He loves to play just as much as he loves cuddling up for a nap. He has the softest hair around his ears and the biggest puppy paws. Scout follows his foster mom around the house no matter what she’s doing. He enjoys playing with his foster sister but can also entertain himself with toys and chew bones. He will bark at unfamiliar sounds or when someone is at the door, but he is easily redirected. Scout uses the doggy door about 75% of the time, and full potty training is still in progress. During the day, he is sectioned off in the kitchen and sleeps in his doggy bed at night. He loves being held and getting attention and is an incredibly sweet and loyal boy. About Me: Hi, I’m Scout, or as my foster mom calls me, Scoot, because I love to scoot right up to you and cuddle for hours. I’m a well-behaved boy who loves to play, cuddle, and stay right by your side. I get along great with my foster sister, a 7-year-old retriever, and I make friends easily with other dogs. I love meeting new people, but my favorite thing to do is cuddle on the couch or bed and take a nap. I may bark at unfamiliar sounds, but I’m easily redirected. I enjoy exploring new things and places, and I even like car rides and baths. If you’re looking for your new best buddy, I’m looking for my fur-ever home.  January 6, 2026, 7:07 pm

Story
Cotton’s time has been beautifully spent. He’s learned to safely navigate a world that he can’t fully see or hear. He’s earned the nickname ‘Fake blind dog’ for his incredible ability to overcome the challenges and obstacles that he was born with, lived through and now has conquered. He moves with the absolute swiftness of a skilled herding dog. He is every bit as confident and agile as his canine counterparts.Beyond his improved physical abilities, Cotton has continued to make strides in his dog to dog relationships. It’s difficult in the canine world for Aussies that can see and hear. Their intense nature, quick movements, desire to herd, and demand for order can often be misunderstood by other dogs. When the ability to quickly read another dog is diminished by lack of vision or hearing or both- it can easily result in reactivity. Cotton has used his time here to learn to read cues his way. He’s learned to trust and play. He’s mastered fun and that should always be a priority. He’s also learning who to avoid, how to exit gracefully and that the humans do have his back. Cotton has embraced the life he’s living. He has worked so hard to be good and do good. He has more than earned his place in this pack, this home, this organization, this community and this world. He still needs a home of his own. This place he lives is wonderful but it’s not his wonderful. It’s a resting spot. A wayside stop. A layover. Cotton needs people that wake up every day happy and excited that he is there. A home that grabs him an extra treat when they are out. A grandma that extra spoils him. A kid that cannot wait to get off that bus to play with him. A bed that is just his. A family.Cotton has been neutered, microchipped, and is up to date on his vaccinations. He has tested negative for heartworm disease. His adoption fee is $350.00 plus sales tax. Please submit an adoption application if you would like to meet this beautiful boy.

Story
Spice & spunk that is what Miss Nessie is made of! This fun and active girl is about 1.5 years old. She is a girl that loves and needs to work. Her work can look many different ways! Agility, obedience, herding, running companion, hiking buddy, fly ball ruler- her options and your opportunities are endless!Nessie is great in the house and a champion at crate time. She is incredibly smart and devoted to her people and any activity they take her along to! The opposite side of a fantastically active, fun dog - is that they rarely have an off switch and you are rarely afforded an off day! But they are worth it! Worth cold, wet walks. Worth late night summer runs. Worth the extra time and effort.Nessie has done a fantastic job while in rescue of figuring out how to socialize and tolerate other dogs. She’s learned how to appropriately initiate play! That getting told ‘no’ by other dogs is part of life. And that too much attitude and friends don’t want to be around you. She still has work to do in her dog to dog relationships but she has made HUGE strides. She gets that the people are here to help and maintain order- we don’t need her assistance ?? It a beautiful place when they recognize this piece! She looks to her people if she has a concern- no longer wants to handle it on her own.Nessie needs a home that knows and understands herding/working dogs. She is so much more than an adorable girl with a beautiful coat. She is smart, willing and driven. She deserves a home that recognizes her awesomeness and encourages her.Nessie is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccinations. She has also tested negative for heartworm disease. Her adoption fee is $450.00 plus sales tax. Please submit an adoption application if you would like to meet this awesome girl!

Story
Edward is a mini Aussie breeder release born July 2019. Edward is a bit shy and would like another dog to help him with the transition into life in the real world. He is a sweet happy boy, but has never walked on a leash - although he is trying to learn. He would like a home with a fenced yard so he doesn't need to work on leash training at the same time as potty training in a new home. Edward should go to a home that has experience with Aussies so his needs for order and organization will be appreciated. He hopes he can find someone patient and kind to help him learn how to be a happy dog living the good life. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Argo arrived in November 2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota. He is about 3 to 4 years old and does have a lot of the trademark features of mixed breed dogs from Reservations - "Rezzies", as they are affectionately known in rescue. Like many Rezzies, he could be a mix of cattle dog and German and/or Australian shepherd, just to name a few possible options. He's a handsome and very active dog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Argo has had some basic training and will require a lot of consistent exercise. This is of the utmost importance in order to keep him well balanced and happy. He is ready for action all the time but gets serious when leashed. He does pretty well on leash walks and loves car rides. He's an affectionate guy, too, who thinks nothing of climbing into a person's lap if he gets the chance. Argo would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. He's NOT a dog for apartment living. He's looking for an ADULT only, single person home as he tends to bond very closely to his person and becomes quite protective. No cats for him. He's incredibly smart and would be a lot of fun to train! Watch a short TikTok video featuring Argo below! https://www.tiktok.com/@happy.critter.ranch/video/7199457883958955310 NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 30, 2025, 6:43 pm

Story
Boba was acquired at a young age from a friend of a friend. He is currently 3 years old. My wife and I are looking to re-home Boba for a number of reasons. 1. Resource Guarding. Aussies are known to be resource guarders. Unfortunately this has led to some unfortunate behaviors. When my Wife and I started dating I was bitten a few times due to this. In addition, he has pounced (but not bitten) a niece. He almost bit my puppy when we were visiting one weekend. These behaviors are not taken lightly. When my wife is not home he is what I consider a normal dog. He does not resource guard anyone or anything. Due to this it is important that his adopter knows how to counteract this behavior and is willing to put in the time. 2. Exercise. Aussies are working dogs. With kids on the horizon we will have less time to focus on him and his needs. Please reach out if you have questions. I ran out of space.
