Story
Meet Bailey!Bailey is a young Basenji with beauty, brains, and plenty of spirit! This cute girl is full of energy and curiosity, always ready to explore the world around her. One of Bailey’s most adorable quirks is her habit of hopping around on her back legs when she gets excited, sure to bring a smile to your face.Bailey is sweet, intelligent, and eager to learn, but she is looking for an adopter who is committed to providing ongoing training, structure, and consistency. She is still learning good manners, including that people are for loving—not mouthing/nipping—so she will need a patient family willing to continue working with her using positive reinforcement. Bailey thrives when she has both mental and physical enrichment, and with the right guidance, she has all the potential to become an incredible lifelong companion.Because of her energy level and active nature, Bailey requires a secure, fully fenced yard where she can safely run, play, and burn off energy. She is not a dog who will thrive without regular exercise and continued training. We understand that finding the right match is important, so we are also open to a foster-to-adopt arrangement for the right home. This gives both Bailey and her potential family the opportunity to ensure it's the perfect fit.If you're looking for a smart, fun-loving dog and are ready to invest the time and commitment she deserves, Bailey just might be your perfect match! If you are interested in meeting Bailey, the shelter is open Monday through Saturday, 11 am – 6 pm, Sunday 11 am-4 pm (Summer Hours). If you’d like to schedule an appointment, check out the pets’ profile on our website at newberganimals.com to fill out an application and email it to frontdesk@newberganimals.com.Due to COVID-19, we are currently only open by appointment. Please follow the instructions on each pet profile.

Story
**Shiloh Redford** is what happens when someone takes an enormous amount of love and somehow packages it into one perfectly petite little red dog. He is a gorgeous deep mahogany color, with a sleek little Basenji-ish look, expressive eyes and a black-and-pink speckled tongue that only adds to his collection of ridiculously cute details. His name may sound distinguished, but Shiloh is far more interested in collecting cuddles, playing with toys and making absolutely certain every person in the room gets a chance to fall in love with him. Go watchShiloh Redford | Distinguished Gentleman, Professional Cuddler on YouTube and see this affectionate little charmer in action. His pictures can show you that beautiful red coat, but you really need to see the wiggles, cuddles and gentle kisses for the full Shiloh experience. https://youtu.be/Xj-vtbH4FGk Shiloh LOVES people. When he realizes someone is there to see him, his whole little body gets involved. His belly drops low, his booty starts wiggling and those feet get tippy-tapping with excitement. Give him access to your lap and he will happily settle in, puff out his chest and look incredibly pleased with the arrangement. And Shiloh does not believe affection should be concentrated in one location. If several people are around, he will happily work the room. A little leaning here, a cuddle there, perhaps one of his wonderfully gentle kisses before moving along to make sure nobody else has been neglected. He presses his body right into you when he wants love and seems happiest when there is as little unnecessary space between himself and his people as possible. When he isn't busy being adored, Shiloh is a playful little guy who genuinely enjoys his toys. One of his cutest habits is rolling onto his back, holding a toy between his two front paws and happily entertaining himself. He also shares toys nicely with other dogs and occasionally gets a case of the zoomies when the mood strikes. He has a wonderful balance of playful and snuggly, perfectly capable of having some fun before returning to the very important business of curling up beside you. Shiloh is dog friendly, although he has preferences about how new friendships begin. Dogs around his size or smaller are the easiest fit for him, and he can also become comfortable with larger dogs once he has had a little time to get to know them. A big unfamiliar dog can initially make him feel insecure, and Shiloh may show his teeth as his way of asking for some space. He communicates rather than escalating, and once he realizes the bigger dog is safe and respectful, he warms up beautifully. We think he could be very happy as an only dog soaking up all the attention himself or sharing his home with an easy-going but playful canine friend, fast-track to friendship if they are closer to his size. He also walks nicely on leash and has that lovely combination of being interested in the world while remaining very connected to his people. Shiloh is affectionate, cheerful, playful and deeply people-oriented, with enough personality tucked into his petite little frame to make him endlessly entertaining. There are dogs who enjoy affection, and then there is Shiloh Little Red, who seems to consider loving people his actual calling. Give him a toy, a comfortable place beside you and permission to make the rounds collecting cuddles, and this little red dog will be very happy indeed. In love? Of course you are! MEET BRIE, an adorable but scared 2-year-old (and three months) French Bulldog/Basenji mix in need of a foster or forever home. Brie is currently housed with her brother Franco, who looks a lot like her and is also scared. We think it's best that they are separated, though, as it should help them. They each weigh about 35 lbs. (Their paperwork may say shepherd mix but they both have Frenchie ears.) Both of them are timid/scared of new people, so they need adopters who can be patient and let them come out of their shells and bond to you. Brie is adorable and a wonderful medium size. She is currently in Southern California but can be transported to Oregon. Please email for an application.
