it, sit, and wait. She has lots of energy and is ready for walks, runs, and games. Fern needs an experienced, patient, and loving home to help her continue learning. Fern struggles with separation anxiety, destructive chewing (specifically when alone or bored), digging, and leash training (she gets very excited to smell!)

Scout follows his foster mom around the house no matter what she’s doing. He enjoys playing with his foster sister but can also entertain himself with toys and chew bones. He will bark at unfamiliar sounds or when someone is at the door, but he is easily redirected. Scout uses the doggy door about 75% of the time, and full potty training is still in progress. During the day, he is sectioned off in the kitchen and sleeps in his doggy bed at night. He loves being held and getting attention and is an incredibly sweet and loyal boy. About Me: Hi, I’m Scout, or as my foster mom calls me, Scoot, because I love to scoot right up to you and cuddle for hours. I’m a well-behaved boy who loves to play, cuddle, and stay right by your side. I get along great with my foster sister, a 7-year-old retriever, and I make friends easily with other dogs. I love meeting new people, but my favorite thing to do is cuddle on the couch or bed and take a nap. I may bark at unfamiliar sounds, but I’m easily redirected. I enjoy exploring new things and places, and I even like car rides and baths. If you’re looking for your new best buddy, I’m looking for my fur-ever home.  January 6, 2026, 7:07 pm

Story
Bear is a 4 year old Australian Shepherd who is incredibly smart, affectionate, and full of energy. He is the kind of dog who wants to be involved in everything you do and will happily soak up all the love and attention you can give. When his needs are met, he is a super cuddly companion who truly enjoys being close to his people. As an Australian Shepherd, Bear needs an active lifestyle and plenty of mental and physical outlets. He would thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard where he can run, play, and burn off energy, along with daily walks and ongoing engagement. An experienced, very active home that understands working breeds would be the best fit for him. Bear must go to a home with no kids. He does live with another dog. He does very well at daycare and boarding. On leash, he can be reactive and will bark at other dogs, as well as at the TV and out the window, so continued structure and guidance will help him succeed. Bear is looking for a committed home that can give him the exercise, enrichment, and affection he deserves. In return, he will give endless loyalty, cuddles, and companionship. Adoption fee is $350+tax, please apply at www.campcompanion.org

Story
Meet Theodore Roosevelt, better known as Teddy. Teddy is a one year old Australian Shepherd who is very much a classic example of the breed. He is intelligent, energetic, driven, and always looking for a job. Teddy is not a couch potato and will thrive in a home that understands the physical and mental needs of an Australian Shepherd. As a young dog, Teddy will need continued training, structure, and clear boundaries. He is smart and eager, but that intelligence means he needs guidance to channel his energy appropriately. Consistent training and enrichment will be key to helping Teddy become his best self. Teddy would do best in a home with prior Australian Shepherd or similar herding breed experience. An active household that enjoys training, outdoor activities, and providing mental stimulation will be essential for his success. He is not an ideal fit for a first time dog owner or a low activity home. With the right environment, Teddy has the potential to be an incredible companion for someone who appreciates the wonderful, challenging, and rewarding nature of the breed. Adoption fee is $350+tax, please apply at www.campcompanion.org
