Lady is an 18&#226&#128&#145pound Cocker Spaniel sweetheart who believes her true calling in life is to be your personal shadow, couch companion, and professional snuggle consultant. She’s friendly and outgoing at home, and while she may start off a little cautious in new places, she warms up quickly—especially if treats are involved. She is extremely food motivated and will happily demonstrate her “sit,” “come,” “shake,” and “outside” skills in exchange for snacks. She’s partially blind in her right eye, which gives her a bit of mysterious pirate&#226&#128&#145princess energy, and may explain why she’s not a fan of chaotic environments or overly enthusiastic dogs. Big, bouncy dogs? Hard pass. Bossy little female dogs? Also no thank you. Calm senior pups? Absolutely—she’ll happily share space with the chill crowd. Lady came to us with 30% vision in her right eye due to juvenile cataracts because of this she will be more prone to glaucoma in that eye and will need annual eye check ups. Lady loves small squeaky toys, stuffies, and anything that makes noise when she pounces on it. She’s slightly active with a moderate energy level, meaning she’s always up for a walk, a car ride, or running errands, but she’s equally thrilled to curl up next to you and soak up all the affection you’re willing to give. She’s a world&#226&#128&#145class snuggler and will happily join you on the couch or in a chair, molding herself into whatever shape is required for maximum coziness. She’s potty trained, walks nicely on a leash, and prefers a fenced yard because she’s not consistent about going potty on leash. She can be a bit barky in the crate at first, but she settles with time. She’s good with cats, good with adults, and likely best with older or considerate kids who understand her gentle, slightly nervous nature. Lady is a happy, goofy, affectionate little love bug who just wants to be with her people. She’ll make you smile with her antics, warm your lap with her snuggles, and brighten your days with her sweet, soulful presence. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. Grenas (born approx 11/8/21) is my first cockapoo and apparently, they’re very sweet dogs. Grenas is an absolute love. He is shy and his favorite place for his first week with me was under my sofa. However, no matter how timid he feels, his tail is always wagging. It took a bit for him to not pull away when I moved to pet him. He doesn’t like hands coming at him from above in a way that makes me think he may have been abused. A woman who works outside collects strays she notices, and that’s how he came to NDLB. We don’t know anything about his history. The day I took him, I also took a little chi mix foster, Lourdes. They had never met before, but they were instant friends and have become best pals. They play, wrestle, snuggle and sometimes sleep together. Grenas loved Lourdes right away, while it took some time before he was totally comfortable with me. For this reason, I think he would do best in a home with another dog. I think a dog friend makes him feel more secure. He is mostly potty trained. The few accidents he’s had happened because I didn’t let him out in time. My schedule can be random and I expect with a set schedule he would have no accidents. I don’t crate because it doesn’t work well in my home, but he would like a crate if he doesn’t have another place to make a ‘den.’ (Under the sofa is his safe place here, but my sofa is raised on legs and easy to get under.) He is awesome in the car. Just lays down in the back seat the whole ride. He loves treats and is food motivated, which makes training easier. He couldn’t care less about his kibble and he grazes his meals. He was terribly matted when I got him and had to be shaved. The groomer said one shoulder was so matted he had some bruising! He won’t let me put a jacket on him yet and so I haven’t walked him much, but he’s fine with the leash. He will bark sometimes at stuff going on outside and he will snap at Lourdes if she plays too rough, but otherwise, he has zero aggression. I’ve not seen him with kids, but I’m positive he would be fine. He shouldn’t be in a home with rambunctious kids as that would make him nervous. I would not describe him as a ‘hardy’ dog even if he did live outside for a while. Once he’s comfortable, he loves pets and a little wrestling, but is never clingy or demanding. He also does well with cats. He sleeps with me at least part of the night. He is not really a lap dog. He got out once, and it took a minute or two to get him back in, but he didn’t go anywhere. My backyard is fenced so he is let out back freely. The only issue anyone could have with Grenas is his shyness. For anyone not wanting a social butterfly type of dog, he’s a total prize. Tavis is a gentle, affectionate boy who loves his people and does well with other dogs and even cats. He enjoys exploring alongside a canine companion but can be hesitant on his own. Sensitive and thoughtful, Tavis thrives in calm, predictable environments. While not aggressive, busy or chaotic settings can feel overwhelming for him. Once he feels safe, his loyal and loving personality shines. Tavis has done well with resident and foster dogs when introductions are slow and structured. He can be an only dog in the right home; however, without a canine companion, he will need a home where he is not left alone for a full workday. He does best with routine, reassurance, and regular human presence. Because of his sensitivity, Tavis is not a good candidate for dog parks or unstructured group play. He prefers calm, controlled interactions and thoughtful introductions. A fenced yard is strongly preferred, and apartment living or very busy households may be challenging for him. Tavis is most comfortable in quieter environments where he can relax and feel secure. Tavis is seeking a patient, understanding home that will allow him to settle in at his own pace.
