We got her as a puppy and she has been with us for just over six years, but we are moving this spring and unfortunately cannot take our dogs with us.Ember is:• Friendly with other dogs, cats, and children• Active and loves to explore the outdoors• Very food motivated and eager to learn• A "guard dog" who patrols the window• Cuddly and loves to relax on the couch• Up to date on shots and vet visitsShe likely needs a place to run, or someone to go out on runs with, as we haven't been able to exercise her as much lately as she needs. My name is Bindi and I’m a playful pup with a big heart. I was picked up as a stray in Mankato, and for a while, I didn’t have a family to call my own. But then, a kind foster family took me in and started showing me what it means to be loved and cared for. When I first arrived, my fur was in ‘ruff’ shape—dirty and full of mats. Now I’m clean, brushed, and feeling like a brand new dog! I love hanging out with my fellow dog friends here. We chase each other around the yard and play with all the toys (which is my favorite thing to do!). Every day, I’m learning something new about being a part of a family. It’s so much better than life on the streets. I even went on my first hiking adventure and walked in a lake for the first time.  I can’t wait to find my forever home where I can share all the love and fun I have to give! From the foster family:  When Bindi first arrived in our home, he was in pretty rough shape—dirty, matted, and clearly in need of some TLC. After a good bath and lots of brushing, we saw such a transformation in him. Bindi quickly became a playful, affectionate companion who seems genuinely grateful for every bit of kindness he receives. Now that he’s clean and mat-free, he’s able to focus on being a dog: playing with our other dogs, exploring the house, and discovering the joys of toys and treats. Bindi is currently learning to potty outside and is making great progress. He’s incredibly gentle with everyone he meets and was so patient while we worked through his mats. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lex is an approximately 2 to 3 year old mystery mixed breed who arrived from the city pound on 7/5/2025. This great boy has now been at MCHS for over a year. We're still not sure which breeds are in his genetic makeup, but there could be some kind of shepherd and other herding breeds, like border collie. He has been fully vetted and microchipped and his fee is $150. Lex is a little bit shy at first but becomes a total lovebug within a few minutes. Even though he is an adult, he is playful and has the energy of a young puppy. He will need some basic training but seems very ready and willing to please. Lex will need a lot of exercise to keep him happy and well balanced. We're thinking he would do best as the only dog in the home, at least until he gets some good training under his belt. Smaller animals are most likely a no for him. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. Sheila is a small mixed breed girl born in May 2025. She was found near Twin Lakes and brought to us. Sheila is so friendly and sweet, we can't imagine why someone leave her behind. Sheila is all vetted up and ready to find a new home and be done with the shelter! Sheila likes to play rough and rowdy with some of the dogs here at the shelter. She has done best with male dogs who are larger than her. Other types of dogs may be okay with a proper introduction, but it's expected she'll need some guidance when interacting with other lady dogs. We don't have much information about how she feels about cats. She would love a family with older kids that would love her and play with her. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only.
