After life on the streets, 1-year-old Gus is settling into the good life as an inside dog with all of the comforts of a loving home. He gets along well with people and other dogs, and he loves to snuggle on the couch and burrow under blankets. His legs are healing from flea bites, and he has undergone heartworm treatment, but now that he is healed, look out! This handsome hunk will win a very lucky family over for life. A note about Gus’s skin care: Gus came to us with dermatitis related to a previous flea exposure. He has been fully treated and is now flea-free, but the exposure left him with sensitive, allergy-prone skin that will require ongoing management. Gus is doing very well with his current treatment. He receives an allergy injection approximately once every two months to keep the itching and irritation under control. His future family should plan to continue his allergy care with their veterinarian so he can stay comfortable and healthy. Gus doesn’t let a little sensitive skin slow him down, but we want his future family to understand his ongoing care needs so there are no surprises after adoption. ##2738038##

Sophie recently joined a new foster home, and here’s what they have to say about her: She is the SWEETEST dog! We have started calling her "So-Sweet" as a nickname. She is calm, affectionate, and very well-behaved (she patiently waits for breakfast and dinner). She sits on command, and we are working on shake. She loves to go on "sniffaris" either on a long walk or with her head out of a car window. Everywhere she goes, she brings smiles to people's faces. She also LOVES bath time. In fact, after her first bath, she got back in the tub! She is completely potty trained and can hold it all night without having to go out. And she also goes virtually on command when you say, "Go potty!" She also gets along great with our senior dog! She is truly such an easy dog! Sophie is a female Basset Hound/Terrier mix with an estimated date of birth of 1/19/21. She weighs 36 lbs.

11 y/o Beebe is a Bassett mix who was surrendered to HBHR when his family moved out of the country. They were afraid that he would not do well with a long quarantine. He was extremely over-weight, and it was amazing that he could get around on his legs! It has taken several months but Beebe has gone from 87 pounds to 50+ ponds and is looking great! He has a spring to his step and can now run with the pack when an alert goes out about a squirrel sighting! He can be a bit grouchy when napping and younger pups step on him in their games but is usually mild mannered and only barks when the pack decides it is time to sing! Beebe is affectionate and is first to come for pets in the morning when you first get up. He wants his pets and has no interest in hearing about your full bladder! This sweet boy is good around people and kids and will do well with or without a canine companion.
