Harper is 8.5 years old, but acts like he’s half his age! His ideal new home would be one with a nice backyard that allows him to run and hunt. He loves going outside and being free to explore. Because we work full days, Harper is at home sleeping in his crate all day, and when we get home is bursting with energy and full of anxiety. He is housebroken, however because of his anxiety needs to be in a crate when we are not home. He becomes very nervous around young children, so we are looking to find a new home for him. Our grandchildren will be moving close to us next year and he just cannot be trusted around them. Harper is extremely smart and very stubborn. He is very loving with us, and I am hoping we can find a perfect home for him to bring lots of love and company to his new family.

When he first arrived in July 2020 he was paralyzed with fear, but since that time he has made remarkable progress and we believe he is now ready for adoption to the right family. Andy will blossom in a quiet home with someone who is able to spend a good amount of time with him, either petting him or keeping him company out in the yard. Andy is very sweet, quiet and loves getting affection from his person. We also feel strongly that Andy will need another confident and friendly dog to help him and would require a fenced yard. He will go on short leash walks but is definitely more comfortable roaming freely in his own safe garden. He does well with house training if taken out regularly or has access to a dog door. He has learned to use a dog door with a soft plastic flap. He will also go potty on a pee pad if he is unable to go out often. He likes to sleep in a quiet place on a dog bed and particularly likes walk-in closets as his safe place. In his foster home he eats his meals and sleeps in the master closet -- with the door open. He prefers to eat without anyone in the room with him. He does not care much for the crate, but his foster parents never felt like he needed to be crated. He is not destructive at all and can be left to free roam when alone, and will likely stay on his bed. Andy does great with other dogs but will get nervous around a dog who wants to jump on him all of the time. Cats are okay too - he ignores the cat in his foster home even when the cat wants to engage with him. They went to the local shelter and now thankfully find themselves rescued. We think they are a lovely mix of Beagle and Dachshund. They will be ready for adoption sometime the week before Christmas. They will be spayed or neutered and microchipped, and will have had 2 Distemper/Parvo vaccinations and a Bordetella vaccination. They will need one more Distemper/Parvo and then a rabies vaccination when they are old enough. He is very good natured and friendly with all the dogs he has met. He will definitely play if invited! He's done well with some cats too and also has been gentle with children (5 years and older). Huck is obsessed with lizards and will entertain himself for quite a while on a lizard hunt. He LOVES being out in nature, LOVES car rides and would LOVE a family who would want to take him places.  His foster mom says he is very responsive when she calls him and he does not shy away from anyone. He is good about staying in his crate when the family is away at work. We are so glad we were able to make an exception for this 'slightly larger than a beagle hound' and we feel sure that the family who adopts him will gain a treasure! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Polly is a tiny beagle who is very submissive both to other dogs and people. However, once she understands you are her friend, she will follow you around everywhere. She is an interesting combination of timid and bold. Even though she is estimated at 5 years old she is still quite puppyish in that she is very inquisitve about things and she can be a bit mischevious in her explorations. Polly is doing excellent with her house training though and has not had any accidents in her foster home. She does not have to be leash walked now but was initially, and she did quite well on leash. Given freedom out in her fenced yard she has not shown any inclination to dig or try to escape. Polly loves to be petted and will curl up next to her foster mom on the sofa, but she is very unsure of being held. Perhaps her recent history taught her that human hands capturing her was a scary experience.  She is learning that the crate is a good place and has been enjoying her meals and bedtime treats there. Polly is not thrilled about being left alone but she is learning to tolerate that as well because her foster mom and dad do work outside of the home.
