Bess is a 7 year old spayed female Beagle/Bulldog Mix. Bess weighs about 50 lbs. She is good natured and sweet. She is housebroken, crate trained, good on a leash and good with other dogs.  She is currently in a foster home. Volunteers For Animals periodically pulls dogs from other shelters to free up space; this helps avoid euthanizing healthy, adoptable animals. We are able to do this through the generosity of many people such as the originating shelter staff, transporters, foster volunteers and others who help with pulling fees, vet bills and finding good homes once they are here. The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the rescues animals can range from $100 to $300 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If you are interested in any of the Rescue dogs, please email us. Do not call the Shelter regarding rescue animals - they have no information about these dogs. All rescue animals are in foster homes with volunteers - NOT at the Shelter - unless otherwise noted.  Here is the adoption process:   To adopt an animal you must complete an application and be approved. There is a $60 fee for any animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a $35 deposit which will be returned upon proof of surgery. All dogs must be licensed before leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that issue dog licenses are not open on Saturdays and Sundays. I'm protective of my face, so a home with adults or older, dog-savvy kids is my ideal match. I'm also a bit of a goofball and adore the company of other dogs. Now, I might not instantly become your best buddy; I take time to trust and get comfortable in my surroundings. But trust me, the patience will be worth it. I'm brimming with love and loyalty, just waiting for the right family to share it with. Here's the good news - I'm house and crate trained, proving that, yes, young dogs can indeed learn new tricks. Oh, and there's more - I'm pretty chill around cats, though a gentle introduction is wise. And I've been curious and respectful around a human baby, so that's a plus. One thing to note, though, is that I've had some reservations around men. Despite two years together, I haven't quite warmed up to my human's fianc and have snapped at him a few times. So, it might be best if I find a home without men. During a short stay with Kathy, I was a little shy but kept to myself. Very calm and nice dog. We are empty nesters and unfortunately Milo needs campanionship. He is good with other pets especially dogs and kids. Happy fellow. It sincerely hurts to let him go, however we are seldomly around and we've noticed his sadness since our 4 kids have grown and left. Our work just doesnt allow us to give him the attention he needs. Does have an electric fence and coller which we'd include ... if desired.
