Lucas is a two year old Aussie and Border Collie mix with a curious brain and a sweet nature. He’s friendly with people, loves pets, and greets the world with a happy attitude! He’s dog friendly and enjoys having other dogs around. He has not met cats yet. Based on his temperament, he would likely do well with kids. Lucas is leash trained and does well in the car. He’s intelligent and likes to investigate everything around him, so he does best in an environment that keeps his mind and body busy. Long walks, playtime, and mental challenges are important for him. He is still working on potty training and does mark, but he is getting fixed the week of 2/23 and that should help. He’s learning and improving, just needs consistency. Lucas is super sweet, eager to engage, and wants to be involved in whatever is happening. He’s a great fit for someone who enjoys an active, smart dog and is ready to meet his breed-specific needs. Lucas is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 3/7/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.

My name is Ms. Pickle and I am from Arkansas! From her foster: Ms. Pickle is a big dill! We have really enjoyed our time with this cuddly gal. Pickle loves squeaker/stuffy toys and giving them little nibbles. She loves kids and is doing great with crate training. We are still working on potty training and a routine/alerting when she needs to go outside, but this clever girl tries very hard and will figure it out quickly in her forever home. Ms. Pickle is a great cuddler with soft fur and a kissable nose, and loves to leap onto the sofa for family snuggles. Ms. Pickle still has puppy curiosity and when she gets the zoomies is very silly; she walks pretty nicely on a leash while exploring the neighborhood. We are still working on introductions with our cats but she is certainly curious about them :) We have relished our time with Ms. Pickle and know she will bring joy to your home!

My name is Mahi and I am from Arkansas! From her foster: Mahi is the sweetest girl, she LOVES cuddles with her humans. She will just come and curl up next to you. One of her favorite things to do is look out of the window, she can stare outside for 20 mins at a time, and of course she LOVES going for walkies!! She is crate trained, potty trained, and recently just learned to sit !! She is so so clever and she’s slowly getting good at recall too!! Even though she’s still a puppy, she is super mellow, she loves to play with she toys and sleep. Oh and forgot to mention she is obsessed with humans, she wants to say hi to everyone and get pets and love. She has the sweetest heart.
