Story
Daisy is a very beautiful dog, my 15 year old daughter adopted her 3 years ago. very good with kids we do have a cat who she does not hurt but would like to be friends with but the cat wants nothing to do with her Daisy is very playful really enjoys the winter weathers and the snow my family and I have just become very busy with extracurricular activities and work and school that we feel Daisy would be better off in a better home with more attention less time in her kennel and to be more active she is a very active dog she would benefit from a home with a yard that she can run around in. I just personally feel should be better off with a new family who can give her the attention she needs so she can have a happy life

Story
Edward is a mini Aussie breeder release born July 2019. Edward is a bit shy and would like another dog to help him with the transition into life in the real world. He is a sweet happy boy, but has never walked on a leash - although he is trying to learn. He would like a home with a fenced yard so he doesn't need to work on leash training at the same time as potty training in a new home. Edward should go to a home that has experience with Aussies so his needs for order and organization will be appreciated. He hopes he can find someone patient and kind to help him learn how to be a happy dog living the good life. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
Cotton’s time has been beautifully spent. He’s learned to safely navigate a world that he can’t fully see or hear. He’s earned the nickname ‘Fake blind dog’ for his incredible ability to overcome the challenges and obstacles that he was born with, lived through and now has conquered. He moves with the absolute swiftness of a skilled herding dog. He is every bit as confident and agile as his canine counterparts.Beyond his improved physical abilities, Cotton has continued to make strides in his dog to dog relationships. It’s difficult in the canine world for Aussies that can see and hear. Their intense nature, quick movements, desire to herd, and demand for order can often be misunderstood by other dogs. When the ability to quickly read another dog is diminished by lack of vision or hearing or both- it can easily result in reactivity. Cotton has used his time here to learn to read cues his way. He’s learned to trust and play. He’s mastered fun and that should always be a priority. He’s also learning who to avoid, how to exit gracefully and that the humans do have his back. Cotton has embraced the life he’s living. He has worked so hard to be good and do good. He has more than earned his place in this pack, this home, this organization, this community and this world. He still needs a home of his own. This place he lives is wonderful but it’s not his wonderful. It’s a resting spot. A wayside stop. A layover. Cotton needs people that wake up every day happy and excited that he is there. A home that grabs him an extra treat when they are out. A grandma that extra spoils him. A kid that cannot wait to get off that bus to play with him. A bed that is just his. A family.Cotton has been neutered, microchipped, and is up to date on his vaccinations. He has tested negative for heartworm disease. His adoption fee is $350.00 plus sales tax. Please submit an adoption application if you would like to meet this beautiful boy.

Story
Spice & spunk that is what Miss Nessie is made of! This fun and active girl is about 1.5 years old. She is a girl that loves and needs to work. Her work can look many different ways! Agility, obedience, herding, running companion, hiking buddy, fly ball ruler- her options and your opportunities are endless!Nessie is great in the house and a champion at crate time. She is incredibly smart and devoted to her people and any activity they take her along to! The opposite side of a fantastically active, fun dog - is that they rarely have an off switch and you are rarely afforded an off day! But they are worth it! Worth cold, wet walks. Worth late night summer runs. Worth the extra time and effort.Nessie has done a fantastic job while in rescue of figuring out how to socialize and tolerate other dogs. She’s learned how to appropriately initiate play! That getting told ‘no’ by other dogs is part of life. And that too much attitude and friends don’t want to be around you. She still has work to do in her dog to dog relationships but she has made HUGE strides. She gets that the people are here to help and maintain order- we don’t need her assistance ?? It a beautiful place when they recognize this piece! She looks to her people if she has a concern- no longer wants to handle it on her own.Nessie needs a home that knows and understands herding/working dogs. She is so much more than an adorable girl with a beautiful coat. She is smart, willing and driven. She deserves a home that recognizes her awesomeness and encourages her.Nessie is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccinations. She has also tested negative for heartworm disease. Her adoption fee is $450.00 plus sales tax. Please submit an adoption application if you would like to meet this awesome girl!

Despite having been abandoned, Kip has shown us nothing but kindness and trust. He shows zero signs of aggression and is incredibly cuddly - he'll be your constant companion and shadow. He came to us a bit anxious at first, but adjusted to our home quickly and has really blossomed. Kip is whip-smart and attentive, already knowing "sit," "down," and "shake" - and he's always eager to learn more. He listens really well and is a joy to have around. He gets along great with both our resident dogs. This boy is always ready to go go go! He has moderate to active energy and would thrive with an active family who can give him regular exercise, mental stimulation, and plenty of adventures. He's both house trained and crate trained, which makes him an easy houseguest. Kip gets a little sad and nervous when someone leaves the house. We're still working on his excitement when new people come over because he just loves meeting everyone. With his intelligence and willingness to learn, we know he'll continue to improve with consistency and positive reinforcement. Kip deserves a patient, loving home that can provide him with structure, activity, and all the affection he's been missing. About Me: Hi, I'm Kip! I'm a 4.5-year-old boy who's ready to leave my past behind and focus on all the adventures ahead. I'm a smart and friendly guy who loves to learn new things and make my people proud. I know several commands already and I'm always watching for the next cue - I really want to be a good boy! I have plenty of energy for adventures, playtime, and outdoor fun - I'm basically ready to go at a moment's notice! But I also love snuggle time, and I'll happily curl up right next to you (okay, maybe on top of you) whenever possible. Personal space? Never heard of it! I get along wonderfully with other dogs, so if you have furry friends at home, we'll be best buddies in no time. What I really need is a family who can give me the love and security I've been craving. I promise to give you my whole heart in return. I'm looking for an active, patient family who can help me continue building my confidence and teach me even more cool tricks. Are you ready for a loyal, loving companion who will never leave your side?      February 8, 2026, 2:02 pm

If you sit down, he may assume cuddles are happening (he’s learning to wait for the cue “up”… but enthusiasm is hard to contain). He’s friendly with people, great on outings, good with other dogs, rides nicely in the car, and sleeps like a champ in his kennel. He loves affection, gives sweet nuzzles, and takes his naps very seriously. Pacco is a foodie and eats his meals with enthusiasm. He’s currently working on house manners, like resisting the urge to sneak a snack off the counter. He’s also improving his leash skills and learning to walk more calmly with less pulling — he’s smart, eager to learn, and getting better every day. Pacco is an alert dog and will let you know when someone arrives, but he redirects easily. He does have a high prey drive, so a home without small animals or cats is best. Affectionate, playful, and absolutely unforgettable, Pacco is looking for a dog-savvy family or person ready to laugh, train, and fall completely in love.     February 1, 2026, 12:57 pm

Story
Name: Sherlock Age: Puppy DOB: 10/11/2025 Gender: male Breed: Aussie / Collie mix Weight: 18 lbs Dog friendly: yes Cat friendly: yes Child friendly: Yes. Older children. He currently loves to jump up to say hi House trained: in progress, puppy Crate trained: yes Energy level: Puppy Temperament: loving, playful, curious, smart Requirement: Not rental appropriate  Adoption Fee: $525+tax To adopt, go to:  www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html Before he ever had the chance to learn what home truly meant, Sherlock was left behind. Now he’s safe, cared for, and ready to discover what it feels like to be chosen, loved, and part of a family forever. From the Foster Family: Sherlock was dumped at a Walmart parking lot and was wandering along the highway when a wonderful woman stopped and picked him up. He is an Aussie mix and very true to his breed. He loves to explore and will happily play with any dog that is willing to play with him. At about 14 weeks old, he is just like a baby—full of curiosity, energy, and joy. He will play hard, explore everything around him, and then settle in for a well-earned nap. Sherlock sleeps in his kennel overnight and does very well. In the morning, we head straight outside where he goes potty right away, and with a consistent schedule he should be easy to fully house train. He loves finding things to chew on, so having appropriate chew toys will help keep him busy and happy. He is full of life, eager to learn, and always ready for the next adventure. His ideal family would be one that understands herding breeds and enjoys staying active. Please fill out an application and come meet Sherlock. He will happily greet you with puppy kisses. About Me: I am told I am in Minnesota, and all I can say is it’s not Kansas anymore—actually Alabama. The white stuff on the ground is very cold and makes my feet hurt, but I’m told it will get better. I love my foster home. There are five other dogs here and I get to play with most of them. I love sniffing around, finding new things to play with, and playing tug of war with a stuffed animal and another foster dog. I’m looking for a family that can keep up with my puppy energy and take me on lots of adventures as I grow and learn. If you think we might be a good match, please fill out an application and let’s meet. Thanks for looking at my bio. Sherlock  February 5, 2026, 11:14 am
