Story
Wednesday, affectionately known as Sweet Potato, found her way to Southern Arizona Beagle Rescue from the Phoenix Humane Society after being surrendered by her previous owner. She had sustained significant injuries, including numerous stitches around her neck area, possibly from an altercation with wildlife or a barbed wire fence. Upon arriving at our home, she was still recovering, with stitches that would be removed in a few weeks. Her energy levels were low, and she was not very interested in eating. After a thorough examination, she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and valley fever, primarily affecting her hips. Initially, she had a challenging time, but with the right medications and time, she began to heal and regain her energy. Fast forward to four months later, and Sweet Potato has transformed into a wonderful sweetheart. She has regained her energy and has developed a deep affection for her people. Her injuries have healed, she has shed a few pounds, and her overall energy level has improved, although she is still pretty mellow for a young beagle (she appears to be around 3-4 years old). She has started playing with toys and, although she can’t jump up on the furniture, she uses a step to get on the couch and our bed. Sweet Potato is a people dog at heart, always wanting to be close to her human companions and seeking pets. She gets along well with other dogs and enjoys spending time with them, but she rarely engages in play with our dogs. As a healthy eater, she knows when it’s meal time, just like any good beagle. She loves to sniff and explore our yard, occasionally getting obsessed with a lizard under a bush. Walking Sweet Potato is a breeze. She doesn’t pull on the leash and rarely reacts to dogs or people passing by. If she does react, she might bark a little bit. Wednesday, or Sweet Potato, is a wonderfully sweet dog who would make a wonderful companion for the right family. She will be on medication for her lifetime for hypothyroidism, though that is a very low cost medication ($10 a month). She is also still being treated for Valley Fever and will need follow up and medication under advisement of a veterinarian. Though she has some medical needs, she is an absolute sweetheart and such a good companion. If you’re interested in learning more about her, please fill out an application.

Story
I am looking for the right home for a dog that came into our care through an unexpected situation. She originally belonged to my next-door neighbors and actually grew up next door to us alongside her sister, who lives with us. When her owners began dealing with serious health and personal issues, they were no longer able to keep her and were considering surrendering her to the pound. Rather than see that happen, we brought her into our home. Unfortunately, we already have five dogs, and transitioning into a large pack has been difficult for her. She grew up in a much quieter home with an older couple and was never really accustomed to living with several other dogs. Most of the time she does fine, but there have been serious fights with some of our dogs, including one incident that resulted in another dog suffering a significant eye injury. During another fight, I injured my finger while separating them. She was not intentionally trying to bite me, but I want to be completely transp

Story
Ginger is a 13-year-old Beagle girl who is looking for a soft place to land and a family to love for the rest of her golden years. And don’t let her age fool you — this sweet girl still has plenty of personality and love to give!Ginger is a gentle, carefree girl who has lived around other dogs and has done well meeting them. She isn’t interested in being the center of attention or getting into trouble. In fact, she’s perfectly happy taking a nice walk, coming home, and settling in for a cozy nap.She walks nicely on a leash and enjoys her evening walks. She also rides well in the car and likes to stay in her seat while taking in the scenery. Ginger isn’t much of a toy girl, and she doesn’t appear to have any food aggression. She’s an easygoing companion who would much rather be near her people than cause a ruckus.Like many senior pups, Ginger has some lumps and bumps, including fatty tumors, but they don’t stop her from enjoying life. What she really needs now is someone who will appreciate all the wonderful things that come with adopting a senior Beagle — companionship, loyalty, sweetness, and a whole lot of love.Ginger is 13 years young, and she still has so much love to give. If you’re looking for a sweet senior who would love to spend her days taking leisurely walks, relaxing beside you, and reminding you that the best things in life come with four paws, Ginger may be your girl.
