Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Kestrel arrived at our shelter on 6/5/2026 as a transfer from one of our rescue friends. He was in a small impound and needed a place to go. He's around 6 months old and appears to be a shepherd mix of some type. He's a really nice boy who currently weighs around 35 pounds and does have a little growing left to do. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $150. Kestrel is a loving and happy pup who will need some basic training. He's at a great age for training and should learn quickly. We do think he'd do well with other dogs and is young enough to learn to interact well with cats. He will need regular exercise as he is a young dog. He's a honey who would make a great companion! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 22, 2026, 5:16 pm

Story
Meet Our Charming Tricolor Boy! This handsome 1.5-year-old tricolor pup weighs just 9 pounds, making him the perfect compact companion. He has a friendly, gentle personality and gets along wonderfully with just about everyone—including cats, other dogs, elderly people, and children. While he can be a little nervous when traveling or entering new environments, he settles in nicely once he has a chance to get comfortable. With patience and reassurance, his sweet and affectionate nature quickly shines through. He enjoys playing with toys, engaging in fun games, and satisfying his natural chewing instincts with appropriate chew toys. He's well-mannered and already has excellent household skills: he's housetrained, crate trained, and walks nicely on a leash. This little guy is looking for a loving home where he can continue to build confidence and share his loyal companionship. If you're looking for a friendly, adaptable, and adorable small dog, he may be the perfect match.Age: 1.5 yearsWeight: 9 poundsCoat: TricolorGood with: Cats, dogs, children, and seniorsTraining: House-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trainedFavorite activities: Playing with toys, chewing on toys, and spending time with his peopleHe’s ready to bring joy, love, and plenty of tail wags to his forever family. Story
Sheila is a small mixed breed girl born in May 2025. She was found near Twin Lakes and brought to us. Sheila is so friendly and sweet, we can't imagine why someone leave her behind. Sheila is all vetted up and ready to find a new home and be done with the shelter! She would probably be fine with other dogs with a proper introduction and we don't know how she feels about cats. She would love a family with older kids that would love her and play with her. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.
