Some love stories are simply too special to separate, and Lucy and ChiChi are proof that the best things in life come in pairs. Meet Lucy, a sweet 10-year-old Beagle mix weighing 21 pounds, and ChiChi, an adorable 7-year-old Chihuahua weighing 17 pounds. These two precious girls have spent their entire lives together, and they’re looking for a forever home where they can continue their journey side by side. They are a bonded pair and must be adopted together, but trust us when we say that means double the fun, double the companionship, and double the love.Sadly, Lucy and ChiChi came to us because their beloved owner is terminally ill. While these girls are understandably sad and adjusting to losing the home and person they’ve always known, they are ready to open their hearts to someone new. They have so much love left to give and are hoping to find a special person or family who will cherish them just as much, if not even more. These lovely ladies are easygoing, gentle souls who appreciate the quieter things in life. With their low-energy lifestyles, they would be happiest in a calm, low-traffic retirement home where they can be pampered, spoiled, and treated like the little princesses they are. Think cozy beds, peaceful afternoons, gentle affection, and plenty of time to relax together.Lucy and ChiChi are friendly girls who get along with other dogs, cats, people, and even children. If you have a dog at home, a meet-and-greet will be required to make sure everyone gets along. They are also happy to be carried, which is easy to do with their petite sizes. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet day at home or simply keeping them company, these girls will be content just being by your side.They already know the ropes of living in a home, too. They use pee pads indoors and will also go outside to take care of business. And one of the sweetest perks of adopting a bonded pair? They already have each other. They can offer one another comfort, companionship, and reassurance while settling into their new home. Crate Trained: Yes Potty Trained: Yes Ideal Home / Adopter: Kernel would love to be part of an active family, especially one with another friendly, playful dog. He has not been around kids in his foster home but has shown positive interest in children in the neighborhood. Older children are recommended due to his boisterous play style. Likes: Kernel enjoys getting on the couch, tossing off the pillows and blankets, and rolling around before settling down for a snooze. He has favorite chew toys and a rope for playing tug. He enjoys treats and takes them gently. Ice cubes are a new favorite crunchy treat! He does very well in the car and enjoys rides. He has also done well meeting new people and dogs on walks. Dislikes: Kernel can be mouthy when playing but responds well to "no" or "done" and having someone walk away. He may chew pillows, other cloth items, rocks, acorns, and walnuts. He also likes to counter surf, so his home may need some "Kernel-proofing." He does not care for loud or unfamiliar noises, making a residential neighborhood preferable to an apartment complex or busy, noisy area. He had a couple of accidents when he first arrived at his foster home but is potty trained. He does not yet have an obvious signal when he needs to go outside, especially to pee. Kernel, aka Colonel Kernel, is a super sweet boy. He is a true hound dog and less vocal than you might expect. Someone who understands hound behaviors and works with them rather than against them will find themselves with a forever friend. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter and microchip if you choose to return to our affiliated vet office for the procedure. Information provided by shelter staff, volunteers, and veterinarians is used to give a best estimate as to a dog’s breed make up. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential breeds for each dog.We are a dog only facility so we do not know how most of our dogs will be with cats. Even if a dog is surrendered to us and said to be good with cats there is no way to be sure the dog will be good with your cats. Dilly aka Dilly aka Dilly Bar, is a 10 month old Beagle mix boy who is a happy friendly boy. Weighing in at approximately 28 pounds, Dilly is a nice medium sized boy who will fit into just about any household. Dill came from a cruelty situation where around 22 dogs had to be removed from a horrific home and life. It hasn`t phased him a bit - he`s still just a bouncy boy who loves everyone and everything. It is as if he doesn`t even remember the mess that he was rescued from. Which is just as well! You may have noticed that our Dill has a pirate vibe going on - he only has one functional eye! His other eye didn`t develop and gives him a rakish winking look, 24/7. It doesn`t matter to Dilly - he goes through life just like he has two working eyes, and it is likely he was born just like this and has never known any different. It poses no future issues for him, has been fully vet checked, and is just sort of a thing that he has (or doesn`t have, however you want to look at it!). Just remember - he isn`t giving you the stink eye - he just can`t help looking that way! Dill is very social, very friendly, mostly still a puppy boy with his whole wonderful life ahead of him. He seems to enjoy meeting any and all people he comes across without exception. He would do well with kids, seems to like other dogs (meet and greet required), and may even do well with cats if supervised correctly (cats are currently unknown but he doesn`t seem overly reactive to them). While a fence would be outstanding, so long as his family is willing to not allow him to be off lead unsupervised, ever. Anyone who knows Beagles knows that when they smell a smell that gets their interest, they will follow that smell to the ends of the earth - it`s sort of their job. Before they know it, they are hopelessly lost. They need a family dedicated to keeping them safe and sound, fence or no. Because Dilly came from such a terrible place, we are assuming that he will need a bit of work on house training. Even if he was perfectly trained at one point, we imagine that he was confused by how he was forced to live and will need a bit of a refresher. He is very smart and very willing to learn, so we don`t think it will take much time at all if his new family simply pays attention and shows him the way! Basic obedience and things like crate training will also be some of the things that his new family can work with him on - we know he has all the potential to be a super star once someone commits to giving him the life he always deserved! Nutmeg is our slightly shy snuggly 10 month old beagle mix boy. He is likely a brother to Dill, but he isn`t QUITE as outgoing and bouncy - he`s a little bit more of a burrower and cuddler. He weighs in at approximately 25 pounds, so is basically the perfect snuggle size.Nutmeg came from a horrible situation that necessitated the Humane Society removing him and another 20 some dogs from a life of total squalor. Nutmeg is still a happy lovey boy, but it just takes him about 5 minutes longer to get there. He likes to take things one step at a time, and once he realizes all is well, immediately burrows into your lap and gets just as close as he can to you. He loves to be loved. Maybe he isn`t as outwardly enthusiastic as his brother, but he has an innate sweetness that is hard to resist. Nutmeg would do best in a slightly quieter home. Don`t get us wrong - he is still an active playful young man, he just needs a little extra downtime to process all the things around him, so we think a home with lower activity, older kids only, and someone with time to give him the cuddles he craves, would be best. He seems to like other dogs just fine, would likely be fine with kids in general, and while cats are unknown, we think he might be a good match for them. Due to his former living situation, Nutmeg will likely need to work on his house training skills. While he very well may have been house trained at one time, it is reasonable to expect that living in the `home` he was living in has confused him greatly. With a little time and effort, this brilliant boy will get it in no time! Basic obedience has largely been absent in his life, along with crate training and socialization. All of these things are incredibly simple for his new family to accomplish as this is a dog who is more than ready and willing to please.Like most beagles, Nutmeg would do best with a fenced in yard, but it is not required so long as his new family pledges to keep him safe by keeping him on lead. Beagles tend to have a grand time following any scent that seems interesting to them - and that would be MOST scents. Unsupervised, a beagle will soon find themselves lost and wondering how they got that way. This isn`t a dog that will be able to ever reliably be trained to `stay in the yard`.
