Story
Beagle Bailey is an adorable 5-year old male Beagle who was brought to the HSOV on March 22, 2026 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff after he was picked up on Poplar Street in Belpre Ohio. Bailey was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped.
This good-looking boy has a stunning chocolate brown/dark tan/white coat, brown freckles on his legs, a long tail, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked face with soulful brown eyes, a milk chocolate nose, a slender muzzle, and extra-large floppy ears which frame his face.
These photos were taken on March 24, 2026 while Beagle Bailey was relaxing in his soft bed. This sweet boy was the perfect gentleman and posed like a 'pro' for his preliminary pictures that day. Bailey has a quiet/gentle, easygoing personality and appears to be good with the other dogs who are housed nearby.
Beagle Bailey weighs 35 lbs and is the perfect size for a soulmate/companion to spend your days/nights with.
Bailey was 'favoring' one of his back legs when he entered our shelter so it's possible he could have an injury to that leg. Bailey will be seen by a veterinarian if deemed necessary.
Beagle Bailey was tested on March 25, 2026 ( SNAP 4Dx Plus Test Kit). The results were that he was negative for Heartworm, Ehrlichia and Anaplasma .. But that Bailey was positive for Lyme Disease and will be given treatment.
In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Beagle Bailey was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold (and posted on Facebook) so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for Bailey, so he is now available for foster/adoption.
Update: Beagle Bailey went home with a foster family on April 17, 2026 who plans to adopt him after he is neutered.
Beagle Bailey came back to our shelter on April 30, 2026 since the other dog in his foster home was jealous of Beagle Bailey .. And Beagle Bailey was chasing the family's indoor cat inside the house. So another lucky family will have an opportunity to foster- or foster-to-adopt Beagle Bailey.
We've learned that Beagle Bailey is good with other dogs as well as children, but he is not good with cats. He is housetrained, will dig in the dirt when given the opportunity, and he may be a flight risk. Beagle Bailey is super friendly and LOVES his people friends.
Update: Beagle Bailey went home with a wonderful foster family on May 6, 2026 so that he could enjoy the comfort/hospitality of their home instead of being in a shelter floor crate while he awaits his forever home.
Beagle Bailey is still available for adoption. He will be neutered before being adopted by his new family, but he could be fostered-to-adopt while he awaits his neuter procedure. If you would be interested in giving Beagle Bailey his forever home, please complete and HSOV Foster/Adoption application for approval so that we may arrange a meet-and-greet with his foster family.
Update: Beagle Bailey has an approved adoption hold as of May 15, 2026.
