Story
This stunning 5-year-old Orange Belton English Setter is ready to find a family that understands him. He’s a big boy at about 70 lbs and while we know he is an English Setter, we can only speculate about his bloodlines because of his larger size. Augie is a smart, independent, treat-motivated boy who picks up on training quickly. But he’ll need an adopter with expertise and patience to help him build confidence, especially in new situations. Here’s what makes Augie special:  Low prey drive – no lizard or squirrel-chasing chaos here!  Companions  – he is ok with the company of female dogs his size but honestly people are his favorite, and he doesn’t need another dog in his forever home.  Yard enthusiast – a good-sized, securely fenced yard (6’ fencing) is important for his playtime.  Timid but willing – he may start off a little nervous, but with time, he’ll blossom into a devoted companion. Augie is searching for a kind and experienced adopter who will guide him with love, consistency, and patience. Because of his size and enthusiasm for his people, he’s looking for a home without children or older folks who might be accidentally knocked about by his affectionate nature. Could that be you? Apply today and give this sweet boy the home he’s been waiting for!  April 13, 2025, 7:35 pm

Story
Nelson is a friendly, loyal 3-year old male, neutered English Setter. He is a velcro dog that will bond strongly with his primary caregiver. He enjoys the company of other dogs and likes to play with other dogs.  He is house-trained and crate-trained. His energy level is typical of his breed, and he requires a securely fenced yard to run and explore. Nelson is not a candidate for a home with children under 13. He has not been tested around cats.  Nelson will self-exercise in his yard, exploring the perimeter and looking for birds. He is happiest outside with his human watching him and he loves to play fetch and go for walks. Nelson is very vocal when he is excited and his play style with other dogs is rough. An ideal doggy companion for him will not be intimidated by a noisy chase and wrestling session. Nelson would like a family that will allow him to snuggle with them on the furniture.  Nelson is very well behaved, but he is working on leash manners and not jumping up when he is excited. He is a fast eater and uses a slow-feeder bowl for meals. Nelson will grab treats and food so caution should be used to make sure he is not eating anything he shouldn’t. Typical for an English Setter, Nelson is an escape artist and will take advantage of open doors and gates to take off on an unsupervised run! His future family should take precautions with doors in order to keep him safe.  Nelson is currently being fostered near Austin, TX and is current on all of his vaccinations.   June 3, 2025, 1:50 pm

Story
TJ is 6 years young and he is a sweet, shy, sensitive Velcro boy. He has been living with a female fur-sister. They enjoy running in the yard together but when it comes to inside snuggle times with Dad, TJ wants his time and space for this.  His first owner was a hunter who passed away. Then he went to another hunting kennel where it was determined that TJ is NOT a hunter and they contacted rescue to find him a non-hunting home as a pet/family member.  TJ is looking for a calmer, quiet home. Another active dog for him to run with would be ideal and would help him settle into a new home. He’s never been an only dog so he would want a person that is mostly home if you don’t have another dog. Young children make him nervous so definitely a quieter home without kids. He is affectionate and appreciates cuddles and physical assurances that everything is ok.  TJ needs a home with a secure physically fenced yard that is large enough and interesting for him to run/work/explore/play with another active dog buddy. We’ve always had him in 6 foot privacy fencing and we aren’t sure how he would do in shorter fencing. His foster Dad says “he is lightning fast” and needs a home where doors and gates are kept closed and secure. He has a typical prey drive for an field ES and has never lived with cats so we do not expect him to be safe with cats.   TJ has adapted to being a house dog well. He is eager to learn, wants to please and is treat motivated. Are you the home that TJ is waiting for?      November 2, 2024, 12:58 pm

Story
Kris is a very handsome 7 1/2 year young, long and lean orange and white pup that was left in a rural shelter.  The shelter contacted SWESR and he was brought  into rescue.  He had skin issues, probably a flea allergy since he was infested, and was a tad underweight.  He has gained just a bit of weight and his coat is soft and fluffy now. Kris is doing great in foster care and he is crate and house trained.   He is interested in cats and may chase if he encounters one that runs from him.   Kris pulls on leash and would really benefit from some leash training.  He is walking better using an Easy Leash harness. He enjoys furniture privileges and sleeps in bed with his foster human at night.  He very gratefully settles in and seldom moves throughout the night.  Kris seems to get along with most other dogs and plays very happily with the other two neutered male Setters in his foster home.  He came from a family that had two female Setters and they got along well.   Kris does have the capability to climb any fence.  He scales chain link like it is a ladder and has gotten over a 6 foot stockade fence.  The problem is easily solved by going outside with him. He cannot be left alone outdoors ever, even with other dogs.  Kris will need a human to watch him.  He is not a candidate for an apartment, he really needs to be able to run and stretch his legs in a secure fenced yard. He is very sensitive and will come when you call him as he doesn’t want to disappoint you.  He is on the high-medium level of setter activity.  Kris would make a good running mate but he settles easily in the house.  He is very funny and playful with the other dogs and doesn’t mind curling up next to them for a spot on the sofa.  His favorite place to be is next to the human in the house though.  Kris is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. He is in a foster home in Edmond, OK. Won’t you consider Kris for your next family member?March 31, 2025, 9:28 pm

Story
Meet Phoenix (Nix), the Velcro Setter Extraordinaire! At just 3 years old, Phoenix—affectionately called “Nix”—is a stunning English Setter with a heart of gold. Sensitive and sweet, Nix is a certified Velcro boy who thrives on companionship and will stick by your side through thick and thin. His gentle demeanor makes him a perfect fit for a calm household with other dogs and cats. He absolutely needs another active, playful dog to share his adventures with. Because of his history prior to rescue we are looking for a calmer home with no children. Nix is happiest when he’s galloping across a Setter-friendly yard, and his boundless enthusiasm means a securely fenced yard (5 feet high) is a must. A quick learner with a sharp mind, Nix is highly treat-motivated and eager to please, making him an absolute delight during training sessions. He has mastered the art of cuddling and firmly believes that furniture is for sharing—so furniture privileges are non-negotiable! Are you ready to give this sensitive, intelligent, and playful boy the home he deserves? Nix is ready to bring endless joy, boundless loyalty, and a lifetime of Setter charm into your life.April 3, 2025, 5:28 pm
