My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Fred! 🐾💚
Fred is a big, beautiful 3-year-old male cat with a tender heart and a gentle soul. He’s had a rough start in life, which means he may be shy or reserved at first—but don’t let that fool you. Given time, consistency, and kindness, Fred blossoms into an incredibly sweet, affectionate cat who truly enjoys being loved.

Fred needs a forever home that understands that trust takes time. He would do best in a quiet, stable environment where he can decompress and learn that he’s finally safe. Once he settles in, Fred becomes a devoted companion who enjoys calm moments, gentle pets, and simply being near his people. 🐱

You can view our available animals online or by visiting the shelter during regular business hours. Our knowledgeable and compassionate staff are here to guide you through the adoption process, which includes completing an application and having a conversation to ensure you’re fully informed and prepared to welcome a new pet into your home.

More about this shelter

The Gulf Coast Humane Society is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization dedicated to serving the animals and community of Southwest Florida. We receive no federal, state, or county funding, nor do we receive financial support from the Humane Society of the United States. Instead, our lifesaving work is made possible through the generosity of individual donations, grants, bequests, and community fundraising efforts.

As a no kill shelter, Gulf Coast Humane Society is committed to providing compassionate care for unwanted, neglected, and abandoned animals. We never euthanize due to space constraints or the length of time an animal has been in our care. Our mission is to give every animal the second chance they deserve in a safe and loving environment.
