Story
Archie is a new addition to the rescue but is ready to find his own! Archie came to us from El Centro after landing in a kill shelter and being saved by the IVHS. Archie is estimated around 9 years old and is 20-21 lbs. He was initially a bit defensive with the fosters dogs but adjusted quickly (less than 24 hours) and now is doing fine. He also did well in groups of small dogs in the shelter. He likely will need a slow intro to any resident dogs. Archie walks nicely on a leash, seems to be housebroken and does fine in a crate. Archie is very friendly with people however unknown with children. We believe him to be a "Beagle-weenie". Story
Annika came to us from Yuma. She was VERY shy and has made some progress in foster but is still going to require patience and work in her forever home. She is still unsure of the leash and anxious about new situations. She is very devoted to her foster mom, has learned the joys of living indoors and is pretty well housebroken. She does well in a crate but is generally not destructive. She gets along with dogs of all sizes and ages and also has no issues with cats, and would likely be best in a home with other animals. Annika is around 4 years old and about 17 lbs. She is spayed, current on vaccines and microchipped. She does have an issue with one of her front legs (possibly the result of malnutrition) but it does not cause her any pain and she is still able to be active. She has not shown too much interest in toys (yet) and seems to thrive on routines. Meet and greets will need to be at her foster home (midtown Tucson). This sweet 8-year-old Beagle mix is a total cuddle bug who adores snuggling close and making new canine friends wherever she goes. When she arrived as a stray, she was carrying an open wound, but thanks to lots of love and care, she's all healed and ready to start the happiest chapter of her life. Meet Harry aka Artie! A895743. Harry is a 3-yr-old beagle mix in foster care with Pima Animal Care Center, Tuson, AZ. Harry loves all of the people he meets! If we were to guess at his breeds, we would say Beagle and Boston Terrier, but that is just a guess. He has the Beagle bark, and a happy—go-lucky personality, Beagle ears, and the coloring of both a Beagle and a Boston. He is about the height of a 13-inch beagle, but he is also quite wide! He weighed 45 pounds at intake, and he needs to lose at least 20 pounds! He is on healthy weight dog food, and is now getting regular exercise, so hopefully those pounds will start to melt away. Despite the extra weight, he loves going for his walks! Harry is 100% non-destructive in the house when left alone, and has zero separation anxiety. He is house trained with a dog door. He gets along with some of the dogs in his foster home and others not so much, so a meet and greet and slow introduction is necessary for a good fit. He would be perfectly happy as an only dog. He really prefers people to dogs. Harry is protective of his food and must be fed in a separate area from other dogs. Wabi-sabi is a traditional Japanese worldview and aesthetic that finds beauty, value, and tranquility in imperfection. While we think our Firefly is pretty perfect girl, she definitely has a bit of wabi-sabi as she has a cute, crooked little grin!Firefly spent a bit of time in a foster home where she was working on potty training, loved ANY kind of food she was offered, and was very well crate trained (she sees the crate as her safe space). Firefly was a quiet houseguest who did well with a resident small dog and even a parrot. She can be wary if new people but has all the potential in the world to be a loving, loyal companion! Here’s what some of Firefly’s friends at the shelter said:“I met Firefly the day she was brought to the clinic, pregnant and a recent stray. She quietly waited to be seen and looked so sad. I gave her chicken which she gently ate from my hand. These days, Firefly is more friendly and happy to go out on a walk. Last week she even came up to us on her own and accepted affection happily. She enjoys her kennel mate and both come up to greet us in their kennel. Firefly is well liked by volunteers and staff, and she will make a lovely companion.”“Firefly is a cutie patootie little shy gal! She was easy to leash up in her kennel this morning and walk over to a play yard with her kennel mate. Once in the yard she explored and played with her buddy. She`s learning to trust people; she would approach me for treats and when her kennel mate came over for pets, she would cautiously approach as well. She allowed for a few gentle chin scritches and drive-by pets. She definitely seeks comfort from a doggy friend and would probably love to have a confident buddy in her new home.”Firefly shares her kennel with another PACC pup and has been tolerant and independent when meeting other dogs in playgroup. She’s looking for an understanding and patient family who will give her time to warm up and get comfortable. She’ll likely thrive with a confident, friendly dog to show her the ropes in her furever home.
