My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Fred George was brought in by a community member on November 22, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Fred George, a handsome red tabby with a heart of gold and a resilient spirit. Fred George came into our care in urgent need of medical attention for a fractured left femur, but he has been a brave patient throughout his recovery. As of the end of December 2025, he is healing remarkably well and showing us just how much he looks forward to a bright future. To ensure his recovery stays on track, he will need follow-up X-rays around the end of January; these can be performed at no cost to you at San Diego Humane Society, or you may choose to have them done with your regular veterinarian. Because Fred George is also managing a possible fracture in his right rear ankle, he is looking for a quiet, low-stress home where he can continue his journey to full health. He would thrive best in an environment where he has a dedicated room to acclimate slowly and stay calm. This sweet boy spends most of his time lounging comfortably in bed, often showing off his silly side by laying flat on his back. He has even started to rediscover his playful nature, contentedly batting toys around from his favorite resting positions. Fred George is a gentle soul who can't wait to become a cherished part of your life and reward your care with a lifetime of companionship. He is ready to trade his recovery suite for a cozy spot in your heart and home. When you come to meet this charming fellow, please remember to bring a top-loading cat carrier to ensure he has a safe, comfortable, and secure journey to his new forever home

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
