Rowdy is a little shy with new people. Shes great with all dogs she meets and would be best on a home with another dog to help her adjust. Rowdy is curious in new situations, but life up until recently, hasnt been kind to her..... so she will need time to get comfortable and then her true goofy nature will emerge! Like a butterfly, Rowdy is a much different pup than when she 1st came to us from the pound, with no hope of getting out :( UNTIL the rescue chick saw me and knew i was a diamond in the RUFF ;) Rowdy needs a patient home who will give her time to warm up, open up & trust. Older kids only would be best for her and a fully fenced yard is a must. Until she settles in she'll be an escape risk. An apartment would work for Rowdy as well. She’s dog and cat friendly and would do well in a quiet home with a low key canine companion. In addition, she’s potty trained, non destructive and enjoys sleeping in her dog bed, on your lap or beside you, or snuggled up in bed with her human at night. Cherry’s best match would be in a home with a fenced in secure yard. Cherry requires an adopter that is able and willing to give her the time and patience she will need to overcome her fear of new humans, trust her adopter and adjust to new surroundings. He instantly warmed up and got along with everyone here as soon as we got him. Calvin is a Beagle mix, he's a bit of a bigger boy with his stubby legs- kind of like a super solid beagle but isn't short. Leo is an adult neutered male Beagle who will be with the Path to Home Program for 8 weeks at the Orleans Correctional Facility. He will be ready for adoption upon completion of the program - approximately early November. Volunteers For Animals and Orleans Correctional Facility have developed a Dog Training & Fostering Program within the prison that will provide socialization and basic obedience training for the dogs before being adopted. Volunteers For Animals will be pulling dogs from high kill shelters and locally who may be in need of behavioral support to become more adoptable. The dogs will then be transported to Orleans Correctional Facility where they will live with selected inmates who will care for them 24 hours per day for approximately 8 weeks. Each dog will have a crate, bedding, leash, collar, training treats, and food provided by Volunteers For Animals. A certified dog trainer will provide weekly training classes for the dogs and the inmates. The inmates will then work daily to reinforce the formal training with the dogs. Adoption Procedures The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the Path to Home animals are $200 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. All of the dogs are current on vaccines, heart worm tested and spayed/neutered. Wilson is about 8 months old, 32 pounds, and apparently decided he was done waiting around to be rescued...so he just showed up at one of our rescuer’s houses. We don’t know exactly how Wilson ended up there. Most likely he was dumped nearby, but one day there he was — and Wilson basically said, “Hi! I live here now!” And honestly, he fit right in! Wilson happily joined the crew at his foster home and quickly made himself part of the family. He LOVES other dogs, loves to play and seems to think every new friend, human or canine, is someone he’s been waiting his whole life to meet. He is just a genuinely happy, social, fun-loving puppy. And Wilson has another favorite activity... SWIMMING! This boy loves the water! So if you’re looking for a buddy for summer adventures, trips to the lake, playing in the yard or just generally having a good time, Wilson is ready to volunteer. At only 8 months old, he still has plenty of puppy silliness and growing up to do, but he has such a friendly, go-with-the-flow personality. Considering he basically wandered into rescue and immediately thought, “Yep, this works for me,” we’d say Wilson is pretty good at making the best of things. Now he just needs to mysteriously show up at his forever home. Wilson will be in NY at the end of October and we would love to have a family waiting for him! Please note: All dogs are rescues so we often do not know their actual breeds but use an educated guess to tell you what they most look like. Our adoption fee is $400 and unless otherwise stated all dogs and puppies have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, 4DX tested (if age appropriate), put on heartworm/flea/tick prevention, age appropriately vaccinated, dewormed, vet checked and flown from Puerto Rico.
