Meet Twix, an adorable 35-pound Basset Hound mix with short legs, long ears, and a whole lot of love to give. This girl is the total package — playful, snuggly, goofy, and incredibly sweet. Twix is a big fan of toys and is happiest when she’s carrying one around or trotting across the room with her tail wagging. She will also fetch a ball, although not always bring it back to you! I mean, come on, she’s a Basset Hound, not a Retriever!! While she has shown no signs of food or toy possessiveness in her foster home, adopters should always be mindful and practice good supervision, just as you would with any dog. She’s a happy sharer, but we always recommend common-sense precautions in new environments. Twix gets along well with most dogs and enjoys playtime. She can be a tiny bit snarky upon first meeting (Basset sass, what can we say?), but she settles quickly once she realizes everyone’s friendly. Twix is crate trained and will serenade you with a short Basset aria before settling down. She’s still working on her house training, but she does great when kept on a consistent schedule. She also rides beautifully in the car, hops in and out on her own, and handles stairs like a champ. At her core, Twix is a loving, joyful dog who adores attention and wants nothing more than to be someone’s cuddle buddy. She’s truly a wonderful companion, and the person who adopts her is going to be very, very lucky. Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup. Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs. Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats?Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds. Comfortable with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully. Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. Caddie is a 7 month old Basset Hound mix (about 30 lbs), currently at our vet’s office in Brooklyn, and she needs a foster as soon as possible so she can continue recovering in the comfort of a home environment. She was recently treated for vomiting and is now ready for discharge, but her next steps require a foster who feels comfortable with light, supportive medical care. Caddie has been diagnosed with megaesophagus, which means she will need someone to monitor her during meals and help her eat while sitting upright to reduce regurgitation. With the right setup and medication, this is a manageable condition, and our team will guide you through everything she needs. Rescue City will fully supply all essentials, including food, medications, a crate, feeding tools. Caddie is incredibly sweet, loves being around people, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs . My name is Dusty! I am 6 to 7 years old and 30 lbs. I am a mature adult that is easy to have around! I am low maintenance, friendly and really enjoying the comforts of a real home. I was found wandering around a college campus in Texas. Prior to that, someone told the rescue I was kept outside and never really got to experience the joys of heat, A/C, a dog bed, safety from animals outside and just some peace and quiet. Since coming here, I have soaked it all up. I am so appreciative of my cushy surroundings that I spend a lot of my day hanging out on my amazing bed, snoozing, looking out the window, sitting next to my humans, asking for pets, grazing on my food and just basking in the comforts of the indoor life. I enjoy short strolls and bird watching. I have no desire to venture far from my new found haven. When I am in "hunting mode," I don't even pull, I just hang out and stare :). I am also housebroken and while I am fine in a crate, I really don't need it! I am dog friendly but I don't need them either. I would be great as an only and probably prefer it now that I have had it. It would be super fun to have my own space and people after all I have endured. Older kids would be best for me or an adult family home. I don't need chaos! We aren't sure on cats but I am pretty chill... PS - I have an impressive side eye! I am located in NJ.
