Story
Dog:Tootsie Age:9-12 Months Weight: 45 Location: Newtown, PA Nicknames: Toots, T, Tutti-frutti, Tootsie Roll, Grandma Ethel Good with other dogs?: Yes. Tootsie is dog friendly and loves to play with other dogs. She can play a bit rough, and can be a bit mouthy, which some dogs may not appreciate. Good with cats? yes Good with children? unknown, will not be adopted to a home with kids under 10 Activity Preference: Needs a couple walks a day., Needs in-house activities IQ: Smart Tootsie's favorite things: Tootsie is a sweet and funny dog. She enjoys taking walks and the ability to run off leash and at times get the zoomies. She is quite inquisitive and loves to smell and discover new places. She enjoys car rides and getting out of the house. She loves balls of all sizes and will often play with a full-size soccer-ball. Tootsie is good at: meeting people, meeting dogs, staying in a crate, behaving in the house, going for car rides, walking on a leash, playing Ideal home: another dog, no children, someone at home most of the day, a fenced yard, Lots of exercise opportunities Training Needs: socialization with dogs, needs obedience training Health issues: Tootsie is thought to have albinism and is deaf due to this trait. Due to her hearing impairment, her foster family has been teaching her sign language for basic commands (sit, stay, come, etc.) She also wears a vibrating collar which she has been trained to follow for recall when she cannot see her family. She is quite independent and just beginning to learn rules. Training will require consistent reinforcement and her forever home must be ready to work with her on a regular basis to keep these skills. In addition, she must go to a home with a fence to ensure she cannot wander away, as she cannot hear cars or other dangers. Meet Tootsie Tootsie is a fun loving, goofy, sweet and independent girl who would be great addition to home that will continue to work with her training to help with her special needs. There are some great benefits to having a deaf dog- vacuuming is not scary, play drums or guitar?- no problem for her, live by a fire/ police-department- she doesn't hear it, use lots of loud equipment- she'll never know! However, having a deaf dog comes with its challenges too- they don't come when you call them! Tootsie loves to run free in a yard, discover new things and curl up on a bed or couch. She loves toys and is constantly bringing her collection into her crate. She is house-broken and will let you know when she needs to go out. She looks a bit goofy, but has a big heart and is just waiting to find her new family willing to give this special girl some love. She wants to be with her people and will shadow you all over the house. She is happy sleeping on her bed, chewing her bone or playing ball in the yard. In typical bulldog fashion she can be a bit sassy and stubborn and will talk back to you when she has something to say. She is a huge fan of taking baths and riding in the car. She loves any adventure as long as she is with you. Because she loves her people so much she does not want to share and would be best in a single dog household. She is crate trained, great on a leash and will wait patiently and politely for her meals. Some of her favorite food include blueberries and eggs.     PLEASE READ: Adopters will not be considered without completing an application. Please visit www.AmericanBulldogRescue.org to apply! Story
Please contact Debbie (Deb@AmericanbulldogRescue.org) for more information about this pet.  Age: maybe 5 Weight: 55 lbs Location: Philadelphia, PA Nicknames: Winnie pie, Winter Louise, Winta Good with other dogs?: Yes, but with the right personality. Winnie is a bit bossy and a little in love with herself so she sometimes comes across as pushy and overbearing. The best companion for her would be a senior dog who won't care about her antics or a super chill dog who will just blow any pushiness off (like Brutus).Good with cats? Yes, Winnie lives with 3 cats in her foster home. Good with children? Unknown. We think  an adult home would be best. Activity Preference: Will go with the flow, likes car rides, likes walks, playing with her foster brother, naps, no-hides, bones, and stuffies. IQ: Average Winnie’s favorite things: Winnie loves following her foster mom all around the house and backyard, Winnie loves attention, a bone, her toys, and being told how pretty she is! Winnie is good at: staying in a crate, behaving in the house, walking on a leash, riding in a car,  cuddling, following commands, being a good girl! Ideal home: quiet environment, a fenced yard, while she could live with the right dog, she would probably prefer to be your only one true love. Training Needs: Winnie would benefit by continued practice with socialization with people and dogs Health issues: Winnie does seem to have some seasonal allergies. But nothing extensive. She takes Benadryl and claritin. She also has dry eye as a result of having untreated entropion for so long. She requires drops twice a day for the dry eye. Meet Winnie: She will greet you with barks that lead into flopping herself on the floor at your feet belly-up waiting for pets!  Then, she will bring you a toy, usually for tug-o-war.  At times, Winnie is a vocal young lady and is not shy about it.  She would probably be so happy to be the only dog in your home but does get along with her young, silly, canine foster brother.  When first meeting a new dog she can seem overly pushy so she would need a dog who can ignore that and balance out her pushiness.  She is currently living with Brutus (also available for adoption) and they get along great! Brutus even has Winnie running around the back yard! We love that for her! A typical day with Winnie starts with her expressing how hungry she is while you prepare her food after breakfast it is pretty much snoozing, potty breaks, a chew stick, and maybe some play time with one of her human fosters or with Brutus! When it gets close to dinner, Winnie will give reminders that it's almost time to eat! Then it's more playtime until it's time for bed! If you have hard surface flooring you'll hear Winter's signature shuffle that sounds like she's wearing slippers. Winnie is an absolute delight! She's an easy girl with so much personality! However, she doesn't show that to just anybody, you have to earn it. It takes Winnie a little bit to warm up to new people.  The best thing to do when meeting her is to totally ignore her and after a little while she will be your very best friend! It is so worth that little extra room she needs in the beginning. Once she bonds with you, you'll receive so much love and your heart will melt when you catch her gazing at you so lovingly.  Winnie has so much love to give and deserves the same in return.  PLEASE READ: Adopters will not be considered without completing an application. Story
CODY is a three year-old English bulldog with spina bifida. This is most likely a result of inbreeding which unscrupulous breeders do to obtain unusual colors or a shortened stature. We obtained Cody when his owners felt that euthanasia was their only option. He is not mobility challenged in anyway, but he lacks tone on his tushy and does not have complete control over his poops. He will also dribble urine but has the ability to release his bladder outside. A strict schedule, good diet and a male wrap take care of 99% of his oopsies. Cody is a sweetheart! He gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home and he loves to run! He's pretty athletic for an English Bulldog and, as long as you avoid high humidity days, he's pretty heat tolerant and can walk up to 2 miles. Cody seems to love the water! What he loves most of all is to ride in the car! Cody will make a wonderful copilot – again, just have to be careful of the heat with bulldogs.  Cody has a little bit of separation anxiety and anxiety that makes him reactive on a leash.  His foster mom is working on these issues but it will be a work in progress. Cody will most likely require more veterinary care than the average bulldog. He is available to a family with similar experience and excellent veterinary references. The first step is to fill out an application at www.companimals.org. and once approved, we will set up a series of meet and greets and a home visit with Cody. Adoption $500. Should Cody require an MRI at any time in the future, his foster mom will personally pledge $100 towards his MRI. X-rays are available upon request if you would like to share them with your veterinarian prior to starting adoption process.November 3, 2024, 10:40 am
