Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Argo arrived in November 2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota. He is about 4 to 5 years old and does have a lot of the trademark features of mixed breed dogs from Reservations - "Rezzies", as they are affectionately known in rescue. Like many Rezzies, he could be a mix of cattle dog and German and/or Australian shepherd, just to name a few possible options. He's a handsome and very active dog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Argo has had some basic training and will require a lot of consistent exercise. This is of the utmost importance in order to keep him well balanced and happy. He is ready for action all the time but gets serious when leashed. He does pretty well on leash walks and loves car rides. He's an affectionate guy, too, who thinks nothing of climbing into a person's lap if he gets the chance. Argo would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. He's NOT a dog for apartment living. He's looking for an ADULT only, single person home as he tends to bond very closely to his person and becomes quite protective. No cats for him. He's incredibly smart and would be a lot of fun to train! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 19, 2026, 4:07 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Eddie is an adorable (slightly chunky) mini Aussie who was a breeder release last fall. He is a July 2019 model, and is a happy calm boy with that famous 'Aussie Wiggle Butt' when excited. He is still shy around new things and people but with a trusted human by his side he continues to excel. His foster mom is working hard with him teaching how to walk on a leash, sit, down, recall, going up and down stairs (yes, this is new to him), potty training refresher, how to socialize with other dogs, people and more as this is a whole new world for him. He has started beginner obedience classes, Eddie is super smart and is picking everything up quickly, continued training with a new family would be highly recommended. Eddie is cautiously curious about cats, and he likes other dogs, (overly excited puppies and young dogs carry too much energy and he tends to shy away from them). Small and young energetic children would be too much for this shy guy, a quieter household would be best. he needs a patient person that understands him, his past and that will take things a his pace. This little Aussie has quickly adapted to the routine of his foster home, potty times, breakfast and supper times, and the best time of day - Treat Time! Cheese is his new found discovery and he will do pretty much anything if a cheese reward is in it for him! Eddie stands like a pro for baths, ear cleaning, clipping with scissors, and feet handling. He loves being brushed, butt scratches, car rides and more cheese! Eddie wears a belly wrap when loose in the house with other inmates as he likes to mark things. Perhaps with training and close monitoring this can be a thing of the past, he does not mind wearing it and does not wear it when in his crate, which he keeps clean. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
Meet Rocky!Rocky came to Paws and Claws on an urgent case when his owner went to the hospital and was not going to come back out. He came here with a few other dogs, and while his owner loved them dearly, they were not kept in very good condition. Rocky is severely overweight and it makes it hard for him to walk right. He is on a weight loss journey and his new family will need to be committed to helping him on this journey. Rocky had a much needed groom and dental done when he arrived. While he lost a lot of teeth - he is much more comfortable now. Rocky has lived with other dogs and done well with that. His history with cats is unknown, but given his quiet disposition it is believed he would do well with them too. Rocky would prefer a quiet home without a lot of traffic or young kids as this can be too much for him. He would love to be in a home where he can lounge with his people, nap his days away, and go on some leisurely walks when the weather is nice. If you think Roky could be a good fit for you, apply online today! Adoption applications can be found on the homepage of our online website. Adoption fee is $300 + $30 microchip fee + tax
